Chapter 50: After this, I’ll Make Sure You Can Eat Me Anytime
Walking on the way back home.
Hu Yu Ying secretly let out a relieved breath and glanced at Long Brother, softly smiling. “Long Ge, thanks for coming to pick me up.”
“Next time you need help, just tell me directly.”
“I’m your big brother, and you’re my little teacher. No need to feel bothered. If I hadn’t come today, wouldn’t you be worried about walking back in the rain and getting sick?”
Hearing Long Brother’s slightly reproachful tone, Hu Yu Ying didn’t feel hurt but chuckled lightly instead. “Got it.”
Seeing how obedient Hu Yu Ying was, Long Brother couldn’t help but find it amusing. No matter what he said, she always nodded and said she understood.
But when real help was needed, she still faced everything alone.
She was inherently afraid of trouble, but isn’t helping each other just what humanity is all about?
“Long Ge, let me carry some stuff for you.”
Watching Long Brother hold up an umbrella in one hand and carry some bags in the other.
Hu Yu Ying, with her hands empty, spoke up hurriedly. “The stuff’s pretty light.” She reached for the bag in Long Brother’s hand.
“It’s really light,” Long Brother lifted his hand slightly to dodge Hu Yu Ying’s attempt.
“I’m empty-handed and you’re holding an umbrella. Let me help you carry a bit,” Hu Yu Ying said shyly, looking at him.
“Stop nagging or I’ll kick you into the rain myself,” Long Brother warned.
Hearing that, Hu Yu Ying froze awkwardly in place.
Seeing her like that, Long Brother laughed. “When we get back, you’re cooking dinner for me. You’ll be busy then.”
Hearing she could help Long Brother, Hu Yu Ying instantly lit up with happiness. “Yes, I’ll make lots of dishes. Just tell me what you want to eat.”
“If I don’t know how to make it, I can learn. I’m quick at learning stuff.”
“Okay, okay, okay. I know you’re restless. Can we go home now and cook for me? I’m starving,” Long Brother urged.
“Yup yup, got it. Long Ge, come with me. I know a shortcut here, it’s much closer,” Hu Yu Ying said, unintentionally grabbing Long Brother’s arm.
They were on a train track turnaround point.
Crossing the big gate, walking through the alley formed by empty wine bags, jumping off the platform, crossing the tracks — taking this route saved a lot of time.
“ Why does the weather have to be like this? Once we’re home, the rain’s easing up,” Long Brother closed the umbrella, looking at the drizzling rain, and said, “Can you cook ribs? Today’s rib day.”
He handed all the groceries, meat, and ribs at once to Hu Yu Ying.
Seeing the bags Long Brother handed over, Hu Yu Ying’s gaze drifted blankly. “Long Ge, helping you with your homework is voluntary. Just tell me what you want to eat…”
Before she finished, Long Brother tapped her head. “Stop nagging or I’ll punch you.”
“Are you the kind of big brother who loves to take little advantages? You don’t even know how happy Old Man was about my fifth-from-last exam score. If I hadn’t stopped him, he’d have carried the meat right over to your house,” he teased.
Hu Yu Ying wasn’t used to accepting gifts from others, but for some reason, after hearing Long Brother’s words, a faint smile appeared on her lips.
“Let’s have rib noodles tonight, okay?”
“All fine.”
Hu Yu Ying carried the bags into the kitchen, grabbed a towel, and said, “Long Ge, wipe yourself down first. Sit in the main room, it’ll be ready soon.”
When handing the towel to Long Brother, she noticed that his side, which held the groceries, was already soaked from the rain.
Compared to her, who was only wet at the start, she hadn’t gotten rained on again after that.
Back in the room, Hu Yu Ying looked at her clothes.
Apart from the floral short-sleeve shirt, everything else seemed too tight.
She picked up the floral shirt, face inexplicably blushing.
“Long Ge, if you don’t mind, wear this first,” she said, placing the clothes in his hand before heading into the kitchen.
Boiling some hot water, adding sliced ginger to simmer together.
She took out a bowl of hot ginger water and carried it into the room.
Seeing Long Brother’s current look, her eyes sparkled with amusement.
The loose floral shirt she originally wore looked a bit tight on Long Brother — quite the quirky sight.
Noticing Hu Yu Ying staring, Long Brother awkwardly tugged at his clothes. “You’re laughing? You’re asking for a punch?”
“I’m laughing, and you want to punch me too?” she replied, a bit blushing and grumpy, handing him the steaming ginger tea.
Looking at the hot ginger tea in her hands, Long Brother sniffed. “Don’t think I won’t punch you just because you made ginger tea for me.”
Hu Yu Ying turned to walk into the kitchen. As she lifted the bamboo curtain, she quietly peeked at Long Brother drinking the ginger tea, lips pressed into a faint smile as she began to cook.
Long Brother bought lots of ingredients—plenty of meat and ribs.
Hu Yu Ying organized everything in the kitchen and stored it in the fridge.
As long as these ingredients remain good, they can last for a long time.
After deboning the ribs, she scooped out a bowl of meat, then used the rib broth to cook noodles.
The flour dissolved into the broth, making it thick and sticky, coating the noodles deliciously.
She tasted the flavor, eyes lighting up in satisfaction, then brought the bowl to Long Brother.
“I’ll do it myself,” Long Brother hurriedly lifted the bamboo curtain to catch the bowl and chopsticks.
Two bowls of noodles, half a basin of ribs.
Long Brother took a bite and couldn’t help but praise Hu Yu Ying’s cooking.
“Hu Yu Ying, you’re too good—great looks, quick learner, and even the food is so tasty!”

Hearing Long Brother’s praise, Hu Yu Ying blushed shyly. It was only homemade comfort food after all.
But seeing Long Brother enjoy it so much, her eyes shimmered with hope: “Next time I’ll make everything you like.”
“Before exams, it’s troublesome,” Long Brother joked.
Hearing that, Hu Yu Ying’s expression darkened for a moment. “If you want to eat later, just tell me.”
Upon hearing this, Long Brother paused, then looked up and saw Hu Yu Ying smiling earnestly, her eyes full of gentle teasing. He instinctively looked away.
Wiping his mouth with a tissue, he swallowed his food.
“Let’s talk about later. For now, it’s perfect as it is.”
“Mm-hm.”
After finishing the meal, Hu Yu Ying assigned Long Brother ten questions based on her previous exam mistakes—questions she’d summarized.
She patiently explained the ones Long Brother couldn’t answer.
She used to just enjoy the quiet study atmosphere, but now, she added one more thing: she loved giving Long Brother lessons.
Seeing her confident expression while explaining, Long Brother clearly sensed her happiness.
Feeling Long Brother’s gaze on her face, Hu Yu Ying raised her eyes, smiling softly. “Long Ge, why are you looking at me like that…?”
Her eyelashes fluttered slightly as she shyly lowered her gaze to the practice questions on the desk.
It seemed she didn’t want Long Brother to notice her flushed cheeks.
“What are you saying? I’m just thinking about the questions—zoned out a bit!”
