Teaching the Female Lead to Be Thick-Skinned, Not Shameless – Chapter 258

Chapter 258: I Don’t Feel Sorry for You

Back on that leaf-strewn, inner pathway.

Dragon Brother’s sharp eyes swept over the area; the figure wearing the hat, curled up on the park bench, had vanished into thin air.

He strode quickly over, only to find a few empty beer cans left by the bench—drunk dry, of course.

Dragon Brother let out a sigh, glancing around. His gaze searched everywhere but found no trace of the person he desperately wanted to see right now.

“Shen Meng Jie?”

“Shen Meng Jie, are you still here?”

At this moment, Dragon Brother was genuinely starting to panic.

A twinge of regret gnawed at him. He had already sensed that Shen Meng Jie’s mood wasn’t quite right today. If only he could put aside his petty prejudices just for a moment and listen to what she wanted to say—maybe, just maybe, he could at least prevent her from going down a dark path of no return…

Honestly, Dragon Brother didn’t really understand who Shen Meng Jie truly was…

Suddenly, it was like he remembered something.

He fished out his phone.

Opened Qiezi Messaging, and tapped on the friend requests list—the very first one was Shen Meng Jie.

Friend request verification: 【Is that you?】

Seeing those three words, Dragon Brother rubbed his head in frustration.

Thoughts flooded his mind, conjuring up what Shen Meng Jie might have said: 【I’ve been waiting for you a long time.】

She was waiting for him—was she asking for an explanation? Or a justification? Or maybe she just wanted to hear from him whether this whole thing had anything to do with himself?

But what had he done?

In the end, her desperate cry: 【Why? On what basis?】—was it a question directed at him, or a question she was asking herself?

He didn’t know. All Dragon Brother knew now was that he had to find Shen Meng Jie and clear everything up—this had nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with him…

So, after sending the friend request, he dialed Shen Meng Jie’s video call.

But she didn’t answer. The call just rang out into the void.

Dragon Brother took a deep, long breath. He imagined himself as Shen Meng Jie. If he were in her shoes—confused, lost, with no one to talk to—where would he go?

It was just a fleeting thought.

But in that split second, Dragon Brother thought of one place.

If he was himself, and his mind was in chaos, craving solitude and clarity, he would go there.

But he also hoped Shen Meng Jie wouldn’t go there.

With that in mind, Dragon Brother sprinted to another side path.

Under the moonlight, he suddenly stopped in his tracks, eyes fixed on a row of discarded beer cans on the roadside.

His mood was tumultuous.

A strange, indescribable emotion tugged at his mind.

He didn’t want her to come here, yet he was oddly glad that he had come here himself.

Not far ahead was a man-made lake. The surrounding woods, often a romantic spot for couples, was quieter now with the weather turning chilly—few lingered, braving the cold wind for a date.

The moon’s bright glow reflected on the lake’s surface, faintly shrouded in a layer of silver—like a sprinkle of shimmering silver flakes.

The breeze ruffled the water, scattering the moonlight reflection, creating waves that gathered again and again.

The scenery was beautiful, but Dragon Brother’s attention never lingered.

His gaze was locked on the slender figure sitting on a stone not far away.

He had thought of everything he wanted to say before coming here.

But now, words seemed to have lost all meaning.

“You’re here.”

“Let me guess—are you a prophet?” Dragon Brother tried to lighten the mood with some easy talk, hoping to break the silence.

A crisp chuckle pierced the night.

Even he was taken aback—was he really that funny?

But if she could still chuckle at his joke, it meant things weren’t as bad as he feared.

“I’m not a prophet. I just thought you’d come.”

Hearing Shen Meng Jie say that, Dragon Brother didn’t bother to be cautious anymore. He simply stepped forward and sat down on the other side of the cans she had placed.

“Want some?”

He picked up a bottle, twisted the cap off, and said, “Then let’s have a drink.”

Shen Meng Jie turned with a soft smile, nudging her can to clink with his.

“Do you think I’m so fragile?”

“That’s not it.”

“Fake.”

“Someone once told me the same thing,” she said. “They said: I’m not as fragile as I seem.”

“When you picked up that bottle and said that, I knew you weren’t that fragile. OK, maybe I’m late to the party, but I honestly never thought you were that weak.”

Hearing this, Shen Meng Jie chuckled softly. She didn’t speak, only tilted her head as if about to gulp down her beer in one go.

And she did just that—after opening another bottle, Dragon Brother sighed and snatched it away.

“Hey, what are you doing? Give me the drink. I don’t need anyone’s pity.”

“Honestly, I don’t feel sorry for you,” he said seriously. “At least, not for how you’re acting.”

Just pointing out that Shen Meng Jie sent some wrong signals to Huang Fei, then went off to hang out with other guys, to dine with other men—that alone, Dragon Brother thought, was pretty wrong.

Shen Meng Jie smiled again, opening a new bottle of beer and taking a small sip. “Kindness or not, I don’t care.”

“And I don’t care about those crappy online comments either.”

“To me, you do care,” Dragon Brother said quietly.

The consequence of staying up late reading novels is that one day, after pulling an all-nighter, you close your eyes and open them again, only to find yourself transmigrated into the role of a villainous male supporting character. Readers familiar with urban wish-fulfillment novels know that it is only through the relentless antics of the villainous male supporting character that the plot between the male and female leads can progress. As the villainous male supporting character, Long Aotian not only has to bully the female lead, harass the second female lead, and flirt with the third female lead, but he also has to go all out to antagonize the male lead. In the end, when his body is discovered, he is still clutching half a moldy fried dough stick in his hand. Fully aware of the plot, Long Aotian is determined to change his fate, starting with the female lead! In the beginning, the female lead lacks confidence: “Big brother, I hope I didn’t scare you?” In the middle, the female lead treads carefully: “Brother Long, please don’t hit me, okay?” Later on, the female lead becomes coquettishly clingy: “Aotian, it’s time to pay the ‘public grain’ tonight.” Long Aotian’s legs go weak, and he feels like crying: “I taught you to be thick-skinned, not shameless!”
