Teaching the Female Lead to Be Thick-Skinned, Not Shameless – Chapter 79

Chapter 79: Dragon Brother’s Passive Skill

The next morning, bright and early.

Hu Yu Ying was already awake and ready to kick off her day with all the energy of a caffeinated squirrel.

First, she tidied herself up like she was preparing for a photoshoot. Then, she twirled her long hair into a perfect bun—because what better way to make breakfast than with style?—and strutted into the kitchen like she owned the place.

She poured water into the flour, giving it a good stir until it was both watery and sticky enough to challenge even the most seasoned chef. Next, crack! went an egg into the mixture, followed by more stirring—because she wasn’t about to serve up a bland pancake.

Today’s breakfast was for Dragon Brother—because plain chicken soup just wouldn’t cut it when you’ve got a man like him with a bottomless stomach. Hu Yu Ying knew all about his appetite after spending so much time together. The larger he grew, the more he ate—probably to stretch those long legs and keep that tall frame growing. It made perfect sense.

She hummed a cheerful tune, flipping the batter onto the pan with the grace of a dance champion. Everything was simple, everything went smoothly—quick, easy, and perfectly imperfect.

When the pancake was ready, the water on the stove hit a rolling boil. Off went the heat, and she silently sat on the steps beneath the eaves, clutching her phone as if it were a treasure. She was waiting for Dragon Brother. This, beside studying, was her favorite pastime—small but meaningful.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang. Hu Yu Ying’s face lit up into a dopey, happy smile—her heart bursting with joy. She rushed to open the door.

“Dragon Brother, you’re here!” she greeted, eyes sparkling.

He nodded kindly. “Yep, thanks for the help.”

“No fuss at all!” she chirped, practically bouncing back into the kitchen.

She flicked on the stove again, waiting for the water to boil a bit longer before she handed him a pancake.

“Here, try this, even if it doesn’t look pretty—trust me, it’s delicious,” she said proudly.

Some pancakes had become a little more “cracked” during flipping—accidents happen; blame her not the pancake’s bad attitude.

Dragon Brother watched her from the side, noticing how, in Hu Yu Ying’s world, he seemed to need no help whatsoever. She was the queen of doing everything, and he was happily along for the ride, a gentle giant who didn’t mind being taken care of.

“Let’s eat together,” he suggested.

“Alright!” Hu Yu Ying nodded excitedly. She carefully stirred the hot water into a whirlpool with her chopsticks, creating a mini tornado. Once the swirling water was just right, she poured in her beaten eggs in a spiral, watching the beautiful egg flower bloom in the bubbling bath.

“Wow, Hu Yu Ying! Your egg flower skills are next level,” Dragon Brother marveled, genuinely impressed.

Her cheeks heated up, but she kept her lips sealed tight, pretending not to be glowing with happiness. Her eyes, however, betrayed her—they curled into tiny crescent moons, showing a little smile only her silly face could hide.

Dragon Brother’s satisfaction only grew seeing her happy; making this little girl smile had somehow become his unspoken superpower—triggered effortlessly during every encounter.

After breakfast, the strict little teacher (Hu Yu Ying) turned up the heat.

“Dragon Brother, you played too much yesterday. You didn’t finish your homework,” she proclaimed with a stern look that didn’t quite suit her adorable face.

“Today, you’re going to make up for it—double!” she declared.

He looked at her with a mixture of amusement and helplessness. “Who said I was that happy yesterday?”

“You! You said you were super excited!” he teased, earning a blush from her.

“Living and studying—figuring out what suits you best—that’s the key. You’re too tired, you need to relax a little, balance work and play. Today, we’re catching up on all the homework you skipped.”

Their outing yesterday was no accident; it was planned to give Hu Yu Ying a break, even if Dragon Brother—the man with a mind of twenty-eight but a soul nearing middle age—looked exhausted just watching her. School was life, homework was life, eating and sleeping just barely kept pace.

He didn’t mind; he just wanted to add a dash of controllable calm to their monotonous routines—practice makes perfect, after all.

So, besides lunch, every other moment was spent with a pencil in hand and questions on paper.

Back in the classroom, a new round of lessons started. Everything seemed bland until…

The alarm rang sharply, announcing a new chapter of drama.

Class Homeroom Teacher, with a face as dark as a moonless night, called Dragon Brother out by the door. Everyone warily watched the scene—something was definitely off with the teacher today.

Hu Yu Ying, puzzled, wondered why the teacher was so mad at her Dragon Brother.

His grades had improved, he was behaving, and he seemed like a different person—quiet, disciplined, and studious. The boy who used to fight outside the schoolyard now looked like he was ready to join the monkhood. At least, that’s what everyone saw.

Frowning slightly, Dragon Brother tried to plead, “Please don’t be mad. What’s going on?”

“How can I not be mad? You’ve been doing so well recently—everyone thought you turned a new leaf! And now I hear you’re fighting off-campus, and the parents are at the school,” the teacher snapped.

“Fighting? Is there really another Dragon Brother in our school?”

“Are you joking with me right now?”

The teacher sighed dramatically, looking him over with disappointment. “Come with me.”

And so they headed out, leaving the classroom to explode into whispers.

The third-year students, exhausted from the relentless grind of senior high, saw this as just another flavor in their dull but necessary life menu—spice up the routine.

Meanwhile, Li Qian and a few other girls, seeing Dragon Brother taken away, decided it was safe to approach Hu Yu Ying.

They leaned in, whispering their theories, eager to share gossip.

Hu Yu Ying listened, her mind a thousand miles away, shaking her head gently. “That’s impossible. There’s clearly a big misunderstanding…”

They all knew Dragon Brother used to fight outside. Breaking fights was as habitual as eating and sleeping for him, a simple task. But Hu Yu Ying, even if she didn’t know his past in detail, believed one thing—this time, he was wrongfully accused.

Because on Saturday, they hung out all day until 8:30 PM, when Dragon Brother finally went home. And today, he was at her place by 7 AM—there was no way he was out fighting.

Suddenly, she stood up with a jump that made the girls around her gasp.

“Hu Yu Ying, what are you doing?” they asked hesitantly.

“I know there’s a misunderstanding. I need to find the teacher and explain!” she declared, determined to clear her Dragon Brother’s name, refusing to let him be falsely accused.

The consequence of staying up late reading novels is that one day, after pulling an all-nighter, you close your eyes and open them again, only to find yourself transmigrated into the role of a villainous male supporting character. Readers familiar with urban wish-fulfillment novels know that it is only through the relentless antics of the villainous male supporting character that the plot between the male and female leads can progress. As the villainous male supporting character, Long Aotian not only has to bully the female lead, harass the second female lead, and flirt with the third female lead, but he also has to go all out to antagonize the male lead. In the end, when his body is discovered, he is still clutching half a moldy fried dough stick in his hand. Fully aware of the plot, Long Aotian is determined to change his fate, starting with the female lead! In the beginning, the female lead lacks confidence: “Big brother, I hope I didn’t scare you?” In the middle, the female lead treads carefully: “Brother Long, please don’t hit me, okay?” Later on, the female lead becomes coquettishly clingy: “Aotian, it’s time to pay the ‘public grain’ tonight.” Long Aotian’s legs go weak, and he feels like crying: “I taught you to be thick-skinned, not shameless!”
