Chapter 25: Abyssal Demons
The demons are mostly immune to toxin damage.
So they often use some unscrupulous schemes to gain more chips for themselves, as ordinary demon lords are still somewhat weaker compared to the lofty gods. Of course, the Lord of Hell—Asmothiels—is an exception, but other demon lords, if they were to come to the Material Plane, would probably possess strength comparable to that of a medium divine power saint. Simply put, if any demon lord dared to come to the Material Plane in their true form, Soren would have the ability to confront them directly.
With Soren’s guidance, the church’s wanderers immediately scattered to investigate.
Soren also nodded slightly towards the high priest beside him, signaling her to join him in checking the situation. Those capable of casting magic circles to pollute the land are generally high-level devils, meaning they are demon elites with legendary strength, at least on par with elite bone demons, and it’s even possible that higher-ranking demons might appear.
Dealing with such enemies still requires the high priest’s oversight!
The wanderers quickly made some discoveries.
They found several dead animals, all of which had died from poisoning, and their bodies were already beginning to decay.
“Over here!”
A priest’s astonished voice came from a certain location, followed by the sounds of battle.
Upon hearing the noise, others rushed over, and Soren furrowed his brows as he flew towards the commotion. The demons using such broadly destructive methods are likely not just targeting mortals to harvest souls; Soren has a strong feeling that there is also an agenda against the gods. Once mortals fall victim to this kind of poison, they must rely on the priests’ divine techniques to dispel and heal them. Currently, during the Saint’s Cataclysm period, the divine techniques the gods can bestow upon the priests are quite limited.
In circumstances where divine techniques are limited, it becomes harder to contain the spread of such disasters.
If it cannot be controlled, the number of mortal deaths will continue to rise, which in turn will decrease the channels through which the gods receive faith. Eventually, it will turn into a vicious cycle—if a large number of mortal believers die, then the faith obtained by the gods will be even scarcer, and the situation will become increasingly unfavorable for them.
Demons and evil gods are not of the same ilk.
They only obey the commands of the Lord of Hell—Asmothiels, and merely maintain a respectful distance from other evil gods.
The actions of the demons this time are definitely related to the Lord of Hell!
When Soren arrived, the battle had already ended.
A mid-level chain demon, a mid-level bone demon, and a bunch of low-level demons had all been slain by the priests. In front of them stood a massive altar, shrouded in a stench of filth and poison, emanating a presence that belongs to the Hell of Bartok. Because the Hell of Bartok was originally created to be filled with toxins, flames, and torture, it is a plane birthed for punishing evil. The altar was polluting the nearby land, and if it continued, the water sources would also begin to be affected more broadly.
“Destroy this place.”
Soren frowned and commanded.
Upon hearing his order, the other wanderers and priests immediately began to take action, and before long, the altar was destroyed. With the shattering of the altar, the released corrosive energy gradually weakened, and from then on, it would just require purifying the land.
“Who!?”
“Who dares to disrupt my master’s plans!”
Just as the altar was completely destroyed, a mighty roar sounded, and flames erupted from beneath the altar. Next, a high-level demon, over three meters tall, emerged from the flames. This demon wielded a heavy greatsword, and its broad bat-like wings resembled those of other demons, with many physical traits that were very similar to greater demons, although the aura it emitted belonged to a high-level demon.
High-level Teleportation Spell.
To teleport so effortlessly to the Material Plane, its strength must certainly be above legendary rank. The way it appeared and the legendary pressure it bore made this clear beyond any doubt!
This was a demon on par with the Balroth Fire Demon, known as the “Abyssal Demon” of the Hell of Bartok!
The Abyssal Demon is the top combat force among the Bartz demons, looking quite similar to the Balroth Fire Demon, although its demonic traits suggest its strength may be slightly weaker than the Balroth Fire Demon. Of course, this comparison pertains to a face-to-face duel; in other battle circumstances, the Abyssal Demon may have a much higher chance of victory.
The strength of an Abyssal Demon exceeds 35 points, with a challenge level generally above 21.
If an ordinary mortal encounters them, no standard legendary team would have much chance of winning. Because demons are more cunning than typical demons, the Abyssal Demon excels in various teleportation techniques and can casually cast spells with strengths exceeding 25 points, such as “Blasphemous Words.” Theoretically, an Abyssal Demon possesses the capability to independently destroy a small city.
The pressure from the legendary demon enveloped everything nearby.
The Abyssal Demon aggressively emerged from the flames, casting a contemptuous glance at the priests and wanderers before its gaze landed on Soren and the high priest standing behind them. Just a moment ago, this demon had made a grand entrance, exuding an air of superiority, but the next moment, it activated high-level teleportation magic without saying a word, intending to flee in panic!
Planning to strut away after showing off?
Not a chance!
Soren, expressionless, watched the Abyssal Demon trying to show off, silently observing as it initiated “High-level Teleportation,” but just as the teleportation spell was about to complete and a look of surviving a disaster appeared on the demon’s face.
Soren silently waved his hand.
—“Spatial Shift [Divine Power]!”
The soon-to-be-completed teleportation spell vanished instantly, and the expression of the Abyssal Demon, which had once appeared to have survived a calamity, froze at that moment. Then, it stiffly turned around, without a word, its massive form fell to its knees before Soren, trembling as it said, “Great Lord of Shadows!”
“Protector of Half-Elves! Ruler of Modo! Supreme Lord Soren!”
“Humblest Flos did not intend to offend your majesty!…”
“Only!…”
The Abyssal Demon, who called itself Flos, hesitated for a moment, weighing the importance of its own life against its task, before directly revealing, “The humble Flos is only executing orders from the upper echelons of hell!”
“I had no intention of offending the great Lord Soren!…”
This guy knelt quite decisively.
Soren’s expression finally changed slightly, while the others present looked on in shock, seemingly unable to process what had just happened. Initially appearing in a completely imposing manner, the Abyssal Demon made a complete 360-degree turnaround and immediately knelt upon seeing Soren.
The performance of this Abyssal Demon was too dramatic!
It made everyone present feel a mix of amusement and incredulity, but deep down, they couldn’t help but admire how the demon truly had a good sense of timing.
Clearly!
It had done its homework before taking action, otherwise, it wouldn’t have recognized Soren at first glance.
And it knelt so smoothly!
