Chapter 5: Didn’t scare you, did I?
“Thanks.” Hu Yu Ying quietly said, glancing at the Dragon Brother as she returned to her seat.
It was as if a feather had softly fallen to the ground—if not for the aisle between Dragon Brother and Hu Yu Ying, you could almost miss it.
She looked at him.
Faced with Dragon Brother’s intense gaze, Hu Yu Ying nervously clenched her tiny fists, avoiding eye contact, desperately dodging his stare.
With a face that looked easy to bully and a gentle personality, and speaking in such a soft tone—who else was she going to bully if not her?
“Have you ever thought about changing?” Dragon Brother suddenly broke the silence.
In situations like this, Dragon Brother, being a laid-back troublemaker, could still stand up for Hu Yu Ying and speak out.
But outside the classroom, in the real world, at university—if Hu Yu Ying kept being like this, wouldn’t she just get bullied again wherever she went?
Hu Yu Ying lowered her gaze, thinking how she had tried to change. She tried to resist, but in the end, the bullying only worsened.
She also tried telling the teacher—only to hear, “A slap won’t make a sound. Why do they bully you and not others? Sometimes, you gotta look within yourself.”
Over time, Hu Yu Ying sank into self-doubt.
Did they really bully her because she was just not good enough? Was it truly her fault?
No one ever spoke up for her—she felt as if she was born to be bullied.
So, when the first person finally spoke up for her, Hu Yu Ying didn’t know how to respond.
Seeing her bow her head again, Dragon Brother frowned and said seriously, “Lift your head up!”
Hearing that, Hu Yu Ying obediently looked up, though her eyes still dodged his, afraid to meet his gaze.
Maybe Dragon Brother’s gaze was too obvious, because Hu Yu Ying suddenly felt her cheeks flush.
Out of instinct, she wanted to lower her head again.
“Don’t move.”
Dragon Brother said once more, his words naturally drawing his eyes to the other person when talking.
Hu Yu Ying was no exception. She looked up at Dragon Brother, just as he opened his mouth. Their eyes unintentionally met, and her palm clenched slightly: “What the heck?”
Seeing her face flush red yet refusing to bow her head, Dragon Brother nodded in satisfaction: “Not bad. You should be more confident. Eighteen is the age of blooming like a flower, bursting out proudly.”
“Look at you—speaking so softly, always keeping your head…”
At this point, Dragon Brother looked displeased. “See, see—you wanna lower your head again. You’re not a ostrich—wait, not even ostriches bow their heads as often as you do.”
Hu Yu Ying was just too lacking in confidence, used to being bullied, always accepting it silently.
Whenever something happened, she immediately lost her confidence.
People like her wouldn’t dare challenge unfairness—they’d just quietly suffer everyone’s bullying.
“I—I understand,” Hu Yu Ying said softly.
“Knowing isn’t enough. You gotta be brave and do something about it.”
Hearing that, Hu Yu Ying looked down, giving a gentle ‘mm.’.
She didn’t bow her head again, but that timid ‘mm’ already conveyed everything.
Dragon Brother sighed inwardly.
Having been bullied for so long, he didn’t expect Hu Yu Ying to turn things around overnight.
Just take it slow.
The story had already been changed because of him.
With the current situation, no one in this classroom should dare bully Hu Yu Ying anymore.
But if Hu Yu Ying—whose personality is so passive—doesn’t change, once she leaves this classroom, she’ll still be bullied by others.
Since he caused the plot to shift, he’d better help her regain her confidence, stand up to injustice and setbacks.
At least, in the future, when she encounters bullying again, she’ll dare to resist.
It’s not her fault—those malicious bullies are the real villains!
Thinking of that, Dragon Brother said, “Have you ever wondered why Wang Shuo dares to bully you but not others?”
Hu Yu Ying cautiously glanced at Dragon Brother, pursed her red lips: “Did I do something to make him upset?”
“Nonsense!”
Hu Yu Ying trembled, feeling how terrifying Dragon Brother’s gaze was.
He was speechless himself—what had that girl gone through that whenever a problem arose, she immediately looked for reasons within herself?
Is being soft and adorable a reason for people to bully her?
That’s absolutely not part of the problem!
“Who is right or wrong—Wang Shuo bullying you?”
Hu Yu Ying snuck another look at Dragon Brother, daring not to stare directly, but secretly trying to glance at him, whispering, “Is it Wang Shuo’s fault?”
Dragon Brother was amused to see her.
Seeing his helpless expression, Hu Yu Ying’s eyes dimmed—so it’s still her fault?
So she whispered in a very low voice, filled with grievance, “It’s my fault.”
“Exactly, it’s your fault!”
“You should tear his hair out, sh**t him a contemptuous look, and viciously tell him—you messed with the wrong person! I’m not so easy to bully!”
“Huh?” Hu Yu Ying was stunned, staring at Dragon Brother.
Although his words were crude, she didn’t feel uncomfortable or irritated at all.
“What does ‘huh’ mean? You want the soft persimmons, right? You’re just too easy to bully. Wherever you are, no matter who’s right or wrong, everyone just wants to squeeze you a little!”

“Show me some ferocity,” Dragon Brother said.
Hu Yu Ying nodded, took a deep breath, gritted her teeth, and with tears in her bright eyes—a look of tremendous grievance—she finally weakly complained: “I’m not wrong!”
After saying that, she carefully lifted her head, glanced at Dragon Brother, then whispered shyly, “I didn’t scare you, did I?”
“Not scared, but you got me excited!”
If he didn’t know she was just joking around, he might think she was deliberately enticing him, trying to win his heart and soul!
Dragon Brother sighed softly. “You’re too soft. Follow me from now on. I refuse to believe I can’t turn you into a tougher cookie!”
Hearing this, Hu Yu Ying lowered her gaze without replying.
Dragon Brother looked at her with suspicion. “What? Don’t you want to change that submissive personality that lets people bully you?”
“No, I…” Hu Yu Ying suddenly looked up, tears shimmering in her eyes.
This time, she looked directly at Dragon Brother’s eyes—no longer shying away.
But this expression made Dragon Brother uneasy—why was she crying after just a couple of words?
He quickly looked around—don’t let anyone think he was bullying her!
Hu Yu Ying took a deep breath, her tone filled with suppressed grievance: “I really want to change myself.”
No one wanted it more than her.
She didn’t want to be a soft persimmon anymore, subject to everyone’s bullying.
Everyone else took for granted that a single slap couldn’t be effective, and even if she was bullied, she would just look inward to find the cause.
But only Dragon Brother stood there asking—do you want to change?
Yes, she desperately did…
