Chapter 294: She Made Me Feel That It Has Meaning
“Whatcha looking at?” Shen Meng Jie glanced at the slightly red hand, softly asking.
Lung Ao Tian shook his head. “Nothing, just felt that guy’s back looked kinda familiar. But I can’t quite remember where I’ve seen it before.”
Shen Meng Jie also looked toward the disappearing silhouette. “There are so many people in this world. How many of them have similar backs? If that was someone you knew, she’d probably have waved or said hi, right?”
“Yeah, that’s true.”
Lung Ao Tian withdrew his gaze, casting an eye toward Shen Meng Jie’s hand. “Let’s go home first. Get some ointment on that burn—probably nothing serious.”
He then stood up and headed toward the checkout counter.
Walking along the street, Shen Meng Jie shot a curious glance at Lung Ao Tian.
“Spill it. Don’t give me that hesitant, tongue-tied look—I saw it, I got anxious.”
“Remember we agreed today I’d give you some advice, but then I went and messed it all up myself. Doesn’t that ruin your mood?”
Hearing this, Lung Ao Tian chuckled. “What are you talking about? Does it really matter? Besides, you got burned too, didn’t you?”
“Actually, just now, your analysis of Little Girl’s personality was pretty accurate. It gave me a flash of insight.”
Wow, Little Girl really is amazing. Actually, she’s not as delicate as she appears—she’s brave, eager for change.
You see, many people aren’t willing to take that step.
But my Little Girl did it. And she’s been doing pretty well so far.
If the characters in storybooks are just NPCs following a fixed script, then my Little Girl has broken free from that plan.
Her life now, her efforts, are pretty much what she wants them to be.
Maybe it’s not as dazzling as in the original story.
But Lung Ao Tian firmly believes, Little Girl will live her life splendidly, just fine.
And she’s got me. I might not be much, but I can protect her, keep her happy—that’s enough.
Hearing Lung Ao Tian’s words, Shen Meng Jie’s expression turned even more peculiar. “Do you even realize how weird you are?”
“ Weird? What’s strange about that? I think I’m more like a lucky guy.”
“That’s exactly what’s weird. Who says they’re lucky?”
“In this crazy world, meeting one person, knowing them—that’s lucky enough. I really think I’m fortunate.”
Shen Meng Jie shook her head, scoffing lightly. “If luck like that existed, why have I never encountered it?”
“You will.”
“Huh?”
“I said you will. When you’re upset, isn’t it true that many people are willing to lend a hand?”
“Lung Ao Tian.” Shen Meng Jie suddenly stopped, snapping out of her casualness, her attitude becoming very serious. “What kind of person do you think I am in your eyes?”
It was strange. She once claimed she didn’t care what others thought, yet she was so obsessed with how Lung Ao Tian perceived her. She was so tangled up…
She’d asked Lung Ao Tian that question before, but never really gotten a meaningful answer.
She thought herself proud and strong—always had been.
But in front of Lung Ao Tian, all her so-called pride and strength seemed shattered.
Growing up, her environment taught her to read people quickly, to see through their little tricks straight away.
So she could navigate effortlessly among shady men, getting whatever she wanted.
Does she want money? Maybe. Or maybe it’s just about enjoying victory, or the thrill—those moments when someone’s completely at your mercy, spinning in your palm.
Her life felt like trash. Maybe she once dreamed of changing it, but eventually, she gave in.
Lung Ao Tian pondered seriously for a moment before replying, “You’re a flirtatious, yet love-and-hate kind of girl.”
Hearing this, Shen Meng Jie’s eyes fluttered as she shot Lung Ao Tian a glance, a slight smile curl on her lips. “Actually, I’m a bad girl.”
“Yes, you’re quite the complicated one,” he replied.
They had reached the little pharmacy, where Wan Ning had bought ointment earlier.
“Let’s go inside and take a look.”
No big deal; applying the ointment would help reduce swelling.
“Thanks.”
Lung Ao Tian handed her the ointment. “No need to thank me. Just don’t always give me that naughty look next time we meet.”
Shen Meng Jie felt a bit guilty. “I’ll try.”
“What do you mean try? Do I look fun to tease?”
“Who asked you to keep bullying me?” Shen Meng Jie lowered her head and kicked a small stone.
Lung Ao Tian was stunned. “Who’s bullying you?”
“You always scold me and tap my head. I’m already an adult—yet I get scolded like a kid by you…” she murmured.
Hearing this, Lung Ao Tian laughed out loud. Yes, he had indeed been harsh before… he just didn’t expect her little vengeful heart to remember it for so long…
“And I’ve never taken advantage of you, you never let me,” she added.
“Next time, I’ll let you.”
“You’re so careless,” she said.
“Oh, I’ve found you’re really trouble. If I don’t give you in, you’d say I’m too passive. If I give in, you still say I’m too dismissive…” He shook his head helplessly.
“Isn’t this just girl stuff? Aren’t most girls like this?” Shen Meng Jie couldn’t understand. If she said these things to someone else, wouldn’t they immediately think she was throwing a tantrum and say something nice to comfort her?
She truly couldn’t understand this man. But the more she tried to figure him out, the more she wanted to see clearly. The closer she got, the stranger she felt—like she was caught in a strange, uncontrollable web…
Lung Ao Tian shook his head again. At least Little Girl wouldn’t act like that; she always followed his lead.
Sometimes fooling her, when she found out, she’d just say, “Brother Lung, you’re so naughty—don’t trust you anymore!” But every time, she’d still believe in him—such a silly, kind-hearted girl.
Watching the faintly indulgent smile on Lung Ao Tian’s face, Shen Meng Jie pressed her lips, her eyes flickering with a tentative question. “Lung Ao Tian, have you ever thought about what would happen if one day you and your girlfriend have a disagreement, you fight—what would you do?”
“Definitely my fault. I’d just agree with her,” he said without hesitation.
Having a treasure girl like Little Girl was his luck. When her cage opened and she flew back to his side—it was right and wrong, fair and unfair—everything was his fault.
There’s no such thing as perfect matches in this world; mutual understanding and compromise are needed for longevity. Mutual effort makes it better. Knowing that, Lung Ao Tian was more willing to tolerate and accommodate her, because she made his life meaningful…
