Chapter Fifty-Nine: The Rise of Cannon Fodder 1
Finally leaving this plain.
When Soren walked out of this desolate plain, what appeared before him was a massive chasm, from which he could see scorching lava below, and in the distance, a flowing River of Underworld. The Ten Thousand Abyss Plains is the uppermost part of the countless layers of the Bottomless Abyss. It is a land devoid of life, barren of grass, and thick with dust, scorched under the hellish deep-red sun. Interspersed among the dusty wasteland are three types of terrain: the massive chasm on the surface, the colossal Iron Fortress, and the River of Underworld.
The only master here is the Wind Demon King—Pazuzu. As the oldest Obsidian Demon, it chose to remain neutral in the battle between the Tanar’ri Demon and the Obsidian Demon. This powerful Demon Lord rarely concerns itself with other matters; its greatest passion is luring others into corruption, especially a righteous Paladin. For this, it would even assist the Paladin to the fullest when called.
The Wind Demon King seldom appears before ordinary demons and seems to rarely participate in the Abyssal Blood War; it is merely the invisible supreme ruler of this land.
The evolution of power is nearing its limit.
Soren has killed many Coward Demons along the way, and now his attributes have changed to:
“Name: Soren.
Race: Demon.
Form: Coward Demon [Level 1]
Attributes: Strength 14, Agility 12, Constitution 16, Intelligence 10, Perception 12, Charisma 12.

Specialty: Multi-attack.
Spell-like Abilities: Fear (once per day), Stinking Cloud (once per day), Telepathy.”
………………
The growth of demon power is very interesting.
It seems that through killing, their abilities can be comprehensively enhanced. Soren is already close to the strongest form of the Coward Demon; if he wishes to further enhance his strength, there are only two ways.
The first is to advance to become a professionist.
Even demons can advance to be professionists, learning many professional abilities, but this requires a significant amount of time. It is more difficult for a demon to become a professionist than for other creatures.
The second is to advance to other forms.
Soren must kill some powerful enemies to accumulate more Demon bloodline power, ultimately achieving a true mutation.
Advance to become a Succubus, Frenzied Combat Demon, or other mid-level demon forms!
If he does not wish to transform into humanoid demons, Soren can also use the power of the Demon bloodline to mutate into a Demon Spider and other forms. He can even become a Bat Demon; the genetics of demons seem to contain countless possibilities. Changing form during advancement is not difficult. Soren needs a bit of the Demon bloodline’s power as a trigger, but the Coward Demon’s innate weakness is too obvious; even though he is close to reaching the breaking point, Soren still only has 25 hit points.
In the distance, a Steel Fortress can be seen.
The chasm has only a narrow passage, and Soren is well aware of what fate awaits him upon leaving this desolate plain.
A cannon fodder.
For any Coward Demon that emerges from the Ten Thousand Abyss Plains, the initial fate is always that of cannon fodder.
The scorching lava flows along the chasm. Just as Soren approached the vicinity of the Iron Fortress, a Succubus appeared before him.
“You have been summoned!”
The Succubus raised a long whip with metallic barbs and struck it against the ground in front of Soren, and amidst the dust raised, said in a proud voice: “Wretched Coward Demon! You are fortunate to be summoned by the Seventh Legion of the Succubus Queen!”
“Fight hard.”
“If you can survive, you will be rewarded!”
There was no inquiry about Soren’s opinion at all. Mid-level demons have absolute dominion over low-level demons; even if Soren expresses a hint of unwillingness, the other party would kill him on the spot.
The Seventh Legion of the Succubus Queen is summoning cannon fodder for a low-level Coward Demon. The Succubus in front of him is even too lazy to use her charm; such cannon fodder does not hold any value for her to enchant. She still needs to recruit more powerful demon cannon fodder. As one of the most powerful Demon Lords of the Bottomless Abyss, the Succubus Queen is naturally also a main force in the Abyssal Blood War, which has never truly ceased; every day new demons are summoned.
However, the Succubus Queen is very clever. She cultivates the cannon fodder that survives the brutal blood war into elites and sends them to her base.
The blood war is a meat grinder!
No matter how powerful a demon is, there is always the possibility of falling. The Succubus Queen has always been a major participant in the blood war, but her power has remained undiminished; on the contrary, it is growing bit by bit.
A Frenzied Combat Demon appears.
Its chaotic, crazy gaze swept over Soren, seemingly very displeased with this little guy, having the feeling of wanting to crush him underfoot.
But it could not do that yet.
Because this is its cannon fodder, a new battle is about to begin. However, the opponent is not the devils of the Hell of Bartok, but the army of the King of Werewolves—Yenogu, from the 422nd layer of the Bottomless Abyss. The demon legions are always in internal strife; the struggles between many Demon Lords have never ceased, naturally leading to constant friction between their demon legions. Deep in the Bottomless Abyss, the armies of the Succubus Queen and the King of Werewolves are engaged in battle, affecting the Ten Thousand Abyss Plains, and the Succubus commanding here has decided to create some trouble for the other side.
Even if the next blood war with the devils is about to erupt, they still decide to first strike against their old opponents!
Very crazy?
Indeed! This is the Bottomless Abyss!
Soren entered the military camp with a group of Coward Demons; before him stood a massive Iron Fortress, filled with numerous war machines.
Although demons rely on overwhelming numbers to win, the Succubus Queen places greater importance on weaponry.
The military camp is chaotic.
Soren even saw a Frenzied Combat Demon engaged in a duel with another Frenzied Combat Demon; that was a real fight, with the loser likely to die at the hands of the other.
No one stopped them; on the contrary, there were even Succubus officers watching with great interest nearby!
Most of the officers here are Succubi, and females make up the largest proportion, while male Succubi are quite rare.
Because Succubi are evolved from the Tanar’ri Demons, the nature of their souls easily influences the forms of demons; perhaps it is the “femboy” type that has a greater chance of becoming male Succubi.
Just like Soren, it is almost impossible for him to advance to the form of a Succubus!
A group of Coward Demons were driven into the military camp; what they saw was all chaos, which did not seem like an army, but rather a mob.
Apart from being numerous, they have no advantages whatsoever!
In the evening.
Before the battle began, the Coward Demons were assigned some food, and a large group of Coward Demons scrambled chaotically for it, with even some demons fighting until they bled.
Facing such a situation!
Soren unhesitatingly raised his hand and directly unleashed a spell.
—“Fear!”
A very low-level spell-like ability, but useful against these Coward Demons, as a large group of cowards fled in all directions in fright.
The commotion attracted the attention of the Succubus officer.
She looked at Soren unexpectedly, then casually pulled out a dagger and threw it in front of Soren, nodding, “Good!”
“From now on, you are their boss!”
Soren got promoted.
From the lowest-level cannon fodder to the lowest-level cannon fodder chief!
Very crazy?
Indeed! The appointment of demons is this simple!
This is the Bottomless Abyss, the most chaotic and evil place; the order of the mortal realm is often a joke here, and the preferences of demons are hard to reason with.
Soren was summoned, and on the first day, he got promoted.
But.
None of this is important; what matters is whether he can survive tomorrow’s battle against the demon legion controlled by the King of Werewolves—Yenogu. Only then can he barely enter the ranks of mid-level cannon fodder.
Apart from a few lucky ones, the vast majority of demons must start their careers as cannon fodder!
