Chapter 77: Not Interested
Hearing her mother’s words, Xia Yu’s little heart skipped a beat, and her face instantly paled, because she couldn’t help but wonder if her mother had figured out her little secret.
“I know what it is! I just don’t want to be a ladyboy!”
Yes, that was Xia Yu’s response because she thought that’s what a normal person would say. Unfortunately, she was already… ah, well…
When Wang Wenjuan heard Xia Yu’s reply, she awkwardly smiled and decided to drop the topic. If Xia Yu said she didn’t like it, then who was she to force the issue?
As for Xia Ling, she often wanted to spill the beans to their mom that Xia Yu had already undergone that kind of surgery, but she had promised Xia Yu to keep it a secret. No way was she gonna risk making her sister mad!
So, she just had to keep her lips zipped.
And just like that, escorted by a professional driver, Xia Yu and her group finally returned to their familiar village in the afternoon.
The business van was shiny and looked expensive, so it was no surprise that it caught the attention of many villagers as it rolled into town, with everyone curious about whose fancy ride this was.
Driven by their curiosity, they followed the luxury vehicle as it headed toward Xia Yu’s home.
Since they had given prior notice, Grandpa and Grandma were both at home. After all, with such a big event, they couldn’t very well just stay away, but they could definitely be there to welcome them back.
However, to Xia Yu’s surprise, the elderly couple didn’t bombard her with those hard-to-answer questions upon her arrival. Instead, they asked if she was still in pain or if she was hungry.
As for the driver who brought Xia Yu and her crew home, he politely declined the elderly couple’s offer for a quick rest and zoomed off right after finishing his job.
In short, Xia Yu was now back home safe and sound.
Since Xia Yu and her gang hadn’t eaten anything on their way home, it was impossible for them not to be hungry. Thus, Mother Wang Wenjuan eagerly jumped into action in the kitchen to whip up a sumptuous feast as a homecoming celebration.
Of course, these dishes had been prepared by Grandma and Grandpa, who were told by Wang Wenjuan not to be too stimulating for Xia Yu. Otherwise, they might just end up with one less grandchild!
And that explained why the grandma and grandpa were so well-behaved, avoiding any sensitive topics—Wang Wenjuan had prepped them well.
Just as the dishes were finishing up, Xia Le came back from school, which meant this lavish spread was now officially dinner!
With her hands and legs out of commission, Xia Yu was getting the royal treatment—just sit at the dining table, and her food was handed over to Xia Ling for serving.
Xia Ling was more than happy to take on these little chores for her sister.
Though her family was treating her like a queen, Xia Yu couldn’t quite feel the joy—maybe guilt had something to do with it.
So, even when faced with a table full of delicious food, Xia Yu only shoved aside some greens with rice. She was just that easy to please.
Seeing Xia Yu in this dazed state, her family sighed. What in the world happened to this once cheerful kid?
Feeling helpless, they could only go with the flow and take it one step at a time.
Meanwhile, Wang Wenjuan tried to give Xia Yu some lightly flavored meat dishes because fresh out of the hospital, there were quite a few things she needed to avoid.
