Factions refer mainly to the actions you take that lean towards a particular faction, rather than belonging to a faction requiring you to act in a certain way.
Some readers did a quick search and concluded what the standards for Lawful Evil are.
This is a very one-sided perspective.
Representatives of Lawful Evil include lawyers, tyrants, and demons.
Lawyers, while discussing the law, often enjoy exploiting legal loopholes. Tyrants prefer to rule over others with brutal means and impose few restrictions on themselves, often appearing extravagant and hedonistic instead.
Then there are demons.
Demons are the extreme embodiment of Lawful Evil; if other species have an evil score of only 5, demons have an evil score of 50.
They emphasize discipline and order and govern with cruel methods.
However, Lesser Devils are always looking for opportunities and schemes to exploit the loopholes in order, and then take down their superiors to take their place.
There has been quite a bit of debate about this recently, and some statements make me feel less like they pertain to factions and more like they are rigid.
Even Lawful Good paladins can fall and commit acts that seem quite evil.
There are also characters like Lust Demons from hell who have a whitewashed image, etc.
Factions are a broad concept; they do not serve as standards to constrain behavior, and deities may also experience faction shifts due to other influences.
I don’t know who instilled in you the idea that factions determine behavior.
But I want to say that person is heretical.
