Chapter 96

Chapter 96: Late Again

In the afternoon, music started playing.

Xia Yu got out of bed, but instead of waking up in the familiar digital environment of home, she found herself in the school dormitory.

This made her realize she was back at school again, back in this not-so-happy place.

Suddenly, Xia Yu felt something heavy on her—like being crushed under a mountain.

Looking down, she saw that it was her sister Xia Ling, still fast asleep. But not only that, her feet were casually draped over Xia Yu’s waist…

Helpless, Xia Yu had no choice but to poke Xia Ling’s leg to wake up her nearly-comatose sister.

“Ugh, easy there, sister! The bell just rang; we can snooze for five more minutes, no rush…”

Xia Ling said without even opening her eyes. After mumbling that, she casually tossed her hand onto Xia Yu, finding this position super comfortable for sleeping.

Xia Yu: “…”

Staring blankly at the ceiling.

Three minutes passed—

Five minutes passed—

Ten minutes passed—

When the ten minutes were up, the wake-up music came to an abrupt halt.

Hearing the music stop, Xia Ling suddenly sensed danger and bolted upright, glancing at the clock. “Sister! Why didn’t you wake me? We’re going to be late!”

Yanking Xia Yu out of bed, Xia Ling hurriedly put on her shoes because she only intended to take a quick snooze—she didn’t realize time could fly so fast!

By the time Xia Ling finished getting ready, Xia Yu had also managed to put on her shoes.

With time running out, there was no chance for a wash or to use the restroom; both girls were terrified of being late and getting yelled at.

Just as Xia Ling was about to drag Xia Yu off to sprint to class, she suddenly remembered that Xia Yu’s foot was still injured and running wasn’t an option…

Seeing Xia Ling’s dilemma, Xia Yu sighed and gently retracted her hand, replying, “Why don’t you just go ahead? I can manage on my own.”

“No way!”

Without a second thought, Xia Ling dismissed Xia Yu’s suggestion. Rather than facing the wrath of their teacher, she was more concerned about Xia Yu getting into trouble.

Besides, she had promised their parents that she would take good care of Xia Yu!

So, Xia Ling decided to forgo the mad dash to class and instead walked slowly with Xia Yu. After all, she felt it was meaningful, and if they did get scolded, she’d accept it.

Halfway to the classroom, the class bell rang, as expected.

At this point, the homeroom teacher would definitely be in the classroom checking attendance and catching latecomers, which was exactly why Xia Ling was worried.

Especially since this new homeroom teacher was even stricter and fiercer than Zhang Chao.

Being late meant either copying notes or doing cleaning duty—neither of which appealed to Xia Ling at all.

However, when Xia Ling accompanied Xia Yu into the classroom, the harsh reprimands she imagined didn’t materialize. The homeroom teacher simply said, “Hurry back to your seats; class is about to start.”

Indeed, the teacher knew about Xia Yu’s injury.

From her point of view, Xia Yu’s situation was understandable, and with Xia Ling helping her, it was as if they didn’t know about the rules at all.

Thus, Xia Ling and Xia Yu peacefully returned to their seats.

As expected, rumors about Xia Yu staying in the girls’ dorm had spread throughout the class. Once the teacher finished inspecting and left, the chatter began.

“Hey, have you heard? That Xia Yu guy took a nap in the girls’ dorm!”

“I know! She’s rooming with her sister!”

“Tsk tsk, she looks so feminine now; bet the girls in the dorm are all second-guessing whether she’s actually a guy.”

“Probably!”

Xia Yu ignored the gossip. If she let it bother her, that would be the real defeat. Let them talk! Maybe they were just jealous?

Flipping through a textbook she didn’t understand, Xia Yu began to zone out…

P.S. Did that hit the spot?

P.S. This short chapter isn’t that interesting; let’s just wait until it’s fully wrapped up for the good stuff, hehe ╭?( ̄ ▽ ̄)╭?

P.S. The author has a new book on Qidian called “Battle of True and False in Another World,” a transformation tale at 4,000 words a day, where the protagonist bounces between reality and another world. If you’re interested, maybe drop a bookmark or something? ?(??????)*? Wow~
