Chapter 350: So, Should I Go Wash the Vegetables?
Shoving her phone into her pocket, she decided to ignore it.
As long as she knew what was going on, the rest was irrelevant.
With the time it took to squabble with Ye Liang Chen, they were already at Hu Yu Ying’s place.
“Shall we go find Ah Ying? It feels extra chilly today.” Li Qing Xue huddled her neck and shivered.
Lin Wan Ning instinctively shook her head. She thought that Ah Ying probably had a lot she wanted to say to Dragon Brother right now, so it wouldn’t be suitable for them to drop by.
“What’s wrong?” Li Qing Xue asked.
After pondering for a moment, Lin Wan Ning said, “We can’t just keep interrupting their little world, can we?”
“After all, big brother has a lot of energy, and who knows, they could be… you know…”
Li Qing Xue narrowed her eyes, a mischievous grin spreading across her face. “Wan Ning, you’re really dropping these spicy takes left and right.”
But upon reflection, it did make sense. Ever since Dragon Brother rented his place, they almost had a base every weekend.
Before they knew it, they’d transformed that place into a home.
However, they overlooked that Dragon Brother and Hu Yu Ying also needed their own space.
With that thought, the idea of visiting Ah Ying vanished. Suddenly, it felt like there was nowhere else to go.
Going back to the school dorm would be a waste of this wonderful weekend.
She tightened her jacket and sniffed her frozen red nose. “What about we just go book a room?”
Lin Wan Ning thought this suggestion was splendid. She wasn’t too keen on heading back to the dorm either.
The dorm had too many people, and while she had been getting along well with her roommates lately, there was simply more freedom in having a room of their own.
Just as they were about to head off to book a room, their phones chimed simultaneously.
Lin Wan Ning pulled out her phone and took a peek; it was a group chat with the three little ones.
Hu Yu Ying: @Wan Ning, @Qing Xue, lunch is at home.
Seeing this message, Li Qing Xue beamed and said, “See? I knew Ah Ying wouldn’t forget us.”
She was even more determined to help Ah Ying teach Dragon Brother a lesson. That rascal! Stealing Wan Ning away? Just wait, I’ll make sure you’re never tempted again—only be nice to Ah Ying from now on!
Lin Wan Ning held her phone against her chest, looked up at the sky, and thought, it’s cold today, but her heart felt warm.
It was like a lost person suddenly finding their way.
Frequenting for free meals, the two of them decided to take charge of grocery shopping.
Reading through Ah Ying’s list of needed ingredients and prices, Li Qing Xue stifled a giggle. “Ah Ying is way too thrifty!”
Lin Wan Ning poked her forehead with her finger. “You don’t know how expensive groceries are when you’re not the one paying.”
“This sister is the real deal when it comes to managing life!” Li Qing Xue winked.
“Sister?”
“Surprised? Considering how much we’ve been taken care of, isn’t it only right to call me sister?” Lin Wan Ning blushed a little but maintained her cool demeanor as she bantered.
“Then if I bake cookies for you in the future, you’ll have to call me sister, or I won’t share them, you noodle-gobbling fool!” Li Qing Xue rejoiced in her cookie-baking prowess, which was a slight edge over Lin Wan Ning’s instant noodles.
“Yeah, let me tickle you instead for making fun of my noodle skills!” Lin Wan Ning declared, ready for action.
Having been worn out by her brother the previous night, Li Qing Xue was finally able to fight back this time—only to end up squealing with laughter and begging for mercy.
It wasn’t until they hopped into a taxi that Lin Wan Ning finally spared Li Qing Xue.
“Wan Ning, you wait! One day, I’ll make you regret everything you did to me today!” Li Qing Xue huffed, still simmering, even after begging for leniency.
“I’ll be waiting for that day, but hurry it up; otherwise, I’ll forget!” Lin Wan Ning teased, poking her finger at the soft flesh of Li Qing Xue’s cheek.
Not seeing how much Lin Wan Ning cared, Li Qing Xue sulked inwardly.
Just wait until I catch you two sneaking around! I’ll spank you and wipe Dragon Brother’s face with the floor…
“If only we had met a little earlier.” Honestly, she loved being with Ah Ying and Qing Xue so much.
Li Qing Xue huffed again. “I wouldn’t want to meet you any sooner!” She tossed her short hair aside. “But you can lean on my shoulder.”
“Such a tsundere!” Lin Wan Ning rolled her eyes but couldn’t help but smile, slowly leaning against Li Qing Xue’s shoulder.
Feeling Lin Wan Ning resting her head, Li Qing Xue turned to look out the window, her smile shining brightly.
Before long, they arrived at the vegetable market near Ah Ying’s place. Since she’d come here with Ah Ying before, she knew the way.
“How much for this veggie?”
“One-fifty.”
Hearing that price, Li Qing Xue and Lin Wan Ning exchanged glances.
Then they whispered, “But others are selling it for one-thirty…”
After muttering that, they sneaked another peek at the vegetable vendor.
The vendor, amused at the sight of the two charming little girls whispering and glancing at him, chuckled, “Since it’s chilly, prices are going up—but for you, one-thirty is fine…”
After taking the veggies and making their payment, the two girls high-fived. “Price negotiation success!”
“Yay! We’re pretty awesome…”
Happily carrying their vegetables, they headed toward their rented apartment.
There wasn’t much to cheer about concerning negotiating prices, but the first successful haggle felt pretty darn good.
They pushed open the big door and stepped into the courtyard.
And there, they spotted Dragon Brother squatting by the firewood and Hu Yu Ying roasting herself at a makeshift stove.
Li Qing Xue couldn’t shake the feeling that, for some reason, today’s atmosphere was just a tad bit oppressive.
Lin Wan Ning shot a glance at her brother, bit her lip, and restrained herself from looking at him. She silently prayed for him, then walked over to Hu Yu Ying with the groceries. “Sister, we’ve bought everything.”
Hu Yu Ying gave a subtle nod, then looked over at Dragon Brother, rolling her eyes dramatically.
Seeing this, Dragon Brother quickly dropped the firewood and scampered over to Hu Yu Ying, gently tugging at her sleeve. “Should I go wash the vegetables?”
At that, Li Qing Xue burst into laughter.
Dragon Brother shot a look at the chuckling Li Qing Xue and shook his fist, as if to say, “Still laughing, huh? Just wait until I punch you!”
Li Qing Xue wasn’t afraid, though. She proudly lifted her chin and seemed to say, “Hmph! I know your secret, so I’m not worried!”
Dragon Brother raised an eyebrow but noticed the little girl’s smile creeping at the corners of her mouth.
So he softly tugged at Hu Yu Ying’s sleeve again. “Then, should I go wash the vegetables?”
With a playful bite of her lip to hide a smile, Hu Yu Ying responded, “You’ve asked that twice now.”
Seeing Hu Yu Ying’s reaction, Dragon Brother chuckled and picked up the ingredients. “Alright then.”
Li Qing Xue gently nudged Lin Wan Ning. “What’s up with Dragon Brother? Washing vegetables makes him this happy?”
Lin Wan Ning smiled at Dragon Brother. “Let adults handle their matters, little girl…”
Li Qing Xue rolled her eyes. “Who do you think you’re looking down on? Just wait! When I become a woman, you’ll be shocked…”
