The glow of the sunset fell upon Modo.
The High Priest stepped out of the Temple after a busy day and returned to her residence in the evening. However, as she passed by Soren’s mansion, her expression suddenly changed, and in an instant, she disappeared from where she stood. The next moment, she appeared outside Soren’s room; after hesitating for a moment, she decisively pushed the door open.
“Master?”
The High Priest quickly entered the room, looking at Soren, who had his back to her, and asked in a deep voice, “What’s wrong? What happened? Why does the master look so weak?!”
As Soren’s Elect, the High Priest was very keenly aware of the changes in him. Soren was extremely weak, even to say he was unprecedentedly weak.
What could cause a deity to be this weak?
Could it be that the master has secretly battled against some powerful deities? But once deities engage in battle, it becomes a full-scale war. As the leader of the Half-Elf Church, she should not be unaware of anything!
“Nothing.”
Soren slowly turned around; his complexion was slightly pale and fatigued, looking very weak. This wasn’t a physical weakness but a weakness stemming from his soul.
He gazed at the High Priest and said slowly, “I need to rest for half a month.”
“During this time, everything in the Church will be handed over to you. The council hall of Modo will fully cooperate with your actions, and you may also need to oversee the preparation for the military parade.”
Hearing this, the High Priest slightly bent her body, revealing a hint of worry, and slowly replied, “Understood.”
“MY LORD!”
She opened her mouth, wanting to ask something, but ultimately didn’t voice it.
As a servant of the deity, although she was the supreme ruler of the Half-Elf Church, she couldn’t easily question Soren. Because if it was something she could know, Soren wouldn’t deliberately hide it from her.
Deities have their own secrets!
As Soren’s servant, she just needed to do her own duties.
The High Priest withdrew.
Soren slowly walked to the window, raised his hand to look at his palm, and muttered, “Soul weakness! I wonder if paying such a great price will yield the desired result!”
The sun set.
The afterglow enveloping Modo disappeared. People returned home to prepare dinner.
Suddenly!
The entire Modo shook as if an earthquake had occurred; even Soren felt the ground tremble noticeably.
However, this lasted only a short time.
The next moment.
Gloria’s mental transmission echoed in Soren’s mind, and she spoke with immense excitement, “It’s open! It’s finally opened! We’ve opened the half-plane of the Wizard Tower!!!…”
Soren’s expression jolted.
He had just taken a seat when he found himself rising involuntarily, murmuring, “Has it finally been cracked? It’s been nearly half a year! Finally unveiled the first secret of the Wizard Tower!”
More than half a year had passed.
Since Gloria arrived at the Overseas Islands, they had been searching for the key to cracking the secrets of the Wizard Tower, and today they had finally opened the passage to the half-plane of the Wizard Tower. As long as they could enter the interior of the half-plane, they would likely be able to fully take control of the Wizard Tower. This was an extremely important key for Soren’s future, as the Wizard Towers from the Arcane Empire era had the power to confront the avatars of deities.
Moreover, the knowledge contained within could help Soren face all future challenges!
…
In the Bottomless Abyss, on the Ten Thousand Abyss Plains, near the Abyss Blood Pool.
The Mother of Worms had returned to the Abyss Blood Pool; after spending half a day patrolling her territory, she lay still. The nearby Abyss Worms completely failed to attract her attention; after completing her daily tasks, she began to greedily devour the energy of the blood pool. The water of the River of Underworld severely affected her intelligence, and she often forgot what had happened the day before. But this was unimportant to her because all she needed was to waddle her massive body around once a day.
She seldom paid attention to other matters.
Though the Mother of Worms had a biological level exceeding 25, her intelligence was even lower than that of a low-ranked Coward Demon.
She had very few memories from her long life, but she instinctively remembered her tasks.
A slight sound caught the Mother of Worms’ attention!
She turned her massive body, stopping the absorption of the blood pool’s energy, and before her appeared a mass of twisted flesh, resembling a dark red cocoon.
This was an Abyss Worm about to evolve!
Under normal circumstances, an Abyss Worm with the ability to advance would metamorphose at dusk; however, the timing for this particular Abyss Worm seemed a bit different.
But the Mother of Worms didn’t care about those details.
She just used her powerful mental abilities to envelop it and conveyed a message: “Leave here! Go fight! Go to the Blood War!”
“Stay! … Die! …”
The Coward Demon couldn’t remain here.
Because it wouldn’t be fair to the other Abyss Worms; a mature male could easily kill an Abyss Worm, but it was nearly impossible to defeat a Coward Demon who inherently possessed two challenge levels.
To deal with such a low-level demon required a party of adventurers with a profession level of around 2.
Even if its challenge difficulty was only D rank!
The newly born Coward Demon appeared to be less than a meter tall, but as a demon, it was born with far superior strength than ordinary people. They inherently had the ability to face the sea, with decent resistance to shocks, toxins, strong acids, cold, and flames. Moreover, they automatically understood Abyss language and possessed the ability to communicate telepathically within 100 feet. If it weren’t for their naturally low perception attribute, forcing them to communicate through telepathy, this seemingly weak demon would be even harder to deal with.
The newly birthed Coward Demon was still quite weak.
Many of its abilities had not yet fully awakened, and as it grew in level, it could learn spell-like abilities such as ‘Fear’, ‘Cloud of Stench’, ‘Summon Demon’, and so forth.
“Leave here!”
The Mother of Worms sent another mental transmission. If the Coward Demon did not leave soon, she was prepared to crush this little thing.
In her long life, she had encountered fools who had evolved into Coward Demons but still refused to leave, wanting to rely on the slaughter of Abyss Worms to further accumulate strength; all such fools who dared only prey on the weaker had been devoured by her.
The Coward Demon finally began to move.
It seemed a bit clumsy, as if it were not accustomed to its current body.
This led the Mother of Worms’ simplistic brain to conclude that it was a ‘fool’; it was clearly an underdeveloped Coward Demon with a poor intellect, hence, it had stood there dazed for a moment.
Such fools would soon die outside; the Mother of Worms had no interest in continuing to watch it.
About a minute later.
The Coward Demon finally moved normally, its smaller body nimbly making its way outside, quickly disappearing into the plains.
Ahead lay the barren blood-colored plains.
The first challenge after becoming a demon, the newborn Coward Demon would hunt others in this plain, for power and food. Only the Coward Demons who could pass through these plains could truly step into the ranks of demons.
They would also gain the qualification to be cannon fodder!
