Chapter Seventeen: Soren’s Destiny!
Soren soon met Ye Ge.
This legendary ancient God of Death looked quite ordinary, like a typical scholar of necromancy, currently recording something on a parchment with a quill on the boat of the River of Underworld. Ye Ge’s church had always been documenting death, and one could even say it was waiting for the moment all things would end. Within Ye Ge’s church, there is a belief that even planes and the universe have a moment of death, and at one point, some even thought that Ye Ge’s true mission was to witness and record the death of the entire multiverse.
The Saint’s Cataclysm seemed to have little effect on Ye Ge.
Because His divine profession had basically all been relinquished, the King of the Dead—Klanvor—should have already fallen to the Material Plane, but Ye Ge seemed to be staying in the Underworld without any influence. However, it appeared that He currently could not enter His Divine Kingdom, and there wasn’t much within His Divine Kingdom; at His level, He probably didn’t need one anymore.
Great Divinity!
The existence closest to Great Divine Power in the entire multiverse, though having given up the God of Death profession, He remained the most powerful ancient god in terms of divinity.
If one considers deities to be a product of laws.
Then at Ye Ge’s level, it was approaching the Great Dao!
He was the only god in the long history of the multiverse who had relinquished His powers to others out of boredom with His divine profession. Despite the many years of divine conflict and cataclysms, and despite being merely of “Weak Divine Power,” He was still living quite well, and no other deity dared to bother Him for no reason.
He had become an observer, only occasionally assisting the new God of Death in managing affairs.
One point must be mentioned.
Soren had always believed that the expansion of the River of Underworld was closely related to the God of Death—Ye Ge, because in the most ancient times, the River of Underworld was just a small tributary, and now it ran through the entire multiverse.
Even on Mount Heaven, there were branches of the River of Underworld.
It is worth mentioning that the God of Death—Ye Ge had a good relationship with the ancient Sun God—Amanata. After the fall of the ancient Sun God, the reincarnated being was Lushanda, who is now the—Lord of Radiance!
The expansion of the River of Underworld is not recorded in history.
However, since many planes were born, the River of Underworld has flowed from the highest point of Mount Heaven down to the deepest depths of the Bottomless Abyss.
If it is said that there is no shadow of the God of Death—Ye Ge behind this, Soren absolutely would not believe it.
Additionally, there used to be a “Wall of Non-believers,” but now, the alternation of life and death in the entire multiverse was maintained by the River of Underworld, and scarcely any souls were sealed within the Wall of Non-believers; the vast majority of souls were transported by the River of Underworld to the Sea of Origin, ultimately transitioning back from death to life. The development of death was thus transformed, and all of it had Ye Ge’s shadow behind it.
“Young deity.”
Ye Ge’s face was withered, looking like a mummy; as the oldest deity, He seemed to no longer care about His appearance. This ancient God of Death slowly put down the quill, raised His head to look at Soren, and said slowly: “You seem to have many questions!”
“Yes,” Soren nodded.
After some thought, he directly asked, “Did you summon me here?”
Ye Ge glanced at him and calmly replied: “I suppose so.”
Soren frowned slightly and said, “I do not know what Your Excellency called me to the Underworld for?”
Straight to the point.
With an observer like Ye Ge, Soren did not need to beat around the bush; after all, even this time’s Saint’s Cataclysm, Ye Ge still had a somewhat detached air, because even this time’s Saint’s Cataclysm could not entirely affect Him. If gods are seen as celestial beings, then the Saint’s Cataclysm is a calamity of heaven and earth; Ye Ge had long since transcended beyond calamities, and such an existence personally meeting Soren must have a reason. Such an existence must have its own mission, just as Father Oak could unhesitatingly sacrifice himself for enlightenment, the God of Death—Ye Ge must also have His ultimate purpose, which is likely to transcend all current deities.
“A small matter.”
Ye Ge’s tone showed no change as he slowly said: “All things have an end. And those who welcome the end but refuse to return to death always make me feel a bit troubled.”
“I have a small trouble that I need you to help me resolve.”
Trouble?
After hearing Ye Ge’s words, Soren thought for a moment and said: “Those who welcome the end but refuse to return to death! Are you referring to the Demon God of Fear?”
The Demon God of Fear is dead.
But he has not completely died, his power stems from Ye Ge, and his half-dead state might indeed trouble Ye Ge.
Ye Ge slowly nodded.
Then, He looked at Soren and said: “Those outside of fate are full of endless variables! Transcending death may allow one to transcend fate!”
“The last Saint’s Cataclysm birthed a batch of new gods.”
“And this time’s Saint’s Cataclysm explosion means that the laws of the multiverse will once again change.”
“Some gods should disappear with the laws, but because of you, some changes have occurred outside of fate. What I need to do now is to correct that part belonging to death.”
“The Demon God of Fear should fall.”
“He has transformed death into pure destruction and fear, which has deviated from the true meaning of death.”
“I hope you can eliminate him. If possible, it would be best if you could take over part of the God of Death profession. Klanvor, though a competent God of Death, is still too benevolent.”
“Eternal Sleep merely maintains the rules of death but cannot allow death to progress further.”
The Lord of Eternal Sleep—Klanvor.
After Klanvor assumed the God of Death profession, he was dedicated to enabling undead beings to attain eternal rest; unlike other Gods of Death, he was not cruel. After the last Saint’s Cataclysm, Klanvor took on the God of Death profession and spent most of his time with Ye Ge in the crystal tower of the Underworld, learning from the latter about the responsibilities and needs of the post of King of the Dead. Although the cold and hard practical viewpoints of the Forgotten One (another name for Ye Ge) and his mercilessness troubled Klanvor, he still respected Ye Ge greatly—believing in this ancient deity would not be an exaggeration.
Although the two got along quite well, Klanvor was a kind warrior in life.
His concepts conflicted with Ye Ge’s in many ways; the God of Death—Ye Ge, strictly speaking, should be an unfeeling neutral party, believing that death treats all things equally without distinguishing between good and evil. Klanvor, on the other hand, leaned toward benevolence, and the church had done much over the years to pacify the undead; he even expanded into a domain of 【Eternal Sleep】.
“Is that all?”
Soren frowned, looking at Ye Ge and slowly said: “The Demon God of Fear is my enemy that I must eliminate. Even without your command, I would find a way to completely kill him.”
The Demon God of Fear must die.
If he does not die, Vivian cannot be truly safe!
Ye Ge was not surprised by Soren’s words, as He had long been aware of this new god; He had already noticed Soren when he became a god. He said lightly: “If that is the case.”
“There is another matter that might trouble you. But this will also be an inescapable fate for you.”
