Chapter 24: Gradually Gaining Popularity
Time goes by day by day.
Night Star Lan has been hanging around with Night Sky.
She finds Night Sky’s legendary deeds quite interesting.
Night Sky has been telling her stories, thoroughly satisfying her curiosity.
Not just that,
Night Sky introduced some friends to Night Star Lan.
Like that cat-eared loli that Night Star Lan had always been interested in.
They’ve been staying at their parents’ place for a few days and then moved back to where Night Sky was.
Two cat-themed lolis are actually sisters.
One called Nyane, with light blue long hair, cat ears blending into her hair color, and a flexible tail behind her. A true cat girl.
Nyanes’ superpower allows her to transform into any small animal she desires. When returning to human form, she might still have some animal traits but not much.
The other called Yumene, with beautiful white long hair and red eyes.
Similar superpower as her sister, Nyane.
Except her appearance has no animal features. Complete human.
They met Night Sky at the Flying Wing Academy.
Back when Night Sky first started at Flying Wing Academy, she found a lost little kitten on the way.
That little kitten was Nyane.
With Night Sky’s help, Yumene finally reunited with Nyane after searching long for her sis.
Only, Nyane wasn’t satisfied and fell for the nurturing sensation while with Night Sky.
So she insisted, along with Yumene, on sticking to Night Sky like a couple of cats.
Night Sky was initially unaware that the two kittens could turn into lolis until one fine day, two lolis appeared in bed with her, suddenly realizing.
Back in reality,
Night Star Lan eyed the two cat-themed loli stuck close to Night Sky with envy.
“Cat girls, I don’t have any around.”
“Hmm~ if Nyane and Yumene agree, you can give them a feel.”
Her eyes brightened.
“Really?”
“As long as they say yes. We shouldn’t force them. Just a heads up, they’re a bit shy. Won’t be an easy catch right off the bat.”
She looked at the sisters hugging Night Sky curiously and cautiously.
“I get it, so let’s take it slow.”
To touch these legendary cat girls, she has to raise her friendship score!
She was pretty adept at cheering up those types of cute girls.
A little later.
Nyane and Yumene turned into baby kittens and settled themselves on Night Sky—one on the thigh, the other on her head—staking their territories.
Night Sky gently stroked the Nyane on her lap, causing it to purr contentedly.
“Purrrr~”
This scene made Night Star Lan very envious.
Come to think of it, the only things she’s ever owned were spirits and pigeons.
Spirits, well…
Even though they’re cuddly, they can be mischievous.
Pigeons just eat fries and never turn into anything cute.
Seems like the cat girls, Nyane and Yumene, are much cuter.
Now all she can do is pet herself.
Night Sky looked at Night Lan and Night Lan, both hugging themselves, and felt envious too.
“How does it feel hugging yourself?”
“Meh~ feels alright. They’re soft and smell nice making it comforting to hug. Plus, feeling everything, it’s kind of like sharing senses. You feel both hugging and being hugged at the same time.”
“Not bad, I’d love to try.”
Night Star Lan chuckled, “If my wishes could affect yours, sure, I’d make you a happy camper, but sadly, no such luck.”
Then, there’s another way, making Night Sky pay a price for a wish.
But that method of weakening powers wasn’t ideal.
If NightSky’s power waned, who knows what would happen if another Mist Hidden Beast sort of threat came knocking in this world again. It’d probably be all over in a heartbeat.
She pushed those thoughts aside and asked about something else.
“By the way, how’s the world where the Mist Hidden Beast existed now?”
“It’s in the process of recovery.”
Night Sky said dejectedly.
“It’s only been a few years. Everything’s basically back to normal, but life needs to recover, biodiversity needs to bounce back, civilization needs to progress. Once everything settles down, it’ll be like a whole new world.”
Her eyes lit up.
“Can we develop it like a traditional alternative world? With cat girl elves and such?”
“Probably, assuming there are no outside influences.”
There were elves in that world originally.
But they almost went extinct due to the corruption from the Mist Hidden Force.
If not for the “Tree of Life,” nature’s guardian, they wouldn’t have a single elf left.
The Tree of Life controls everything’s recovery in that world.
With the arrival of the Mists’ Origin, the world’s natural environment experienced devastating destruction.
After the Tree of Life revived things, and Night Sky and company defeated the Mists’ Origin, the world began anew.
Night Sky could go there at any time now.
However, the intelligent civilizations haven’t fully recovered yet, so it’ll probably take ages.
During this time, we won’t see any fun events.
But Night Sky could adjust the time flow between the two worlds, relying completely on the Tree of Life for this.
Their bond is beyond ordinary comprehension.
Controlling everything in that world would be child’s play.
Night Sky, like a farmer planting crops, checks on things now and then, goes fishing, all at will.
“Wouldn’t it be great to check it out?”
Night Star Lan was also intrigued by that world.
But first, she had to find the Group Leader.
Maybe ask Night Sky for coordinates after they handle the Group Leader issue.
Kaguya approached them.
“Lan, the Group Leader from your organization’s really stepping up lately, gaining some online fame.”
They knew the Group Leader’s traits a few days ago, seen the performances in the streets.
So Kaguya and others kept tabs on the Group Leader’s move, since he was dangerous enough to bring threats to the world.
Thus, Night Star Lan searched online.
Finding many videos about the Group Leader on various platforms, even popular ones multiple times.
Anyone capable can gain sudden fame online.
In just a few days, the Group Leader kept showing up in crowded places, performances starting and ending each session.
Great performances and attractive performers undoubtedly drew attention.
Now a lot of people were tracking the Group Leader’s movements.
The recorded performance videos gave the uploaders huge views.
Exciting performances attracted fans in droves.
Night Star Lan pondered with slight worry.
“Feels a bit off… Is it really safe for the showy Group Leader to keep appearing in public?”
