**Chapter 113: Golem Hall**
“Clean up the battlefield!”
Soren glanced at the two witches and said in a deep voice: “Take everything you need. I will scout the third level of the Wizard Tower. If anything unexpected happens, I will sound the alarm.”
Gloria nodded and softly said, “I understand.”
After saying that, Soren’s figure slipped into the darkness as he made his way up the stairs to the third level of the Wizard Tower. From the outside structure, it was impossible to determine how many levels the Wizard Tower had, as the height of the exterior was not directly related to the size of the space inside. If this Wizard Tower was built as the core of a Floating City, then it likely had far more levels than other Wizard Towers, as it required a significant amount of space for preparation of other functions.
A relatively complex magical trap.
At the turn of the stairway, but Soren wisely chose not to disarm it and instead quietly circumvented it to enter the third level of the Wizard Tower.
He sensed that something was on guard.
Upon entering the third level of the Wizard Tower, a look of surprise immediately appeared in Soren’s eyes!
Before him stood a number of golem puppets, the quantity slightly intimidating—around three hundred in total. The first five rows consisted of more than a hundred clay golems, followed by seventy or eighty stone golems, then twenty or thirty iron golems, and finally five or six diamond golems. At the very back of the hall were two dormant magical power devices, one silver and the other dark gold. In addition to these, there was a strange metallic humanoid creature in the center of the third level, close to the ceiling.
It should be a Tower Spirit.
Different from other Tower Spirits, this one was positioned between humanoid and semi-humanoid. Energy conduits connected its body to the ceiling, with faint energy glimmers emerging. This Tower Spirit appeared to be in a state of slumber and was equipped with weapons. It was completely unlike other Tower Spirits Soren had encountered, suggesting that this might be a combat-type Tower Spirit rather than one designed for managing the Wizard Tower.
Heavy footsteps echoed.
The golem puppets on the third level were mostly in a dormant state, but there were still active guards on this level.
One diamond golem, two iron golems, and three stone golems.
A simple patrol squad symbol. They continuously circled around the third level, periodically stopping near the central Tower Spirit before continuing their vigilant patrol.
“This must be the Golem Hall!”
The Chess Half-Plane has golem manufacturing factories, so logically there should be more than a few of them in storage here. It seems that the vast majority of golem puppets have already been stored here. Any Wizard Tower requires a significant amount of labor and guards to operate, and all these puppet golems not being activated must be to conserve energy within the Wizard Tower. In Gloria’s former tower, the iron golems were also mostly in a dormant state.
“I wonder if it’s possible to retrieve these dormant golem puppets without causing damage?”
Soren pondered a bold idea.
This level surely had dangerous triggering devices. If he accidentally disturbed something, the outcomes would likely be one of two scenarios: either all the golem puppets, including the central Tower Spirit, would awaken, or only the Tower Spirit or some of the golem puppets would awaken. Soren was certain that the central Tower Spirit would awaken upon his arrival because the Wizard Tower continuously maintained its energy operation, and the patrol squad stopping before it should also act as a trigger mechanism.
“Why does this thing feel incredibly dangerous?”
Soren observed the structure of the Tower Spirit from a distance, and it didn’t quite seem humanoid. Instead, it resembled a humanoid mech.
In other words, it was a more advanced version of a magical power device.
Building on its original form, it has been directly upgraded to the level of a Tower Spirit. It appeared quite challenging to deal with.
“This thing’s biological level won’t exceed level 30, right?”
Soren tried to gauge the combat mode from the entity, but found no clues; he could only conclude that it wasn’t a spell-type Tower Spirit but likely possessed impressive close-combat strength.
This seemed difficult to handle.
Before leaving the third level of the Wizard Tower, Soren cautiously circled around, utilizing his photographic memory to remember the terrain and mentally noting the energy conduits on the third level. If they were to seize control of the third level of the Wizard Tower, these energy conduits must be cut off immediately; otherwise, if the golem legion awakened, he, as a deity, could only flee with others.
The entrance to the fourth level was sealed.
A heavy stone door blocked the entry from the third to the fourth level, seemingly requiring activation mechanisms to unlock it.
After confirming there were no oversights, Soren quickly returned to the second level of the Wizard Tower, where the three sorceresses had finished cleaning up the battlefield, taking everything they could, even collecting parts of the magical power devices to study.
“What’s the situation up there?”
Gloria gently tossed her long hair and asked, and the Fallen Witch appeared quite concerned as well.
Soren briefly explained the situation, and the expressions of the two witches immediately grew serious as they murmured, “There are so many golem puppets?”
“That’s not going to be easy.”
Over a thousand years had passed, and Soren could hardly imagine how powerful the defense system of the Wizard Tower had been at its peak.
This place was practically a puppet factory!
………………
The group quickly exited the Wizard Tower. Soren was uncertain about what would happen after they left. Perhaps the Tower Spirit managing the tower would reclaim the first and second levels and reconfigure the defenses, or perhaps nothing would occur, since the energy supply of the tower could no longer keep up with the consumption.
The most important task at hand was for Gloria and the Fallen Witch to refresh their memory of the spells.
The wizard’s memory spells were targeted, and knowing the situation of the third level of the Wizard Tower, the two legendary witches naturally needed to memorize spells that would be effective against diamond golems and high-level magical power devices. However, everyone was fully aware that the battle on the third level would likely be even more difficult than the previous ones, as the primary core defenses of the lower levels of the tower were situated in the Golem Hall. These puppet golems were the first line of core defense for the Wizard Tower.
And now Soren was not thinking about how to defeat them, but rather how to retrieve the dormant puppet golems with as little damage as possible. (To be continued ~^~)
