Chapter 23: Slaying the Giant Dragon!
A chilling, piercing scream echoed above the Gurenba Arena.
Although Soren swooped down from the sky to provide aid, the Magma Dragon chose to ignore Soren’s attack and directly wounded, even killed, the Eye Demon in front of it. With its intelligence, it understood that it had to defeat these troublesome little pests one by one. The Eye Demon was undoubtedly the easiest prey; in terms of size and speed, it could not escape the reach of the Magma Dragon’s attack.
The Magma Dragon’s massive jaws bit into the Eye Demon’s body, tearing a chunk of flesh away with its terrifying biting power.
As is well-known, dragon species possess astonishing biting force. A Tyrannosaurus rex could even crush a car with its bite, and as one of the most powerful ground-dwelling dragons, the Magma Dragon likely had the strength to penetrate tank armor. It clamped down on the side of the Eye Demon, biting off one of its eye stalks. As a special life form, the eye stalk was essential to the Eye Demon’s physiology and one of its greatest weaknesses; losing it inflicted pain akin to a human losing a reproductive organ.
One can imagine how chilling that scream was!
With one eye stalk and a portion of its body bitten off, the Eye Demon almost instantly entered a near-d*ath state. However, just as the Magma Dragon was ready to finish off the Eye Demon with another bite, it suddenly let out a screech of its own.
Soren, from behind it, thrust his sword directly into the area close to the dragon’s reproductive organs!
A second incredibly piercing scream erupted.
Due to the angle of his attack, Soren was unable to strike a vitally lethal spot. Even with the power of his Flame Demon transformation amplifying his +1 longsword, he could not pierce the Magma Dragon’s muscle layers to injure its internals, so he targeted the rear half of the dragon’s body—a crucial area for any living flesh creature.
This was a life-and-d*ath struggle!
There were no morals. There were no rules.
From an absolutely rational standpoint, the reproductive organs at the rear of the body were the only part capable of severely injuring the opponent and could temporarily affect its movements, even forcing it into a frenzied state due to pain.
Soren was a Wanderer.
When confronted with opponents too powerful to defeat, he had no qualms about employing any tactic necessary to destroy them.
The Magma Dragon’s eyes were nearly bloodshot from rage!
Regardless of its gender, Soren’s sword penetrated deeply, nearly embedding half its length. This inflicted immense psychological pain on any creature, male or female.
The Eye Demon seemed to gain a moment’s respite!
It shifted its massive, injured body to move sideways, just as Soren landed in front of it, his massive Demon Wings fluttering slightly, seemingly attempting to draw the Magma Dragon’s attention to protect the beleaguered Eye Demon behind him.
The Eye Demon displayed a flicker of gratitude.
In its world view, there were few demons who would do such a thing, but the next moment, its expression froze.
Soren suddenly turned around.
In a complete 360-degree spin, he swung his flaming sword towards the near-d*ath Eye Demon behind him, delivering an utterly merciless blow, accompanied by immense force!
A fatal strike.
The sword cut right through the Eye Demon’s gigantic eye, slicing it almost cleanly in half from head to lower body.
Its expression lingered in shock and disbelief!
The Eye Demon could not comprehend why the Flame Demon had saved it from the Magma Dragon’s gaping maw, only to turn around and slay it.
Perhaps this was the chaotic nature of demons!
Soren’s actions created an uproar in the entire Gurenba Arena. Many demons were thrilled by such a sudden turn of events.
The Goblin Demon Sorcerer looked somewhat astonished, muttering, “What a chaotic demon.”
“If you wanted it dead, why save it just now? And if you’ve saved it, why come back to k*ll it?”
“Indeed, these demons are all crazy!”
Soren saved the Eye Demon, then turned around to k*ll it.
Some were bewildered by this, believing it to be the nature of demons, while others thought this behavior was quite normal; the demon in front of them felt more like a devil.
The Magma Dragon also seemed to struggle to understand Soren’s behavior, but it did not affect its determination to k*ll this enemy.
Its gaping maw lunged forward.
Soren rolled to avoid it. Then he soared into the air, his Demon Wings helping him return to a higher altitude.
The Magma Dragon took a deep breath!
As the dragon breath drew near, a gleam suddenly burst in Soren’s pupils; he realized the opponent had made a fatal mistake!
That was, he was not afraid of the Magma Dragon’s flame breath at all.
A torrent of fiery dragon breath spewed from the Magma Dragon’s gaping mouth, a terrifying heat capable of melting steel; yet, for Soren, it posed no deathly threat.
The whistling wind echoed!
Soren charged directly toward the Magma Dragon’s dreadful breath. The enemy had made a critical, common mistake: dragons were typically overconfident in the power of their breath, believing Soren would dodge. Little did they know, Soren was charging right into it, thrusting his sword into its open maw!
The outcome of the battle could reverse in an instant!
The overwhelming dragon breath enveloped Soren’s figure; even if he was immune to fire damage, the breath still affected him significantly. Panic surfaced in the Magma Dragon’s expression; it seemed to realize its instinctual use of dragon breath had wrought a deadly turn against itself.
But it was too late!
Soren charged through the dragon breath and thrust his sword into the Magma Dragon’s gaping mouth.
A fatal strike.
The blade pierced through its unprotected upper jaw and into its brain, accompanied by a thunderous roar and the dust rising from the heavy weight crashing to the ground. The mighty Magma Dragon had been slain by him just like that.
This fatal opportunity was created by the enemy themselves for Soren!
A strong person.
A true strong person knows how to exploit even the slightest flaw to defeat an opponent; in terms of battle experience alone, the Magma Dragon likely hadn’t encountered as many foes in its life as Soren had in a year.
After all, dragons often relied on their overwhelming strength to crush their opponents!
The Gurenba Arena fell into a deathly silence, all the demons displaying shocked expressions, then erupting into excited murmurs. The dramatic turn of events thrilled many spectators.
In that moment!
Soren had taken down a powerful enemy by exploiting a flaw, but he now faced a challenging final decision.
That was whether to absorb the power of the Magma Dragon or to use the ‘Soul Extraction Technique’ acquired from the [Flame Demon Transformation] to extract the soul of a powerful legendary-level giant dragon.
The latter was the legendary ‘Dragon Soul,’ which adventurers preferred to refer to as ‘Dragon Crystal.’
