Chapter Eighty-Four: Permission Activated! Second Update
bl**d, raging fire, d*ath.
As the last demon fell, many survivors in the village half-kneeled on the ground, exhausted. Soren could hear suppressed cries; a somewhat youthful-looking boy knelt before a mangled corpse, emitting waves of low, oppressive wailing. This was his relative, presumably his brother. The two bore a faint resemblance. Just moments ago, in an attempt to stop a demon’s ambush, his brother had taken a fatal blow for him, ultimately being torn apart under the assault of a group of coward demons.
The militia captain dashed madly towards the houses engulfed in flames, and after a long time, he emerged holding a cold girl’s corpse.
She was a charming young girl.
With a cute round face, faint freckles, and a bl**d-stained chest, her left arm bore signs of having been chewed on. bl**d dripped from her icy arm. The militia captain’s face was filled with endless grief as he walked forward, seeming dazed; a spark ignited his clothes, but he seemed utterly oblivious, his eyes filled with despair and sorrow.
Someone rushed over immediately to help extinguish the flames, but the middle-aged man stood frozen in place, cradling his daughter’s corpse.
After a long while.
He let out a terrifying roar, one that was difficult to describe with words, akin to that of a beast: “No!!!”
A mournful crying ensued.
The middle-aged man knelt beside the girl’s body, emitting a suppressed, beastly sob, pounding his hands on the ground until bl**d flowed freely, pale fingers were visible, as if this was the only way to ease the crying in his heart.
A wizard, his face burned beyond recognition, stood in place, silently watching everything, tearing at his half-burned hair, his voice hoarse: “I’m sorry!… I’m sorry!… It’s all my fault!…”
Everything in front of Soren felt so real.
The sounds of painful crying echoed in Soren’s ears, and the once peaceful village gradually turned to ruins. Bodies were being discovered by the survivors.
Clang!
The middle-aged man slowly stood up, drew his sword, and cut open the palm of his hand; bl**d slid down the blade. He gripped the hilt tightly and knelt on one knee before the girl’s cold body, vowing revenge in a low voice directed at the sky.
It was a language Soren could not understand.
It seemed to be the language of the Aydin people, one of the languages spoken during the Arcane Empire.
He swore to take revenge on the demons!
Though he could not comprehend the words, Soren understood the meaning; he vowed to slay demons for the rest of his life, never to marry or have children until the moment of his d*ath. He prayed to the God of War, seeking a response from the deity.
The burned wizard approached Soren. Slowly, he handed him a dark golden card.
“This might belong to you.”
The middle-aged wizard’s expression was grim as he gazed upon the village that had turned to ruins amidst the fire, his face filled with endless guilt.
Everything in front of him felt so real!
Though the challenge had been completed, Soren felt little joy within himself; he silently observed everything before him. This scene evoked memories of the Saint’s Cataclysm.
Demons descended upon the world.
The demons of the Bottomless Abyss had finally temporarily ceased their bl**d war, bringing slaughter and destruction to other realms. Countless villages like this one were annihilated, and cities with tens of thousands of inhabitants were wiped clean.
Corpses lay strewn everywhere. bl**d flowed like a river!
In that moment, he suddenly thought that perhaps the bl**d war should never end. The demons and devils should fight on endlessly.
A dark golden card.
Soren felt its heavy texture, silently watching the village before him; just one or two mid-tier Frenzied Combat Demons, which may not have lasted minutes in the bl**d war, had obliterated such a peaceful village. At that moment, Soren could not even imagine the terrible disaster that would occur if the bl**d war was halted, and the massive Demon Legion began assaulting other worlds!
Everything before him gradually faded.
As if everything were an illusion, a dream, Soren heard a deep whisper:
“A disaster destroyed the home you lived in for so long.”
“An evil wizard summoned demons from the Bottomless Abyss, murdering your relatives, your friends, and destroying everything familiar to you.”
“Carrying hatred and pain.”
“You left your homeland, embarking on a journey to an unknown faraway land.”
“This night changed your fate!…”
“You became a wandering adventurer, bidding farewell to your previously calm life; you braved the wind and rain, drifting far and wide. You no longer fear pain or d*ath, but you also do not know where your future lies, whether you will d*e in some unknown corner, leaving behind a pile of white bones scavenged by beasts…”
“But this day, you also understand that only powerful strength can protect what you value!…”
………………
“Challenge completed!”
“Chess simulation ended!… Task statistics being compiled!… Your faction has transformed to [Lawful Neutral]!… Activating professionist template!… Obtained chess item [Arcane Card]!…”
“Task evaluation: A+!…”
“Gained partial permissions of the first layer of the chess dimension; current activated permission areas include the Golem Factory, the first layer portal of the Wizard Tower, the first layer of the library, the Arcane Wish Platform, etc.!…”
………………
With a faint glow of spell light.
Soren slowly opened his eyes; Tower Spirit 13 stood expressionless in place, watching Soren and slowly saying: “Congratulations on completing the first phase of the chess challenge.”
“Your current permission level is F grade.”
“To the left is the portal to the first layer of the Wizard Tower, but I advise you against going there. The commander of the Wizard Tower is Tower Spirit 1, and without the core permissions of the Wizard Tower, Tower Spirits 1 to 7 will regard you as an enemy.”
“To the right is the Golem Factory.”
“This is the Golem Factory of the first layer of the chess dimension, capable of making Clay Golems and Rock Golems. In the library beside it, there are books left by the owner, as well as some golem crafting manuals.”
“At the innermost part is the Arcane Wish Platform.”
“Utilizing the powers of the chess dimension, you can sacrifice a portion of your soul power to cast a legendary level Wish Spell. You have only one usage permission; if you need it activated, you can summon me.”
“Congratulations on completing the challenge!”
“I will wait for your arrival in the second layer of the chess dimension.”
A spell light.
Tower Spirit 13 waved his hand, forming a terrain map before Soren. The space of the first layer of the chess dimension was vast, but there were not many constructed buildings, and some areas seemed off-limits to him.
Since he had gained activity permissions, Soren naturally faced fewer restrictions.
The power of the deity was activated!
In an instant, Soren’s perception grasped everything nearby: a massive Golem Factory filled with many alchemical machines he could not comprehend, with roughly a dozen inactive Clay Golems and Stone Golems.
The library had a layer of spell restrictions.
But for Soren, it was hardly a problem; his figure instantly vanished from sight, then reappeared inside the library.
“Introduction to Golem Crafting Techniques,” “Advanced Golem Crafting Techniques,” “Steel Golem Modification,” “Diamond Golem Crafting Techniques,” “Core of the Supreme Golem,” “Basics of Alchemical Constructs”…
Before Soren were thousands of books.
Almost every one was inscribed with arcane markings, and flipping through them revealed annotations from others; it seemed this place had been opened to apprentice archmages, and some names were still legible.
The library mainly contained books on alchemical constructs, followed by some common and uncommon spellbooks.
Including Mayoufu Acid Arrow, Mayoufu Meteor, Improved Fire Breath, Malicious Transformation, among others, but the most eye-catching books were those placed on the top.
—— “Advanced Battle Mage! Bigby’s Protective Skills!”
—— “Advanced Battle Mage! Bigby’s Forceful Strike Applications!”
—— “Advanced Battle Mage! Isaac’s Missile Storm Casting Techniques!”
—— “Advanced Alchemical Constructs! Soul Infusion of Magical Constructs!”
—— “Advanced Battle Mage! The Art of Binding Shadows with Tentacles!”
