**Chapter 143: Bai Yu’s Memories**
Fingers gently glided over delicate, snowy skin, teasing and savoring the silkiness that felt as smooth as milk. Cold, yet lacking any hint of irritation in its temperature, with just a little pressure, the soft elasticity beneath her palm made Zhao Mingyue wonder how many times she had marveled in her heart at this enchanting sight.
Truly, it was too perfect to resist! While the skin of other ghosts was often withered and cracked, how on earth did Yu-chan, as a ghost, manage to be more “alive” than the living?
Right now, her hands had roamed down to Bai Yu’s waist.
I mean, icy flesh hides jade bones, a slender waist perfect for a gentle grip.
This undeveloped figure sparked an insatiable curiosity in her heart, mixed with an indescribable urge to destroy. Honestly, she could almost believe that this wasn’t a ghost at all—if someone told her this was a snake spirit, she’d have zero doubts.
Perhaps only legendary snake spirits or fox spirits could possess the charm that Bai Yu did?
Forget about men—this woman was tempted as well!
Well, it’s definitely not her fault; it’s all Yu-chan’s irresistible allure!
It was practically pulling her towards crime!
Wait a minute, wouldn’t it be illegal to invade a minor ghost’s privacy?
Three years of bl**d-soaked wealth hadn’t resulted in a d*ath sentence that applied to ghosts, right? Can the human justice system really judge someone for having a thing for loli, or even reach out to a female ghost?
Clearly, it couldn’t!
With that thought, Zhao Mingyue’s eyes lit up and her grip unintentionally tightened.
No one’s here to save you tonight; just obediently let me devour you whole!
Of course, she only thought that.
Under the covers, Bai Yu, dressed in rabbit pajamas, lay beside Zhao Mingyue’s pillow.
This was her first time sleeping in Zhao Mingyue’s bed, sharing warm blankets.
It was all because of what she said when she came out of the shower.
And that very statement gave Zhao Mingyue her excuse to get all handsy—if only she could mention one thing: four words precisely.
“Suppress the Evil God.”
She had originally planned to talk more as a justification, but now she hardly wanted to utter a single word—everything was crammed into four little words. Bai Yu even suspected that if she continued the conversation, those four words would dwindle down to two or three!
Grabbing the small hand sneaking inside her clothes, Bai Yu sighed, “Honestly, it’s not like you need to always touch me. Just being within a certain range does the trick too.”
“Uh-huh, I know! But, pulling away to avoid contact, and direct contact—totally not the same! There’s gotta be a difference!” Zhao Mingyue continued her feeble defense.
“Well, it’s late; you can sleep now.”
“Okay, okay, but can I hug you while I sleep?”
“No way!”
“Tsk, so stingy.”
Now Bai Yu really was exasperated. If it weren’t for the Evil God, she would’ve never ended up snuggled in the same bed as Zhao Mingyue. People and ghosts are different; no matter how much she tried to act human, at the core, she was still a ghost. Zhao Mingyue getting close to her would cause her temperature to drop, leading to all sorts of illnesses—after all, people wouldn’t age prematurely if not for her ghostly presence.
There were plenty of downsides to this; just imagine—a ghost sleeping in a blanket is like having a block of ice tucked under the covers! How could anyone expect to stay cozy? A night spent like this and not catching a cold would be a miracle!
Thank goodness it was summer; winter would definitely be a no-go!
As Zhao Mingyue put it, she didn’t even need air conditioning at night.
After tossing and turning half the night, Zhao Mingyue finally drifted off. Bai Yu leaned against the headboard, doing her best to move away, but alas! Zhao Mingyue’s hand was like it had GPS, always landing on her belly under her pajamas. If it weren’t for Zhao Mingyue starting to drool in her sleep, Bai Yu would’ve thought she was just pretending.
Late into the night, Bai Yu continued meditating, but at some point, she felt her eyelids getting heavier, a wave of drowsiness washing over her.
This unexpected sleepiness jolted Bai Yu back to clarity, and she opened her eyes to look at the person beside her.
Getting drowsy late at night seemed like a normal thing.
The problem? She was a ghost!
Since becoming a ghost, she had never felt tired or slept; nighttime was for meditating instead. Sleep and dreams didn’t belong in a ghost’s world!
Such an abnormal circumstance made her uneasy, and the only possible source of the problem was that Evil God within Zhao Mingyue.
This Evil God represented “heart” and had likely something to do with consciousness, fantasy, or memory. If that was the case, then it would be completely normal for a ghost to dream.
“It seems this Evil God has awakened more than I thought, regaining some awareness, but trying to act on that sheer awareness against me?” Bai Yu pondered.
“Evil Gods often k*ll with curses and malice; their spread and efficiency are incomparable to that of the Red Clothes, but evil powers mostly stem from this.”
“The curse of A She Godmother comes from sound, so the Evil God related to ‘ear’ has a similar ability.”
“What about the heart? Does it peer into memories and k*ll me within those memories…?”
“Or is it about wanting something? For instance, this Evil God’s name; merely thinking about it could trigger a curse, and the more often it is recalled, the stronger the curse becomes.”
Four Evil Gods: one who can’t talk, one who can’t hear, one who can’t be looked at. What about the last one?
Bai Yu leaned towards both methods being possible; invading memories should be basic.
Hugging her rabbit plush toy, Bai Yu glanced down at those red button eyes, narrowing her own slightly. She now had a bold idea—if it worked, at least it could deal a significant blow to this Evil God, sending it back to its slumber.
“Over here with Mingyue, nothing’s going to happen for now. The Evil God hasn’t fully revived; Zhao Mingyue’s body is like its lifeline. If Mingyue dies, it dies too.”
Releasing a few bl**d threads as insurance, just in case something did go awry and she needed to wake Zhao Mingyue promptly, Bai Yu reasoned that during this timeframe, if anyone attacked Zhao Mingyue, those threads could also come to her defense.
Taking a small precaution, Bai Yu closed her eyes and actively invited the curse’s power to invade her body, penetrating her memories.
This curse, in essence, was similar to the ghostly bl**d threads; it could be used to k*ll but could also harm the host if manipulated by enemies.
“Memories, huh…”
Bai Yu drifted off, unaware of which memories the Evil God would choose to invade. If it happened to be that old monastery, well, that would just mean this entity was asking for trouble.
She didn’t think the Evil God would possess enough power to sift through all her memories; it was bound to strike at specific, emotional moments.
If it built a dream upon her memories and then attempted to eliminate her consciousness within that dream, then clearly, this Evil God was quite limited.
If it truly could traverse back to her past, how could such a being possibly be fixated on Zhao Mingyue’s body? How powerful would the enemy have to be to inflict serious harm on her?
As her final fragment of consciousness slipped away into sleep, Zhao Mingyue, lying next to Bai Yu, felt her eyelids flicker. Yet, she still couldn’t exert control over her own body; Zhao Mingyue was far stronger than Bai Yu had imagined—both in physical fitness and soul strength.
Just as Bai Yu thought, that Evil God had indeed awakened a bit; though its head was foggy, it knew exactly what it wanted.
Eliminating Bai Yu, the greatest obstacle, was now at the forefront of its mission.
The Evil God named “Burning Heart Goddess,” was the leader among the four malevolent deities.
Watching Bai Yu fall victim to its curse, the Burning Heart Goddess began to utilize the leftover curse power to locate Bai Yu’s memory nodes.
As Bai Yu had predicted, she was unable to access all memories. Instead, she could only search for the crucial moments packed within the waves of memories. Joyful memories? Those were definitely off-limits because Bai Yu’s power was greatest within those.
Therefore, she had to seek out the moments that held nothing but fear for Bai Yu.
In the next instant, the Goddess was stunned, for she realized that this ghost’s situation was indeed slightly off from her assumptions. If Bai Yu’s memories were compared to an ocean, then the nodes equated to ripples; her memory ocean was like a tranquil pond. Not only could she not find a single wave of fear, but even the tiniest hint of terror was absent.
A glance, and everything was calm.
The Goddess fell silent.
Could this ghost have lived her life—or even afterlife—without ever encountering fear?
Was her existence really that mundane?
Yes, mundane.
To the Goddess, that was how it appeared. Instead of seeing with her eyes, she accelerated Bai Yu’s memories to experience the emotional changes—a way to decide whether to use that memory to end Bai Yu’s existence.
After experiencing so many emotions, she found that Bai Yu’s psychological changes were practically non-existent—no joy, no happiness, no sorrow, no anger.
‘What a pitiful life; did you spend it all in a cage?’
Having scoured through so long without encountering a single emotional peak, the Goddess decided to slow her pace and put considerable effort into feeling Bai Yu’s emotions while also assessing her thoughts at those moments.
Then…
“Second aide to General Shaman, unaware of any intelligence? What a pity, just eliminate it.”
“Branch of the Red Forest tribe, number of people—178, all warriors from the Red Forest tribe. Tread carefully, feel free to k*ll them; the benefits outweigh the disadvantages.”
“Princess Xierna, alias Scorpion Beauty; very troublesome. If I let her go, I’ll face complications; the intelligence is half true. k*ll her.”
“Fang Tiandi, Minister of Education, forthright personality and impressive strength—might consider teaming up.”
“I’ve won nine matches in the arena of the Tianxing clan; they wouldn’t want me to win. The tenth will surely be the ancient dragon of calamity; I reckon only 50% chance. Just k*ll my way out.”
“Ugh, and this Dragon Lady; truly annoying.”
Having not heard much about Bai Yu’s thoughts from her memories, the Goddess experienced subtle shifts in her expression.
Just as she started to doubt the authenticity of these events, a sudden realization hit her.
If everything before was calm, this was a real tidal wave!
A storm laden with every conceivable negative emotion—pain, fear, despair, rage, and resentment.
‘What on earth happened in this memory to trigger such despair?’
‘Let me find out.’
