Becoming a Fierce Ghost, I Turned into the Shadow Behind the Heroine – Chapter 66

Chapter Sixty-Six: Lu Liangting, You *!

Who the heck is Chen Yun? Bai Yu had no clue.

What she did know was that the woman she had just caught was about to shove a ghost’s grudge into Zhao Mingyue’s body. For a living person, that was basically a d*ath sentence. Clearly, this person’s heart was as black as night.

“Mingyue.”

“I’m here.” Zhao Mingyue responded lightly when she heard Bai Yu calling her name.

In reality, she hadn’t been under control for long. Chen Yun’s attack wouldn’t hit her—it didn’t matter if Bai Yu didn’t show up; she could put up a good fight anyway.

Of course, it was great that Bai Yu had come to the rescue—better safe than sorry!

“Turn around.”

“Ah?” Zhao Mingyue blinked, a little puzzled, but obeyed dutifully.

Splat!

A sprinkle of bl**d flew out as Chen Yun’s pupils dilated in shock.

She hadn’t even seen her attacker coming! All she felt was something slice across her throat, and just as that warm liquid started flowing out, a stab of pain from her neck shot through her.

Her breathing sounded like an old, leaky bag—that awful sensation of deflating without being able to fill up again, as her life force drained away rapidly.

She collapsed to the ground, her eyes rolling back. She saw the ghost pick up her talisman with a hand that was melting away from burns, calmly examining it as if it were nothing. Not a single change in expression!

Chills ran down her spine, though she couldn’t tell if it was fear or bl**d loss.

She knew well how much pain and damage such talismans would cause a ghost. Just being a meter away would bring unbearable agony, and making eye contact would lead to mental collapse.

And yet, this ghost was just staring blankly at her, seemingly pondering something as the power of the talisman slowly faded and disintegrated into ashes.

That ghost was now watching her hand—half-corroded and yet somehow healing itself, bl**d threads swirling and intertwining to mend it back together.

Chen Yun felt her brain start to slow down, and suddenly, the ghost turned its gaze toward her.

Her pupils shrank. It was too late to close her eyes.

Splat!

A crystalline thread of bl**d burst forth from her chest, right where her heart was. A perfect lethal strike!

A slice to the throat and a stab to the heart—two fatal hits! Bai Yu didn’t bother with Chen Yun anymore; she squeezed her now-corroded hand. It felt fine to her, just a loss of some internal bl**d threads.

“This thing isn’t simple. It’s like some power passed through the talisman and symbols to harm the ghost.”

“Talismans… So this must be the Chen Yun that Lu Liangting mentioned, one of the game participants.”

Bai Yu hadn’t expected to find Chen Yun so easily and take her down so effortlessly.

But honestly, she was more curious about where this talisman came from.

Did Chen Yun draw it herself?

If so, she was weaker than she thought—who would lend her power?

Zhao Mingyue hesitated for a moment. At Bai Yu’s prompting, she ignored Chen Yun and went over to remove the dance shoes off the female corpse’s feet. Bai Yu prepared to fill them with some bl**d threads before she wore them.

Maybe because the ghost had been taken care of early, when Zhao Mingyue slipped on the shoes, nothing happened, which meant she’d succeeded. They even gave her a little speed boost!

“Are we just walking out like this?” At the staircase, Zhao Mingyue turned back to glance at Chen Yun.

“Yup, let’s go.”

“I meant, should we not finish her off or something?”

“No need.”

“Cough, cough.” Zhao Mingyue felt her own suggestion was a bit off, so she cleared her throat to change the subject. “There are a few ghosts coming this way.”

“No problem, someone can handle it.”

Shen Shuyun was also brought over. Mainly, Bai Yu wanted to see how she had changed, along with dealing with those ghostly parents.

Zhao Mingyue had other tasks to attend to, filling Bai Yu in on her experiences at the Youth Palace along the way.

She must’ve been pretty scared, but thinking about her future gave her the motivation she needed.

“I really have to thank Miss Rabbit this time; she gave me courage.”

Pulling out the rabbit plush toy from her pocket, she gave it a smack and cheerfully asked, “What about you? Did you guys gain anything over there?”

“Got some gains, but I won’t know what they are until we’re out.”

Naturally, the gains were Shen Shuyun’s memories.

That counted as completing the mission, but what the reward would be, Bai Yu didn’t know yet.

Honestly, whether there was a reward or not didn’t matter; what mattered was the experience itself.

If every game participant has a memory like this, it would be quite interesting.

“Who’s there!”

On the third floor of the Youth Palace, Lu Liangting stepped up to find someone lying on the ground, and when the flashlight’s beam landed on it, he discovered it was a corpse!

And when he saw the face of this “corpse,” he nearly lost it.

“Chen Yun!”

Looking at Chen Yun with her throat and heart slashed open, Lu Liangting felt a chill creeping up his spine.

Was Chen Yun just lucky? With such horrific injuries, she was still not dead!

Realizing this, he hurriedly took out his medical kit, wanting to perform first aid. To him, it was a stroke of luck for Chen Yun. And indeed, it was; her heart was on the right side—different from the norm. As for the wound on her throat, there was a lump of black, putrid bl**d covering it.

This lump of foul, black bl**d was sustaining Chen Yun’s last thread of life, blocking the fatal injury to her throat.

And then, as luck would have it…

While performing first aid, Lu Liangting noticed this bl**d clot and instinctively thought it was left by the “murderer.” Frowning, he went ahead and cleaned it up.

That final breath Chen Yun had been clinging to vanished just like that.

She lost consciousness due to bl**d loss. If she knew Lu Liangting had inadvertently removed her lifeline while trying to save her, she would probably spit out a couple more mouthfuls of bl**d!

Meanwhile, Lu Liangting, the “murderer,” was silent, clenching his fists tightly.

Twice, it had happened twice.

The first time at the Sunshine Apartment when Xia Han was killed.

And now, his friend Chen Yun died at the mission location.

The residual warmth faded into nothing before the ambulance even arrived, bringing her to a complete silence in his arms.

The clues left for him were nothing but that black, putrid bl**d clot.

This thing absolutely wasn’t from Chen Yun; she had just been murdered, which meant this couldn’t possibly be fresh bl**d.

“Worm?”

Squashing the bl**d clot, Lu Liangting discovered a squirming black worm inside.

He didn’t feel disgusted by the bl**d-covered creature and wrapped it in a cloth, tucking it away close to his body.

To him, this was the only clue to find the murderer.
