Teaching the Female Lead to Be Thick-Skinned, Not Shameless – Chapter 259

Chapter 259: Are You Crazy?

After a long while, Dragon Brother lightly tapped Shen Meng Jie’s wine bottle with his own. “I’ll drink with you, but just drinking isn’t fun. From now on, every time you say one more word, I’ll drink another bottle…”

Before Shen Meng Jie could agree or refuse, Dragon Brother tilted his head and chugged the beer straight from the can, then let out a heavy burp, spraying a bit of alcohol into the night air. Without missing a beat, he opened another can of beer and set it beside him, silently waiting.

Shen Meng Jie looked at him with a mix of amusement and disbelief. “You’re really something. Clearly, you don’t fancy me at all, but you do such baffling things—like, what’s your deal?”

Dragon Brother didn’t reply. Instead, he picked up his beer and drained it in one gulp again.

“Haa…” he exhaled, a cool night breeze blowing past. Two cans of beer down, and suddenly he felt more energized.

“What are you trying to do? Think this is fun? Think it’s cool? Do you honestly believe this will touch someone like me?”

“You’re crazy, right?”

“Don’t think I’m all that shitty either. You weren’t the one who said I was boring, right? So what are you doing now?”

“I told you, I don’t need your pity at all. Don’t say this isn’t pity—if it wasn’t, how come you’re sitting here drinking with me?”

Shen Meng Jie stared blankly at Dragon Brother gulping down another bottle, the clear and beautiful almond-shaped eyes now clouded with a hazy glow. Gone was her usual commanding presence.

She cried. Her emotions burst out in an instant…

Dragon Brother finished his drink, crushing the empty can flat.

He understood why Shen Meng Jie was crying. It was the first time he’d seen her show such tender vulnerability—a side she rarely revealed. Even when he’d caught her with other guys at KTV or having dinner with other men, she always kept her strong front, arms crossed, grinning, acting like she was just enjoying the thrill of being chased.

She had said earlier that if she could swap lives, she’d learn to not care.

Dragon Brother didn’t know her past, but he understood that right now, what she needed was not comfort, but release.

In some ways, she resembled his little follower.

The difference was, his little follower never once considered giving up. She pushed herself upward, climbing higher and higher, finally soaring.

Shen Meng Jie, on the other hand, seemed to have settled for resignation. She didn’t care if the guy was rich or ordinary—she just sought fleeting fun.

Even if that fun was short-lived.

He quietly glanced at the last bottle of beer, subtly slipping it into his coat pocket.

“If you’re so upset, you should find out who’s behind all this. Although ‘clear as day’ might be too much of a stretch…”

The person spreading Shen Meng Jie’s info was probably that bunch of guys chasing her, the ones whose girlfriends might get involved.

If that’s the case, Dragon Brother could understand.

But this kind of thing isn’t something one can just slap a big ‘scandal’ label on.

Both sides should shoulder some of the blame—fairness, you know?

If a guy with a girlfriend still pursues Shen Meng Jie, and she’s unaware of his relationships, then the punishment kinda makes sense, right?

And if Shen Meng Jie knows the guy has a girlfriend but still chases after what she calls “excitement,” she deserves the public outcry.

After listening to Dragon Brother, Shen Meng Jie shook her head.

“I don’t know if the guys chasing me have girlfriends.”

“If they do, that’s just disgusting.”

“You’re no better either.”

“But I do have my bottom line,” she continued. “At least, I won’t accept other guys chasing me when I have a boyfriend.”

“That other girl’s crazy too—she can’t control her man and comes after me.”

“I swear to heaven—if I like a guy’s dish, I’d go find him myself. But those guys actively chasing me? Not one of them dares claim they’re not just after my body…”

“So you’re just fine hanging around those guys?”

“If one day you really meet your beloved and that person finds out everything you’re doing now, can you be 100% sure they won’t mind?”

“The fun you’re testing the limits of now will have to be paid back someday…”

Strangely, Shen Meng Jie didn’t argue anymore. She hesitated, speechless.

“Also, about your earlier question—why I said I was ‘sympathetic’—actually, the opposite is true. I don’t really pity you that much.”

“I came to see you because I heard rumors and saw your message on the phone.”

“You asked me: ‘Is it me?’”

“Let me tell you officially—it’s not me.”

Shen Meng Jie lowered her gaze softly. “I know it’s not you. You wouldn’t do something like that.”

“So, what do you think I should do now?”

“If I were you, I’d find whoever posted that stuff and confront them face to face.”

“One slap never hits twice,” she said. “Your actions weren’t good, yes. But if the person pursuing you knew they already had a girlfriend, and that’s why all this chaos happened, then they should bear some responsibility too—not just blame everything on you.”

“All I’m saying is, if you didn’t know he had a girlfriend in the first place, then even if you find him now, it’d just be digging your own grave.”

Wearing down, Shen Meng Jie nodded but quickly looked crestfallen again. She covertly glanced at Dragon Brother, a peculiar flicker in her eyes, then whispered: “How do I find that behind-the-scenes guy?”

“Are you just using all your brain power on how to flirt with guys?”

Shen Meng Jie felt embarrassed, almost too ashamed to meet his eyes. She lowered her head and said, “I know I was wrong. Don’t keep blaming me… please…”

Her submissive apology made Dragon Brother chuckle. If she’d realized this wasn’t right from the start, how could all that have happened?

Maybe that’s what the older folks call—poor souls have their own faults, huh?

“First of all, you have to understand—the internet is not a lawless place. Whatever someone does leaves clues. Sure, you might not track them yourself, but professionals can—like those computer geniuses.”

“Of course, this has to be done discreetly. Spend a little money, ask someone to track it, follow the breadcrumbs—you’ll find some clues eventually.”

Shen Meng Jie looked at Dragon Brother for a long moment before speaking.

“Thank you.”

“Thank you? No need. The biggest thing is, we’ve cleared up the misunderstanding between us. That’s worth more than anything…”

The consequence of staying up late reading novels is that one day, after pulling an all-nighter, you close your eyes and open them again, only to find yourself transmigrated into the role of a villainous male supporting character. Readers familiar with urban wish-fulfillment novels know that it is only through the relentless antics of the villainous male supporting character that the plot between the male and female leads can progress. As the villainous male supporting character, Long Aotian not only has to bully the female lead, harass the second female lead, and flirt with the third female lead, but he also has to go all out to antagonize the male lead. In the end, when his body is discovered, he is still clutching half a moldy fried dough stick in his hand. Fully aware of the plot, Long Aotian is determined to change his fate, starting with the female lead! In the beginning, the female lead lacks confidence: “Big brother, I hope I didn’t scare you?” In the middle, the female lead treads carefully: “Brother Long, please don’t hit me, okay?” Later on, the female lead becomes coquettishly clingy: “Aotian, it’s time to pay the ‘public grain’ tonight.” Long Aotian’s legs go weak, and he feels like crying: “I taught you to be thick-skinned, not shameless!”
