Chapter 28: Call Me Sister
Upon reaching the ground floor, Xia Yu wasted no time in flipping open the pot cover to check if there was any water inside. Of course, there was water, but barely a splash at the bottom.
Therefore, Xia Yu had to pour more water into the pot. A full bucket might be too much for such a little girl like her, but half a bucket would do.
So Xia Yu started pouring water, cycling about five times until the pot was fairly full.
Burning water may sound boring, but Xia Yu found ways to entertain herself by playing with the flame. Let’s call it fire play.
Just as Xia Yu was thoroughly engrossed in both heating the water and amusing herself with the fire, Xia Ling somehow managed to sneak up behind her…
“Hey sis, what are you up to? Tell me!” Xia Ling plopped down on Xia Yu’s back quite intimately.
Feeling the heavy load behind her, Xia Yu struggled to adjust to her new role as “younger sister.” It seemed kind of embarrassing, being treated like one.
But ignoring her wasn’t right. So Xia Yu awkwardly replied, “N-nothing… What’s there to do here?”
As if she expected this response, Xia Ling fetched a chair from the living room and sat down next to Xia Yu. “Well then, let’s play a game together, sis!”
With a cheerful grin, Xia Ling pulled out Mom’s old discarded phone, inviting Xia Yu to play. While they can’t play big games, small ones will do just fine.
Xia Yu was quite envious of Xia Le and Xia Ling; they each got their parents’ hand-me-down phones to play with, unlike her, who had nothing.
When Xia Ling finished playing and handed the phone to Xia Yu, Xia Ling decided to be particularly mischievous. She stuffed the phone behind her back and laughed, “Want to play, sis? Call me ‘sister’ and I’ll give it to you.”
“Uh…”
Xia Yu glanced around the empty living room and back at Xia Ling, still grinning. For the sake of the game, she took the plunge…
“S-sis… Sis~” Xia Yu managed, barely audible.
“Hmm? Could you speak up? What did you say? Are you calling me?”
Xia Ling pretended not to hear, clearly wanting Xia Yu to call her “sister” again louder.
“Si… Sis, sis, sis~” Xia Yu blushed and called out three times louder each time, losing all sense of pride—there was no one else around anyway.
“Ah~”
Satisfied, Xia Ling patted Xia Yu’s head. “Good sis! Good sis! I’m happy, so here, have two turns. No need to be reserved with your sister.”
With that, Xia Ling handed over the phone and continued lounging on Xia Yu, watching her play with amusement.
Noticing the faint scent wafting from behind, Xia Yu shyly asked Xia Ling, “Are all girls this close? You never acted like this before.”
“Right? You were a boy back then, I couldn’t act so close. Now you’re not a boy anymore, so now we can be closer! Happy?” Xia Ling playfully blew a puff of her aroma into Xia Yu’s ear.
