I Became a Witch in a World Full of Urban Legends – Chapter 7

Chapter Seven System

When Luxianbei put down her phone, it was already 8:27 AM.

As night gradually gave way, the first rays of morning sunlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains and fell into the living room.

Has it really gotten this late? Luxianbei wondered. Scratching away the less than twenty minutes spent talking with Water Brother, between the closing and opening of her eyes, nearly three hours had passed.

She clearly felt like she had only slept for less than five minutes.

It’s probably one of those strange phenomena where [the morning alarm rings, and you want to doze off again, only to realize you’re half an hour late, as if time were devoured by something!]

After getting out of bed and changing her clothes, Luxianbei prepared to freshen up quickly before heading to school to register.

She wasn’t someone who liked to procrastinate. Although the registration deadline was tomorrow, tomorrow was a new day, and who knows what could happen? If some unexpected event delayed her, she would really have no choice but to go back and retake the college entrance examination.

Since she had nothing much to do anyway, it was better to resolve what she could.

As she entered the bathroom to wash up, after splashing cold water on her face, Luxianbei was startled by her own reflection.

The face of the girl in the mirror wasn’t particularly beautiful, with a refreshing short hairstyle, features that were well-proportioned, and an overall clean and sunny appearance that was quite approachable.

The nightmare from last night seemed to have had little impact on her sleep; she looked relatively refreshed.

Only her eyes were bloodshot, with red veins covering the eyeballs. Although it wasn’t very severe, it looked as if there was some sudden inflammation or she had caught pink eye.

What’s going on? How can I go out and meet people like this?

Luxianbei frowned. She hadn’t felt any discomfort in her eyes before looking in the mirror.

It seemed she would have to wear sunglasses during registration later, and if it still looked like this later on, she would go to the hospital for a check-up, she thought.

At 9 AM, just as dawn broke, a shouting and cursing broke the tranquility of the community park.

“Who the hell did something so perverted? Are they trying to scare people to d*ath?!”

“They better not get caught by me! Or they’ll be in for a world of hurt!”

Soon, the morning exercisers in the park were attracted by the loud shouting of the sanitation worker.

“Zhang Jie, what are you losing your temper about so early in the morning?”

“Yeah! Who bothered you this time? Another wicked person letting the sprites fly?”

Amid curious inquiries from the crowd, the sanitation worker put her hands on her hips and pointed to the ground. “Look! I don’t know who threw this in the community; it nearly scared me to d*ath!”

Everyone followed the direction she pointed to and saw two rabbit corpses on the ground, emitting an indescribable stench.

One was completely waterlogged and swollen, while the other had turned into mush. If not for some white fur and the “companion” nearby, it would have been nearly impossible to identify them as rabbits.

Having just had breakfast, the crowd saw this disturbing scene and immediately felt their stomachs churn, quickly followed by more unpleasant scenes.

“d*mn! Who the hell did this? Disgusting, right?!”

“Perverted—so perverted! Rabbits are so cute, how could this happen!”

“This is just like those incidents of torturing cats and dogs, right?”

As the community members strongly condemned the creator of the “rabbit cruelty incident,” a young man wearing sunglasses and unwilling to reveal his name passed by from behind them.

What’s going on? Luxianbei wondered. Why is a crowd gathered here so early in the morning? My neighbors really have a lot of energy!

Forget it, it has nothing to do with me! With so many people, I can’t squeeze in anyway!

It must be yet another pointless argument over some trivial matter!

Luxianbei didn’t like to meddle; a careless comment could end up dragging her in.

She distinctly remembered a group of people gathering last month, divided into two factions arguing endlessly over whether a grotesque caterpillar should be called “yanglazi” or “sweeping broom insect.” When she chimed in with “brown-edged green thorn moth larva,” she was met with collective backlash.

After leaving the community, Luxianbei hailed a taxi and told the driver, “Please take me to Huacheng University!” and leaned against the door, dozing off.

The car drove from the entrance of the community towards Huacheng University of Science and Technology.

At the end of August, as the heat of summer gradually faded, the campus of Huacheng University was bustling with new students arriving for registration.

It was the season where seniors flirted with juniors, juniors hit on seniors, seniors were jealous of juniors, juniors resented seniors, seniors abandoned other seniors, seniors retaliated against each other, and seniors lusted after juniors.

Hmm, any problems?

“Where did the junior girls go?”

Wake up, it’s a technical university! Where the hell are junior girls?!

Even if they existed, they wouldn’t be for you!

In the early morning, the special vehicles dedicated to picking up new students came in waves, with young faces carrying large backpacks entering one after another, crossing the grand campus gates, ready to embrace the life they had long awaited.

Luxianbei lived not far from Huacheng University, and due to the solar power system malfunctioning on a rainy day, she had come here once to get a feel for the university’s bathhouse.

Of course, the experience was not good because she had encountered a “senior sister” in the bathhouse.

As she entered the campus, the first thing that greeted her was a tree-lined avenue called Cherry Blossom Avenue, lined with cherry trees. It was said to be a beautiful sight in spring when the blossoms fell, visible through the intersecting light brown branches, where teaching buildings covered with vines could be seen in the distance. The mottled walls silently narrated the past stories of the school.

Compared to the quietness Luxianbei experienced a few days ago, Cherry Blossom Avenue was noticeably livelier now.

The sides of the avenue were filled with a cacophony of drums and colorful banners, with various clubs already set up tents, ready to recruit new members.

“Basketball Club, Basketball Club, if you love sports, if you are passionate about basketball, join our basketball club! No basketball, no brotherhood, we look forward to your joining.”

“Want to know the secret of holding out for ninety minutes without shooting? Join the football club, and step into the world of the national team!”

Clustered near the entrance were the traditional clubs that attracted the most new students. As one walked deeper inside, perhaps due to the lack of oversight from responsible teachers, some bizarre clubs began to emerge, changing the atmosphere entirely.

“ADV Deep Meaning Research Club… E-Sports Without Vision Club… Muscle Men Bathhouse Mutual Back Rubbing Club… Oh well, let’s just call this one what it is…”

What kind of strange clubs are these? Joining such clubs would definitely lead to some bizarre associations!

As Luxianbei glanced at each of the clubs, she internally complained when she suddenly bumped into something soft, bouncy, and exuding a faint fragrance that engulfed her, making her unable to resist letting out a gasp.

“Oh ho~!”

Just as Luxianbei was enveloped in a sense of fullness and happiness, a voice filled with disdain and contempt interrupted her thoughts. “Are you the one called Luxianbei?”

Huh? Who is this person? They know my name? Luxianbei froze for a moment, took a step back, and finally saw the person blocking her path.

It was a girl with chestnut hair, her face delicate but not overly beautiful, giving off a youthful vibe, as if she were a high school student rather than a college student.

She wore a light blue lace tank top that accentuated her figure, which was quite impressive, though she was short, creating a combination that made her appear both big and petite.

She slightly raised her chin, glaring at Luxianbei as if looking at a piece of trash, and asked in an unfriendly tone, “I’m asking you! Are you Luxianbei?”

How does she know my name? Is she looking for trouble? I unconsciously took advantage of her earlier, and if she’s here to confront me, I’ve already lost the upper hand at the start of the argument!

It’s better to find a way to avoid this.

After a few seconds of silence, Luxianbei said earnestly, “Miss, you must have mistaken me for someone else. My name is Gou Erdan, not Luxianbei.” With that, she turned to leave.

With sunglasses on, Luxianbei couldn’t see any change in her expression, and her calm demeanor showed no sign of deceit.

Looking at such a face, no one would doubt that she was indeed Gou Erdan!

“Huh? But…” The girl was visibly taken aback by Luxianbei’s response, momentarily too stunned to stop her from leaving.

By the time Luxianbei had walked far away, the girl suddenly snapped back to her senses, instinctively wanting to chase after her, but after a brief moment of thought, she stopped in her tracks, and whispered to herself in a tone only she could hear, “System! Is the system there?”

“Hello, host. I’m here!”

“Is there a problem with the data you gave me? The guy I just encountered is really the target for the ultimate mission? He’s male! How could he be a witch? Did you make a mistake?!”

“Request received from the host, starting re-evaluation. Progress 10%… 20%….”

“Evaluation completed! The male entity the host encountered one minute and thirty-seven seconds ago is indeed the future world-destroying witch—Calamity! Please proceed with caution and k*ll him as soon as possible!”

“Understood.” The girl responded, narrowing her eyes and clenching her delicate fists, as she watched Luxianbei slowly vanish from her sight, quietly saying, “Just wait, Gou Erdan, I will definitely save this world from you!”

“Reminder to the host, the target’s name is Luxianbei.”

“Eh?!”

“He just lied to you.”

The girl, “……”
