Chapter 339: You Don’t Understand Brother At All
—
Thursday.
With the sports meet approaching, the number of students in cultural classes noticeably decreased.
Dragon Brother had barely settled into his seat when a figure sidled up to him.
He glanced up and immediately frowned.
Seeing the furrowed brow of Dragon Brother, Shen Meng Jie chuckled lightly, “Sorry about last night.”
Dragon Brother coolly responded, “Is that supposed to be interesting?”
“What?”
“Toying with me. Do you find that amusing?”
“I thought you’d like it! Besides, I haven’t kissed anyone in ages, so I figured we’d both enjoy it,” Shen Meng Jie explained softly as she settled into a seat not far from him.
“And really, even if you didn’t like it, why be so mad? You didn’t exactly lose out.”
Dragon Brother was rendered speechless by Shen Meng Jie’s twisted logic. “You’re a girl! You use kisses to play with boys?”
Shen Meng Jie shrugged. “I feel like we’re the same kind of people.”
“We’re not the same,” Dragon Brother denied, looking at Shen Meng Jie as if she had suggested pineapple on pizza.
For her, this was just an opportunity, a peek behind the curtain, realizing that he was just a fraction more morally upright than herself. So normally, he maintained a respectable distance from the opposite s*x, deftly balancing intimacy, and charmingly appearing flawless.
Before witnessing that scene, Shen Meng Jie had believed the same. But now, armed with this secret, Dragon Brother seemed a bit more down-to-earth. All she needed to do was stretch her toes, and she could reach out and touch him
It was a bizarre sensation, like solving a math problem someone else had cracked for you. All she had to do was jot down the answer and she’d still score points in the end, right?
“If you didn’t like it, I won’t do it again next time,” Shen Meng Jie conceded, knowing when to soften her stance. A little humility goes a long way in swaying a man’s heartstrings.
When it came to matters between men and women, she was the expert of all experts.
No one is perfect—if there was such a person, they’d be beyond fake.
Dragon Brother was just right—complex, mysterious, moral, responsible—basically the perfect boyfriend material.
Once a person like him owed you a favor, they’d come through in the end…
“If there’s a next time, I’ll definitely tell Huang Fei!”
Shen Meng Jie nodded in feigned shame, “Got it.”
Honestly, no one could say whether Shen Meng Jie would change her ways, but at least she started off on the right foot.
All morning, things seemed calm, as if everything was meant to be so bland.
…
Come afternoon, Lin Wan Ning and her dorm mates headed out in search of some refreshing fruit tea.
“Wan Ning, you really need to share your cosmetics secrets! What brand are you using?”
Lin Wan Ning’s fair skin glowed after last night—it was practically the envy of every girl around. It added an unexplainable softness to her originally icy demeanor.
Gently stroking her own cheek, Lin Wan Ning shrugged, “Honestly, I’m not using any! We all live in the same dorm—how could I hide something from you?”
As they chatted, they spotted someone approaching.
All four girls stopped in their tracks.
Upon seeing the woman in front of her, Lin Wan Ning frowned slightly, “What do you want?”
Lin Wan Ning had a deep-seated dislike for this woman.
Unfazed by Lin Wan Ning’s frown, Shen Meng Jie chuckled lightly, “Can we chat?”
“We?” Lin Wan Ning confirmed.
“Yep.”
“What do you want to chat about?”
“Trust me, it’ll definitely pique your interest.”
With that blatant hint, Lin Wan Ning figured Shen Meng Jie had an agenda and it sparked a sliver of curiosity in her.
Turning to her dorm mates, she said, “You guys go ahead.”
The three friends exchanged glances between Lin Wan Ning and the stunning Shen Meng Jie, nodded, and said, “Alright, just come back soon. We’ll get you a drink!”
Shen Meng Jie turned to leave, and Lin Wan Ning followed her, tracking her through the campus pathways.
They paused at a bench.
Cutting straight to the chase, Shen Meng Jie said, “You like Dragon Brother, don’t you?”
Lin Wan Ning frowned lightly. Since she hadn’t figured out Shen Meng Jie’s intentions yet, she simply chuckled softly, “If that’s what you’re here for, I’m afraid I’m not that interested.”
“Then how about this?” Shen Meng Jie said as she angled her phone screen toward Lin Wan Ning.
The moment Lin Wan Ning saw the photo on the screen, her smile vanished faster than a magician’s rabbit.
Shen Meng Jie noticed the shift in Lin Wan Ning’s expression and smirked, “Now can we talk?”
Lin Wan Ning shot a sidelong glance at Shen Meng Jie’s phone, then suddenly smiled—a rare sight; she didn’t typically laugh much, but this moment made it truly radiant.
Confronted with Lin Wan Ning’s unexpected smile, Shen Meng Jie felt a bit confused. “What are you laughing at?”
“I’m laughing at how a little silly you are,” Lin Wan Ning replied, her voice as cool as melting snow atop a mountain, crisp yet slightly biting.
“Did you really kiss my brother?” Lin Wan Ning returned the question with brutal honesty.
“Isn’t that evidence enough?” Shen Meng Jie waved her phone.
Fixing her gaze on the screen, Lin Wan Ning said calmly, “My brother is the kind of guy who cares for the women he likes, which means if it were him, he’d lean down.”
Lin Wan Ning vividly remembered every detail of her first kiss with Dragon Brother. She had pulled him down, faking some hushed secrets, needing to tiptoe just to reach him.
But if he had been the one initiating it, there’d be no more need for tiptoeing.
In the photo, Dragon Brother stood upright, helmet in hand, while Shen Meng Jie was the one on tiptoes, trying to wrap her arms around his neck and pushing her head back—clearly showing this was all her doing.
Upon hearing Lin Wan Ning’s words, the playful grin faded from Shen Meng Jie’s face; she had indeed overlooked that detail.
Seeing Lin Wan Ning slowly standing up, she said, “He doesn’t like you, so there’s no need to waste your efforts.”
“Don’t doubt it. I know my brother, and I know him better than you do…”
As Lin Wan Ning walked away, Shen Meng Jie suddenly found herself feeling a little ridiculous.
She had come to gauge Lin Wan Ning’s feelings, but it seemed like she wasn’t just rational—she was off the charts rational for a woman.
Most people would’ve freaked out at a photo like that, rather than analyze it like Lin Wan Ning did.
But here was this completely rational girl, who ended up doing such a thing, making it all seem rather contradictory.
One thing still puzzled Shen Meng Jie, however. In the words Lin Wan Ning spoke, there was a palpable respect and protection for someone else…
