Chapter 50
Mr. Silver: So you two are just trying to take advantage of me, huh?
With the scale of Starry University, a new student transferred into the second year, and a subtle new ranking appeared at the bottom of the Obelisk…
These were trivial matters that no one paid attention to.
Perhaps due to the old principal’s educational philosophy, Starry University equipped every Night Traveler with a single dorm room.
Thanks to this, in an unnoticed corner, Rast began his campus life.
Of course, since it was an unoccupied corner, it naturally did not include magical creatures.
A certain Mr. Ferret boldly moved into Rast’s single dorm room; he seemed to possess some ability to access sub-dimensions, enjoying life wherever he went.
Mr. Silver’s public reason was, “Young Tina is worried that you won’t fit into modern society; she asked me to take care of you before she returns.”
But in reality, Mr. Silver came with the intention of finding a long-term meal ticket.
As a magical creature, Mr. Silver could not obtain the identity of a Night Traveler, nor enter the Night World to complete his advancement.
As a being whose true age was listed among the “Top Ten Mysteries of Starry University,” ordinary methods like meditation and role-playing had lost their effect on Mr. Silver.
Although there were other ways to upgrade, such as absorbing extraordinary materials and using potions, Mr. Silver’s Sequence was unique, much like Rast’s “Tower,” making it nearly impossible to obtain corresponding materials and potions.
Thus, engaging with humanity, contacting that genuine and pure, shining emotion became his only choice.
Hiltina’s pure and unwavering belief was indeed brilliant, but the little girl was notoriously stubborn and spent more than half the year in the Night World, making her quite unstable as a meal ticket.
Moreover, their previous brief interactions had allowed Mr. Silver to keenly sense Rast’s potential as a long-term meal ticket; the purity of that emotion even surpassed Hiltina.
However, this kid was wearing too many masks and hiding too deeply. Without using “The Moon of True Words,” even Mr. Silver could not tell if this kid was fooling him.
He settled into Rast’s dorm room intending to observe for a period, to see what this little guy’s true intentions were and whether he was worth the investment.
But—
As time passed day by day, Mr. Silver grew increasingly perplexed.
It had already been five days since Rast enrolled.
In these five days, the only thing he did was run to the shooting range for four hours every morning, consuming thousands of rounds of ammunition.
The rest of the time, Rast was wandering among the various departments and extracurricular clubs at Starry University.
If he visited the “Ashen Academy,” it could be said he was strengthening his Emblem Armor, sharpening the axe does not delay the firewood chopper…
However, when Mr. Silver discovered Rast mingling in campus bars and even at the gossiping News Agency, he could no longer find an explanation.
His behavior did not resemble that of a mission-burdened Night Traveler but was more akin to a university freshman here to enjoy a vibrant campus life.
While living in the present and enjoying life without regrets indeed aligned with the old principal’s educational philosophy, wasn’t this immersion a bit too smooth?
So—
“Justice partner” and all that, was it really just my illusion?
The real Rast was, in fact, a refined egoist who spoke differently to different people, meeting their desires with various masks.
Just as this thought arose, Mr. Silver caught an enticing scent coming from a distance.
Stepping lightly, he appeared in the living room of the single dorm room.
A huge grilled fish cake had already been placed on the dining table by Rast.
The grilled fish cake was surrounded by steaming white vapor, evidently fresh out of the oven, emanating a fragrance that was… no, that made the ferret salivate.
Mr. Silver appeared at the dining table and discreetly took a big bite of the grilled fish cake, satisfaction showing in his ruby-like beast eyes.
Then he slightly squinted, looking at Rast on the nearby sofa with a relaxed smile.
“In the inner city of Summer Flower City, the grilled fish cake customized by ‘White Walnut Bakery,’ right?”
“How did you know I like this, and even the bakery I love the most?”
Rast smiled: “Eighteen years ago, Mr. Silver secretly used a portion of the Magical Creatures Research Institute’s research funds to order a month’s worth of grilled fish cakes from ‘White Walnut Bakery.'”
“This incident was exposed by the News Agency at the time in the Starry Daily. Although it was later suppressed under your intimidation and inducement, a backup still exists in the archives.”
“Eighteen years have passed; the members of the News Agency from back then are long gone, and I specifically asked the current president of the News Agency to lookup this content in past issues of the Starry Daily.”
Mr. Silver shot a glance at Rast without much concern, continuing to eat the grilled fish cake on his own.
The Magical Creatures Research Institute’s research funds… after all, am I not a magical creature?
“The mood changes of a magical creature that has continuously eaten grilled fish cake for a month.”
What a great research topic.
While Rast quietly watched Mr. Silver eat, his eating movements were graceful, yet the speed was astonishingly fast.
In just a minute, the huge grilled fish cake was completely gone.
Upon seeing the grilled fish cake vanish, as if realizing that some hint had not appeared, Rast shook his head with a hint of disappointment.
“Indeed, simply feeding the food I like does not truly establish a bond, does it?”
“Do you think I’m one of those pets or a character from a virtual romance game that can be wooed with food and gifts?”
Mr. Silver glared at Rast: “You thought that just by feeding me or giving the right gifts, my affection would skyrocket?”
“Forget it.”
With an elegant gesture, he licked his paw: “I know you are just like Young Tina; doing favors without reason spells trouble.”
“Come on, what do you want from me this time?”
“I knew I couldn’t hide it from you, Mr. Silver.”
Rast smiled: “I would like to ask you to take me to Scarlet Frost Territory.”
“More precisely, inside Scarlet Frost Territory, there is already the Night World raid frontline number sixty-one showing Calamity Echo.”
He glanced at his pocket watch: “I hope we can arrive there within eight hours.”
“If it’s later, I’m worried Hiltina will enter the Calamity Echo alone.”
