Chapter 147: Look Closely, This is How Bai Yu Uses It!
Zhao Mingyue couldn’t shake the feeling that Teacher Chen’s smile seemed a bit… odd, like it was hiding something deep. But she couldn’t quite put her finger on what was off. After all, she didn’t know this teacher before today, so it made sense to be called out like this.
After summoning Zhao Mingyue, Teacher Chen didn’t linger, turning back to the rest of the class to discuss some recent plans, and the classroom quickly returned to its usual chaos.
Teacher Chen was definitely professional; his experience rivaled that of the seasoned old-timers.
“Bai Yu, do you think your old friends would have a teacher like that?”
“Not sure.”
“Well, how about the one at the podium? Doesn’t he remind you of your old friends?”
Zhao Mingyue picked up on something, concluding that anyone who seemed peculiar—especially women—could be linked to Bai Yu’s old acquaintances.
“Could be that way, but I can’t be sure; I haven’t interacted with them much,” Bai Yu offered an honest reply. This Teacher Chen seemed highly experienced and didn’t give away anything suspicious.
“Alright then.”
The morning flew by, and aside from Teacher Chen’s antics, nothing else happened.
“Let’s go, Lu Liangting. Let’s visit Feng Er at the hospital.”
After school, Zhao Mingyue patted Lu Liangting on the shoulder from behind. With her little backpack on, she stepped alongside him.
“Sure! We can take the bus to the hospital; it’s all set. Feng Er was admitted last night, and a nurse is taking care of her injuries.”
Lu Liangting nodded. He had left his flashy car behind today; it was too ostentatious. He just wanted to be an ordinary student and avoid drawing unnecessary attention. He had learned this lesson the hard way when a previous attempt led to eight girls asking for his contact info, three trying to flirt, and two slipping him love letters—all because he had driven his sports car after his usual ride didn’t show.
It was as if these girls knew him well, when he didn’t even know their names!
He had been sporting a mask at the time, and two girls from a different school approached, declaring, “You’re just my type!”
Honestly, he had no idea how a masked face could appeal to someone.
“You don’t seem too well today. Did you not get enough rest last night?” While waiting for the bus, Zhao Mingyue glanced at Lu Liangting and noticed the bloodshot look in his eyes. He looked utterly drained.
“Uh, guess I just didn’t sleep well.” Lu Liangting gave a wry smile, remembering last night’s antics.
He had managed to keep things under control between the two “Red-clothed” entities for today, but what about the future?
With one relying on Bai Yu and the other on Feng Er, what if one day these two Red-clothed beings realized that he was just bluffing them? That would be trouble.
After a brief silence, Lu Liangting suddenly spoke up, “Uh, Mingyue.”
“Yeah?”
“I wanted to ask you about how you, um… interact with Bai Yu.”
“What? You want tips from me on how to handle Bai Yu?” Zhao Mingyue blinked, a giant question mark floating above her head.
“Sort of; I don’t need everything, just a few pointers.” Lu Liangting scratched his head. He wasn’t usually at a loss for words, but this conversation felt different. After all, admitting his sleepless night was a bit embarrassing when he spent it watching those two Red-clothed beings bicker and fight it out.
What if he woke up the next day and found only one of them remaining? Much like how Bai Yu could easily devour a Red-clothed being in just a few bites.
But thankfully, both Red-clothed entities were intact, merely worn out from each other. There were no real injuries.
Even after all that shouting and chaos, no clear winner emerged. Just a couple of tired combatants.
From Lu Liangting’s weary eyes and bitter smile, Zhao Mingyue sensed something was amiss.
“Me and Bai Yu?” Touching her chin, she pondered for a moment, “Well, we just chat a little, take showers together at night. I help her dry her hair, change her clothes, style her hair, and we sleep together. It’s just ordinary day-to-day stuff.”
“Ordinary? Really?”
Lu Liangting’s face went rigid, shock plastered all over it, like a deer caught in headlights.
You call THAT ordinary? Sharing a shower with a top-tier Red-clothed Evil Ghost every single night, helping her dry off and style her hair?
That’s not an evil ghost; that’s a freaking doll!
What do Bai Yu and a doll have in common other than their similarity in appearance?
He couldn’t wrap his head around the reality because his idea of Bai Yu was completely different.
To him, Bai Yu was powerful, cold, petite, ruthless—quick to draw a blade on any ghost and single-handedly handling all Red-clothed beings without breaking a sweat.
And in everyday life, she was just… a doll?
No, that wasn’t the main point.
The main point was friendship—living in mundane peace meant they could grow closer.
Was that what she meant? That small moments together foster a friendship that’s more like family?
‘Seeing evil ghosts as friends and slowly becoming family, huh?’
‘So that’s it! I’ve been utterly mistaken! It shouldn’t be about mutual exploitation for benefits.’
‘But I don’t view Old Yang like that—I see him more as a companion.’
‘Maybe I just haven’t grown close enough; my relationship with him feels distant, and that breeds misunderstandings.’
‘Evil ghosts can be quite simple-minded, consumed by their obsessions. Recently, Old Yang seems to have woken up a lot, but he’s still not normal.’
‘It’s sincerity and actions that they remember. Their connections are pure and straightforward.’
As he sat on the bus, Lu Liangting was buried in these thoughts, quiet as a mouse.
Even if Zhao Mingyue and Bai Yu’s relationship felt just a smidgen… off to him, he still felt like he had a revelation.
‘Ohhhh, I see now!’
‘Bai Yu must be much harder to approach than Old Yang. Mingyue’s success comes from her pure intentions, treating Bai Yu like family.’
‘In this way, Bai Yu gains bonds and attachment, a resting place for her empty soul, and Mingyue gains a true family member’s companionship.’
‘It’s no wonder Bai Yu keeps a cold demeanor towards everyone besides Zhao Mingyue!’
With an exasperated sigh, Lu Liangting felt significantly lighter and more comfortable.
But just as he felt enlightened, another question crept in.
Old Yang could be managed, but what about Aunt Su?
Aunt Su was an evil ghost, and a ghost with a daughter and son, no less!
‘Where’s my head? Is shower time really the focus here? The real key lies in sincerity!’
Chills ran down his spine at the thought, and he mentally addressed Old Yang.
“Sorry about my attitude this morning, Old Yang. That was on me. I’ll take you to visit your grandma later and maybe pick up some supplements for her.”
“Huh?”
“Nothing. Just had some thoughts.”
“Well, I must congratulate you then; how impressive!” Old Yang’s tone dripped with sarcasm.
“Not bad, but I think we need to reevaluate our relationship.”
“What relationship?”
“There will be one!”
“……”
Old Yang didn’t respond, a strange feeling nagging at him. It was like Lu Liangting had undergone some transformation. He couldn’t tell if this was a good or bad thing, but it definitely felt off.
This kid was clearly rattled, likely from that girl, Zhao Mingyue.
Her words were completely opposite of what Bai Yu represented; how could they get along so smoothly?
In Lu Liangting’s ears, this would probably sound something like:
“Look at this, Lu Liangting. This is how Bai Yu operates!”
But of course, he could only keep that to himself. He wouldn’t dare share it, afraid that it might slip out of his mouth and provoke Bai Yu into storming in and taking him out.
Clearly, he had entered a phase of heightened awareness. What odd and bizarre ideas he was entertaining!
This was his first time being this clear-headed after becoming a ghost. He really owed it to Lu Liangting.
Old Yang’s thoughts were lost on Lu Liangting, who at that moment was staring down, noticing Zhao Mingyue’s shadow cast on the ground. Except… that shadow didn’t quite resemble her; it looked more like Bai Yu…
He had a hunch that Bai Yu was probably lurking in Zhao Mingyue’s shadow right now.

Arriving at the hospital, Lu Liangting led the way to a luxurious private patient room.
This room was solely occupied by Feng Er, way fancier than your average hospital stay—like a hotel suite!
Zhao Mingyue couldn’t help but marvel at how the wealthy lived; it was out of reach for ordinary folks. Even hospitalization had perks that felt worlds apart.
“Lu Gege, Zhao Jie!”
Lying on the hospital bed, Feng Er struggled to sit up when she spotted Zhao Mingyue and Lu Liangting. All her injuries had been tended to, her body all wrapped up.
“Just lay down and rest; no need to get up. Here’s your lunch—some lean meat porridge,” Lu Liangting placed the meal on a small table. He intended to feed her personally, but Feng Er insisted on doing it herself.
“Uh, where’s the other sister?” Feng Er quietly inquired, spoon in the bowl.
“Another sister?” Lu Liangting hesitated, suddenly thinking of Bai Yu. “She didn’t come today, but she’ll be here tonight to visit you.”
“Thanks, Lu Gege!”
Relieved, Lu Liangting felt good about saving his little sister’s friend. If Lu Nianqiu found out, she would probably be ecstatic.
“No problem. Just focus on your recovery.”
“Yeah, take care of yourself. Sister Bai told me to let you know that getting better is the key!”
Zhao Mingyue reached out to pet the little girl’s head but was stopped by Bai Yu.
Feng Er’s body was fragile, so it was better not to touch her for now.
“Right, I’ll recover and be as amazing as Sister Bai!” The little girl raised her spoon. However, Zhao Mingyue and Lu Liangting didn’t take her declaration seriously; kids often idolized heroes and forgot those dreams later.
What they didn’t know was that Feng Er was genuinely determined.
After a little more chat with Feng Er, Zhao Mingyue stepped out of the room.
“Feng Er’s doing alright. If we had arrived a few days late, her wounds could’ve easily gotten infected! Thankfully, she’s stable. The doctors say she should stay for about a month.”
“I’ve already contacted Zhizi to arrange for her school. Once she’s released, she can go back to her previous school.”
“She doesn’t like the elite schools; her old one is actually pretty underfunded, but the atmosphere is perfect for Feng Er’s situation.”
Lu Liangting briefly explained Feng Er’s situation. Zhao Mingyue furrowed her brow, “What about her living expenses and tuition? Let me chip in; I have some money available.”
“It’s fine; if I can handle it with money, it’s not a problem. You don’t need to worry.”
Zhao Mingyue understood his words had no ulterior motive but still found them a bit annoying.
And to be honest, it was refreshingly genuine of Lu Liangting. For him, problems were only problems if money couldn’t solve them.
“Okay, then I’m counting on you.”
After leaving the hospital, Zhao Mingyue took the bus to a convenience store where she planned to help out for a couple of hours during her break.
In no time, she arrived and pushed the door open.
Ding-a-ling~
Awakened by the sound, Manager Li stood up from where he was wiping shelves.
“Hey Mingyue, you’re here!”
“Yep, thanks for your hard work, Manager!”
“It’s all good. I wanted to ask you a few things about some tasks,” Manager Li casually tossed two drinks onto the counter, his usual choice of kvass and cocktails replaced by two yogurts today.
Once Zhao Mingyue changed into her work uniform, she sat across from Manager Li in the break area.
“So Mingyue, how’s everything? Is it really tricky?”
“Manager, if you’re asking that, I can only say it’s extremely tricky. The situation is nothing like what you described.” Zhao Mingyue felt a lot of helplessness as she said this.
Initially assured that there were no issues, she ended up facing a melee of Red-clothed beings. By the end, they’d encountered five of them on site, with one already down and two still left clinging to their lives.
That totaled up to eight Red-clothed beings, which was just absurd.
She suddenly thought back—was that drink from yesterday the reason Manager Li survived?
Without his car getting pulled over, he likely would have been in real danger on his own…
She went on to summarize the chaotic scene for Manager Li, explaining the conflict between the bosses, the situation with the trapped little girl, the uprising of Old Huang, Huang Fengxi’s background, the Red-clothed Evil Ghosts, and the people from the Ghost Domain.
Even Li Tianan couldn’t hide his shock as he listened, “I knew there were potential issues, but I honestly didn’t expect it to escalate like this. I’m really sorry, Mingyue.”
Thinking back, if Bai Yu hadn’t been there, Mingyue would’ve likely been in serious trouble.
“Wait, you knew about it all along!?”
“No, no, it wasn’t intentional. I really just got caught up in some bad luck,” Li Tianan scratched his head, flashing an awkward smile. “I only figured the client might be lying about the situation. It’s common to downplay things in the countryside to bring down prices.”
“Who would have guessed this little place was being eyed by the Ghost Domain? Without them, things would’ve been pretty much as I described.”
Zhao Mingyue paused, pondering if he might actually be right; the Ghost Domain was unpredictable, always lurking without a clear agenda.
Just as she was about to say something, Bai Yu’s figure materialized beside her, silent as a shadow, her blade aimed precisely at Li Tianan’s forehead.
“Bai Yu?” Zhao Mingyue gasped, quickly standing.
“Don’t speak,” she shot a glance at her before turning her focus back to Li Tianan.
“You’re intentionally deepening the conflict between the Ghost Domain and me.”
Li Tianan’s eyes widened, his shock quickly replaced by a furrowed brow, “You figured it out?”
“Answer me.”
“Yes, but it’s not the entire truth.” Li Tianan raised his hands, fingers laced on the table, expressing an air of calm.
“Keep going.”
“Alright, it’s simple. I wanted you to weaken the Ghost Domain’s power. They’re far too strong, and you’re even stronger than them. I’ve tried countless times to deal with them, but no luck—only you seemed like hope,” Li Tianan was clear, almost too relaxed, like he held no fear of Bai Yu’s next move.
“This benefits you as well: by absorbing their Red clothing, you could grow stronger.”
“The incident with the rock candy was an accident, but this one? I did intend for you to go.”
“Previously, I visited the Huang family and even saw their little daughter, the one who was imprisoned.”
“My plan was to send you there… besides wanting you to deal with the Ghost Domain, I had a specific purpose regarding that little girl.”
“Since you’ve uncovered it, I won’t hold back anymore.”
“I bear no ill will toward you or Zhao Mingyue. I’m not someone who seeks d*ath.”
“You sensed it, right? That little Huang girl’s aura is tainted with an Evil God’s presence.”
“She’s a child born from the remains of an Evil God’s corpse, her essence allows ghosts to be transformed into Evil Gods.”
“I’ve guided you to make you into one, ultimately aiming to wipe out the Ghost Domain’s folks.”

Now I’ll add another chapter, then two more this afternoon, and two more tonight.
With all my hard work, I’d appreciate a ticket or two!
