Becoming a Fierce Ghost, I Turned into the Shadow Behind the Heroine – Chapter 246

**Chapter Two Hundred Forty-Nine: On How Evil Ghosts Go on Blind Dates**

When it comes to the concept of ghost marriages, Old Yang was just trying to find some company for him. He was tired of the looks people gave him, as if his s*xual orientation was in question. It’s not like he was asking for much—just a few baths here and there!

So, ghost marriage it was! Whether it failed or succeeded, it was worth a shot.

What if it actually worked? Maybe some little female ghost would fancy Old Yang after all. It wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world!

Plus, he had plenty of ghost-collecting gadgets. He could keep the little ghost bride of Old Yang tucked away safely until he got home, at which point he’d clear out a room for them to do whatever.

As for Old Yang’s list of demands? Most of those were just following his whims.

It was obvious things wouldn’t go as beautifully as Old Yang hoped. Just take note of what he asked—no guarantees it would all play out perfectly. After all, pictures are just for reference, right? Just like when people doll themselves up for a blind date!

“Master, why are you so quiet?” Old Yang asked, scratching his head. His hands flailed around, ruining any semblance of dignity he had, his outfit in stark contrast to his lost expression—he looked like a country bumpkin on a blind date, dressed in a rental tuxedo.

In the words of some folks, Old Yang was giving off major “struggling loser” vibes.

“She’s fine now; you can take her home,” the Master said, not bothering with Old Yang and instead focusing on the young couple.

The little evil ghost had been scared away, much more effective than all of her previous attempts. But it was only a fluke—she wouldn’t be able to imitate that feat. A red-clothed evil ghost? Now that was a different story entirely; she wouldn’t dare mess with one of those!

The couple thanked the Master repeatedly, gave Old Yang a grateful nod, and carried their child out, probably off to get a checkup at the hospital.

“Little Lu,” the Master said, standing up and heading over to a wooden box in the corner from which he pulled out a few straw dolls and some paper figures.

“Master!” Lu Liangting rushed over.

“Hold this and write down your friend’s birth information. Tie the red string around his left pinky. Then, I’ll start the ghost marriage ceremony. When the string tightens, and the bell rings, toss this doll in the fire. While they’re communicating, throw in some paper money—more is better!”

He handed a straw doll to Lu Liangting and returned to the offering table, muttering chants as he scribbled with a cinnabar pen.

Holding the doll, Lu Liangting glanced nervously at Old Yang, who was fussing with his suit and checking for any strange odors under his arms.

At the offering table, the Master glanced back at Old Yang while writing, her throat felt dry, and beads of sweat dotted her temples.

She’d done ghost marriages before—at least the process was typically successful, regardless of the outcome.

But a red-clothed evil ghost? This was her first time.

In her mind, red-clothed ghosts were a cut above regular evil ghosts—extremely dangerous. They could k*ll without a second thought, and most were uncontrollable and brutal, void of any humanity. Who knew what they’d do?

First, she had to understand how red-clothed ghosts came to be.

She didn’t know the specifics, but she knew each red-clothed ghost concentrated extreme resentment. Compared to regular evil ghosts, these beings were on a whole different level. The one they’d just dealt with? Not so much chased away as spooked into hiding.

These beings, formed from pure resentment, lacked brains or consciousness, only mindlessly repeating cycles of m*rder and d*ath. When they appear, it’s a disaster waiting to happen.

So why was this particular red-clothed ghost so coherent? Forget the other evil ghosts; she was far more aware—she felt utterly human.

How could Little Lu manage to tame such a powerful spirit?

Even the Master could feel that this red-clothed entity was incredibly strong—possibly the strongest she’d ever seen. No ghost could compete with this kind of aura, this level of vengeance. It was terrifying.

And here was Little Lu, capable of this, wanting her to help with a ghost marriage?

When she’d witnessed Old Yang unleash his power, the Master put on a brave face, but inside, she was terrified. If a regular ghost was tough to handle, now there was a red-clothed one? Was the universe trying to get her killed? When she discovered Old Yang was the groom, she mentally cursed Lu Liangting from head to toe.

That little rascal was clearly looking for trouble.

Who held ghost marriages for red-clothed spirits? And one as strong as this? She wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t manage to marry off the ghost and instead ended up getting the little female ghost swallowed whole.

She shook her head and focused. Raising her hands, she pointed dramatically. The straw doll tied with the red string sprang to life! Immediately, the connecting string to Old Yang snapped taut, and the little bells on it jingled incessantly.

Lu Liangting hurriedly tossed his straw doll into the fire. The flames ravenously consumed the doll, reduced to ashes, while the bells gradually silenced as the string relaxed.

Lu Liangting slowly looked up. The Master’s murmurings seemed to warp in distortion, as if pulled by some unseen force. A chilling wind swept through the room, extinguishing the candles in every corner.

He could feel the temperature in the room drop.

Before his eyes, a delicate figure slowly emerged—a ghost that couldn’t even be classified as an evil ghost.

Lu Liangting stuffed paper money into the fire while trying to catch a glimpse of the ghost. The next moment, he froze.

Not just him. Zhao Mingyue, who was covertly watching from the side, gawked too.

When the ghost first appeared, her figure was decent—not quite the 1.75 meters Old Yang boasted about, but at least she had a good shape. However, as her face came into view, nobody could deny that her body became the least of their worries.

Half her head sagged, along with half her face, as if something heavy had smashed it at the forehead. Both eyes were gone, including her nose bridge; standing directly in front, one could almost see inside her skull.

In reality, this ghost died from being hit by a flower pot that fell from a height.

Her face was a gruesome mess, with only her mouth intact.

Zhao Mingyue averted her gaze. What had been a terrifying sight suddenly struck her as hilariously absurd at the sight of Old Yang’s face, which mirrored someone who was desperately constipated.

Old Yang’s inner thoughts were probably riding a rollercoaster at that moment.

Reality and imagination—what a dramatic gap!

“How long have you been dead?” the female ghost asked.

“I-I’ve been dead for half a year,” Old Yang stammered.

“Half a year, huh? Not bad, pretty young. I’ve been dead for four years.”

“Uh, you’re still pretty young too.”

“What did you do before you died?”

“I didn’t work before I died,” Old Yang replied honestly, glancing at Lu Liangting, only to find him fervently burning paper, seemingly oblivious to everything else.

“No job, so you must be a bum? Were you rich?”

“Not rich; my family is quite poor.”

“Now that you’re dead, do you have a place to live?”

“Uh, that I do have.”

“What’s your education level?”

“High school.”

“Tch, just high school,” the ghost murmured, then continued, “Talking to you is a bit of a hassle. I have a college degree myself! Anyway, here’s a question: Can you absorb living energy?”

Ghosts require energy from the living for strength—so beneficial!

“No, I don’t need it.”

“You don’t have any talents and you look so ugly. Maybe think twice before coming to me!” The female ghost crossed her arms. “We’re both dead. Let’s talk reality. I need a place to stay—not some dingy, creepy shack! I want a place where you burn paper money during festivals—a place that shows my status!”

“If you can absorb the spirits of two living people daily, you’ll gain enough strength to move around freely. You could help look after my parents.”

“What’s your capability? My parents are business people; maybe you can help them earn some money!”

“Are you kidding me? You can’t even cover your eyes and you’re asking how I’d help your parents earn money? And you’ve been dead for four years, but you’re here looking for a half-a-year dead guy? What gives?”

Old Yang’s expression turned livid; he could hardly take it anymore.

How in the world did you lose both your eyeballs and still know I’m ugly?!

And wanting me to help your OLD PARENTS make money? You’re so filial—then why don’t you do that yourself?!

“And you know what? I have a younger brother! He’s probably already in college! Can you help find him a partner? That shouldn’t be hard, right? My brother’s average-looking; finding a girlfriend might be tough. Just enchant a girl for him; how easy is that?”

Once the female ghost finished speaking, Old Yang finally snapped.

“Lu Liangting!!!”

“Master!” Lu Liangting jumped up, and the Master snipped the red string, causing the female ghost to vanish from sight.

Wiping the sweat from her brow with a handkerchief, the Master’s fingers trembled.

“Let’s just find another.”

Meanwhile, Zhao Mingyue’s jaw nearly dropped.

Was this ghost marriage really not what she had envisioned?
