Teaching the Female Lead to Be Thick-Skinned, Not Shameless – Chapter 49

Chapter 49: Why Does My Love Have to Go Through So Many Obstacles?

When I thought about Dragon Brother’s words, plus Ye Liang Chen flashing a mischievous grin at me, water dripped from his chin—creating a rather… drool-like effect. Smooth.

My body shivered involuntarily.

Realizing Hu Yu Ying’s gaze, Ye Liang Chen flicked his damp hair and offered a confident smile. “I guess you didn’t bring an umbrella today. I was worried about you, so I came to deliver one.”

Hu Yu Ying couldn’t bear to stare at the two tiny black spots on Ye Liang Chen’s chest. She turned her head and whispered, “Thanks, but I don’t need it.”

“I told you, no need to be so polite,” he said, handing her the umbrella. “Here, take it. Even though I got soaked delivering it, I’m really happy because I finally helped you out.”

With that, Ye Liang Chen spread his arms wide as if embracing the sky, letting the rain pour all over him—dead unbothered, like some kind of heroic statue. A look of pure bliss spread across his face.

Hu Yu Ying looked at this scene and felt her stomach churn with embarrassment. She subconsciously tried to distance herself from him.

But then—bam! Ye Liang Chen suddenly crossed his arms with a mischievous grin and made a “hug me” gesture.

“Hu Yu Ying, it’s cold today, but it just can’t compare to the warmth in my heart.”

“Because I helped you, I feel on fire with passion!”

Hu Yu Ying watched as Ye Liang Chen stubbornly stayed in the rain, still not seeking shelter under the eaves, and her inner monologue went, Yep, his brain’s probably a little off.

She muttered quietly, “No need. When the rain eases up, I’ll go.”

Ye Liang Chen chuckled coldly, “Are you worried about me?”

Confused, she blinked, “W-what?”

Ye Liang Chen then looked seriously into her eyes, speaking one word at a time. “You’re worried about me.”

“It’s okay. I’m a guy, this little shower is nothing—like taking a cold water bath.”

His antics drew a crowd—this was a big open square, and many people standing under awnings or just hiding from the rain were now all watching.

A little boy, wide-eyed, looked up and asked his mom, “Mom, is that soaked guy… confessing?”

Kids his age love TV shows, so seeing this kind of scene on the screen, he couldn’t help but ask.

Hearing this, Hu Yu Ying’s face turned red with embarrassment, and she shot a sharp glare at Ye Liang Chen.

But Ye Liang Chen, after catching her gaze, confidently shook his head with a bright smile.

“See? Even little kids can feel our love,” he said. “It’s as if the heavens have blessed our union.”

Hu Yu Ying frowned, took a step back, and kept her distance. “Don’t talk nonsense, okay?”

Ye Liang Chen sighed, voice a little low, tilting his head at a forty-five-degree angle, rain splattering on his face. “I’m not talking nonsense. There are some things you just don’t understand yet.”

Their bond began with two wounded souls caring for each other.

Ye Liang Chen’s confession was rejected, leaving him heartbroken.

Hu Yu Ying was bullied to the brink—mentally and physically exhausted.

But she was reborn, holding beautiful memories from her dreams.

Maybe that’s why Heaven granted her a second chance—to remember everything, to be there for Hu Yu Ying, to save her, and to walk together toward a better life.

Ye Liang Chen knew that if he said such things, Hu Yu Ying would probably think he’s a complete idiot.

But honestly—what’s wrong with being a love-obsessed fool?

Hu Yu Ying took a deep breath, knowing that arguing with someone who’s a few cards short of a full deck was just plain stupid.

“Sorry, I don’t understand what you’re saying. Please move aside; I’m leaving,” she said, ignoring the torrential rain, clutching her phone close to her chest, shrinking her neck, and rushing into the rain without looking back.

“Don’t go!” Ye Liang Chen blocked her path and gently grabbed her coat’s sleeve. “You’ll get soaked if you go back like that.”

Rain soon soaked Hu Yu Ying’s bangs and shoulders, making her anxious.

She didn’t want to stay and be entangled with him, but she also knew Dragon Brother was still waiting for her.

Right now, being pulled by Ye Liang Chen, her heart was anxious and a little mad.

But because Hu Yu Ying’s personality was so soft, even when she was anxious or angry, she rarely said nasty things. Instead, she clumsily tried to pull her sleeve back.

Just as her inner panic hit its peak, a deep, magnetic voice with a cold tone echoed from behind.

“Let go!”

This icy voice was even colder than the pouring rain.

Both Hu Yu Ying and Ye Liang Chen froze in place, then turned to look toward the source.

Standing there, holding an umbrella in one hand and a bright yellow-red plastic bag from the market in the other, the figure’s heart skipped a beat—and then froze.

Staring at the tall, handsome figure standing in the rain, she felt a sudden sense of calm, as if behind him stood a high wall buffering everything.

She never thought Dragon Brother would come for her.

Dragon Brother, with a faint smile, looked at Ye Liang Chen, his eyes as cold as a winter night—brimming with an icy, invasive aura that sent chills down the spine, making even her skin crawl.

Confronted by Dragon Brother’s gaze, Ye Liang Chen instinctively loosened his hold.

Hu Yu Ying quickly retracted her sleeve, and in the next second, the rain was blocked. She looked up at Dragon Brother, who was holding the umbrella over her, and a small smile appeared on her face: “Brother Long.”

Dragon Brother said nothing, only fixed his gaze on Ye Liang Chen.

If she remembered correctly, Hu Yu Ying said earlier that it was this person who knocked on her door.

The consequence of staying up late reading novels is that one day, after pulling an all-nighter, you close your eyes and open them again, only to find yourself transmigrated into the role of a villainous male supporting character. Readers familiar with urban wish-fulfillment novels know that it is only through the relentless antics of the villainous male supporting character that the plot between the male and female leads can progress. As the villainous male supporting character, Long Aotian not only has to bully the female lead, harass the second female lead, and flirt with the third female lead, but he also has to go all out to antagonize the male lead. In the end, when his body is discovered, he is still clutching half a moldy fried dough stick in his hand. Fully aware of the plot, Long Aotian is determined to change his fate, starting with the female lead! In the beginning, the female lead lacks confidence: “Big brother, I hope I didn’t scare you?” In the middle, the female lead treads carefully: “Brother Long, please don’t hit me, okay?” Later on, the female lead becomes coquettishly clingy: “Aotian, it’s time to pay the ‘public grain’ tonight.” Long Aotian’s legs go weak, and he feels like crying: “I taught you to be thick-skinned, not shameless!”
