Chapter Seventy-Six: The Pawn Becomes the Player!
Soren quickly settled on the candidates for the execution.
However, after watching for a while, Gloria gently sat on Soren’s lap, twisting her soft body to find a comfortable position. She then pointed at the list above and said slowly, “Lulu can also be sent out for training.”
“This little girl’s potential is incredibly remarkable!”
Lulu?
Soren was slightly surprised by her words, and his expression seemed to carry some doubt. He wasn’t unaware of Lulu’s talent; as one of the few beastkin cat girls in the Material Plane, her aptitude was indeed astonishing. But how long had Lulu been training now? Could she really be dispatched to such a high-difficulty ancient ruin for training?
“No problem.”
Gloria, after all, understood Lulu’s situation better than Soren. She was also one of the people responsible for coordinating and teaching Lulu. She continued, “When it really comes to action, Lulu won’t be any worse than Chouhou, and it seems this little girl has met some esteemed person!”
Oh?
Gloria’s words made Soren hesitate for a moment, but he was also a decisive person, and immediately made a decision: “Alright.”
“Then let Lulu go out for training as well.”
Gloria smiled upon hearing this, lightly caressing Soren’s cheek, and then said, “The preliminary testing of the Ghost Ship, The Requiem, has been completed. It only needs to undergo practical combat testing now.”
“Since they are heading to a dangerous ancient ruin this time, why not send the Ghost Ship, The Requiem, along for a practical combat test!”
The Ghost Ship, The Requiem.
This was a tremendous weapon for Modo and also one of Soren’s signatures as the Pirate King.
The original Ghost Ship, The Requiem, already had immense combat power, and now, after the joint modifications by Gloria and the Fallen Witch, its combat strength had increased significantly. The current Requiem could soar into the sky and dive into the sea, boasting overwhelming firepower, and it was itself a legendary-level construct undead. Such a thing couldn’t realistically undergo practical combat testing via conventional methods. Furthermore, Modo currently had no wars requiring the use of a weapon like The Requiem.
So, when Gloria suggested a practical combat test, Soren immediately became interested.
He reached out and lifted Gloria up, then slid his right hand under her skirt, exploring as he went, and said slowly, “Has the floating ring been adjusted for testing yet?”
“Can we conduct practical combat tests now?”
Gloria’s breathing became hurried. A flush appeared on her beautiful face as she softly said, “The testing of the floating ring has been completed.”
“When we established the Floating Tower, we finalized the floating ring’s application and then immediately used it on The Requiem.”
“Currently, the flight state is very stable.”
“The small energy shield has also been set up, but as The Requiem itself is a legendary construct undead, it can directly use the power of Earthbound Spirits to repair its hull, which is why we didn’t specially set up a large energy shield.”
Soren nodded upon hearing this. However, his hand had moved to Gloria’s ample chest.
He was very clear about the characteristics of The Requiem; after all, this legendary ghost ship was something he had gradually upgraded himself. While The Requiem appeared somewhat worn, it was actually very sturdy. After being upgraded to a legendary construct undead, its durability was higher than that of a steel warship, and it could repair itself very quickly. Such a legendary construct undead only required a small energy shield, and it wasn’t even necessary for the ghostly sails; they could even dispense with the small energy shield altogether.
“What about firepower?”
Soren pinched the woman in his arms and said in a deep voice, “Has the simplified arcane superconductor pulse cannon been completed?”
Gloria hesitated for a moment and replied slowly, “It’s not fully completed yet. However, we utilized the alchemy technology of the Northern Witch Council to install a small arcane cannon on The Requiem, which can probably fire about three times; we don’t yet know the specific effects.”
“This time’s practical combat test is also to evaluate The Requiem’s offensive capabilities.”
The original Requiem was equipped with rotary heavy cannons and the Requiem cannon, and the firepower was only on par with the level of the post-Age of Sail. Compared to the alchemy technology of the Arcane Empire, it was nothing significant. Gloria and the Fallen Witch modified it, replacing some of the original Requiem cannons and adding a simplified arcane cannon. It wasn’t that they couldn’t add more; it was simply because The Requiem didn’t have enough energy, and adding more would make it merely a decoration.
“Alright then.”
Soren considered for a moment and said seriously, “Let The Requiem set sail together, and let’s test its practical combat capabilities.”
The Requiem was a key element in Soren’s future plans.
The strength of Modo was still primarily concentrated in the overseas regions, and the main battleground in the future would undoubtedly be on the continent. The forces that Modo could project onto land were few, and it was clear that mobilizing the army was not suitable; the cost of mobilization was just too high. Soren’s fleet could only roam the sea, and there wouldn’t be many places where it could be used in the future. Currently, the only force capable of initiating an expedition from Modo was the Dragon Knights Order, which was simply insufficient in number and too painful to lose.
Then there was the Floating Tower, but the Floating Tower was Modo’s greatest weapon and also needed to control the entire maze of Modo.
Calculating and calculating.
Currently, the only thing capable of carrying out an expedition and possessing enough lethality was the Ghost Ship, The Requiem.
With The Requiem’s firepower, paired with Modo’s Golem Legion teleportation tactics, it should play a decisive role in several very important battles in the future.
Soren’s goal of ensuring his own safety was basically nearing completion.
He indeed enjoyed remaining aloof but could not completely ignore the suffering of the beings in the Material Plane, which were riddled with wounds. As a lofty deity, he had to do something, to some extent. It was the responsibility of a deity to maintain the order of laws, and one couldn’t just sit idly by while they fought amongst themselves, ultimately smashing the Material Plane, the chessboard for the deities’ competition!
This is the differing perspectives based on one’s position.
Previously, Soren had not hesitated to flip the chessboard for his own protection more than once.
But now, as a deity of Medium Divine Power, he was one of the few eligible to play chess in the Material Plane, so it was his responsibility to ensure that the game continued.
Looking at the current structure of Modo, one could tell that Soren’s ambitions were not small!
Modo was a chessboard, and the Material Plane was an even larger game. On the chessboard of Modo, Soren already had absolute power, but on the larger game of the Material Plane, he needed to place more usable pieces.
As a lofty deity!
Soren could no longer engage in direct combat as he did in the past; he needed to learn to be a player in the competition of the Material Plane, just like other deities.
