Chapter 54

Chapter 54: The Tiny and Weak Update Once More

Of course, at this point, Xia Yu was still wearing the clothes Xia Ling had sponsored for her (which happened to be women’s attire). Since she already looked like that, wearing her own men’s clothes would have felt a bit off.

Mainly, Xia Yu couldn’t resist Xia Ling, no matter what. Every time she planned to take a bath, Xia Ling would prepare her clothes as if she were taking care of her little sister.

Now, out on the street, Xia Ling clung to Xia Yu, not wanting to let go for anything. It was impossible to separate those two clingy sisters.

Seeing them all cuddled up front, Mother Wang Wenjuan was quite exasperated. She initially thought about saying something to remind them but decided against it. After all, it seemed that Xia Yu and Xia Ling being so close wasn’t a problem.

Xia Yue, their older brother, also noticed the commotion caused by Xia Yu and Xia Ling. He envied Xia Yu for being able to be hugged by Xia Ling. But alas, he didn’t dare express his annoyance — why should Xia Ling get so close to Xia Yu when they were both older brothers?

Indeed, as an older brother, Xia Yue wished for a cute little sister to cling to rather than a troublesome younger brother. This wasn’t odd at all.

They stopped at a large stationery store. Wang Wenjuan asked her kids to pick out the school supplies they needed while she watched from the side.

It was well known that stationery stores loved making money on little kids’ toys too. Besides selling stationery, they also had boys’ toys and girls’ trinkets on display.

Sure enough, halfway through picking out school supplies, Xia Yu was dragged off by Xia Ling to look at some cute trinkets—like adorable hairbands and cute hair clips…

Mother Wang Wenjuan was equally exasperated and followed along, but not just because she didn’t want to buy them anything. She figured she’d check out whatever they chose since some hairbands aren’t made with great quality and can easily tangle up hair.

So, Mother Wang Wenjuan joined in on the hunt for cute trinkets, though she mostly ended up giving advice and picking out things.

After a grueling hour and a half at this huge stationery store, Xia Ling and Xia Yue got piles of their desired items.

As for Xia Yu, half the stuff she bought was picked out by Xia Ling despite Xia Yu wanting some independence. In the end, Xia Yu conceded because Xia Ling threatened that if she didn’t buy the cute stationery, Xia Ling wouldn’t let her wear pretty clothes ever again. Instead, Xia Yu would have to wear the old, ugly ones…

Of course, even if Xia Yu didn’t listen, Xia Ling wouldn’t be that heartless. However, poor naive Xia Yu believed her every word. For reasons she couldn’t explain, Xia Yu didn’t want to disappoint Xia Ling. So, obediently, she purchased what she needed.

Since the streets were crowded and unsuitable for shopping, Wang Wenjuan took the kids back to the village after getting everything they needed for school.

This was the moment Xia Yu dreaded most. Not because she disliked going home or wanted to keep shopping, but because… well, they had to ride the village’s big three-wheeler home.

Given that they needed to ride the three-wheeler with the other villagers, Xia Yu hated facing people’s questions about her outfit. Due to her current attire, she found the village gossip tiresome and annoying.
