Chapter 189: Doctor Y
No time for chit-chat, the two silly little girls whipped out their phones and formed a team, instantly diving into a solo showdown.
Xia Yu stood to the side, quietly watching to see who was tougher between Xia Jing and Jiang Hanhang. Honestly, she was just bored out of her mind.
That’s right; Xia Yu wasn’t particularly interested in these games, but to fit in with her friends, she decided to give it a shot—even if her skills were laughably terrible.
The trio of Xia Yu, Xia Ling, and Jiang Hanhang were actually pretty close to the place where Class 15 had just gathered, and with a quick glance, they could see the PE teacher supervising the students as they ran laps. So, it wasn’t long before she spotted the Class 15 crew returning to assemble.
As expected, after so many laps, when the girls finally vacated the track, they were panting like they just completed a marathon. Sweat droplets, the size of peas, started rolling down their foreheads, and Xia Yu couldn’t help but feel sorry for them.
Especially Huang Qiao, their class leader, who was now beet red and desperately dabbing her face with a tissue to mop up the sweat.
During the final lap, the PE teacher threw caution to the wind and let the boys off the leash, allowing them to sprint free while organizing the girls into a lineup: “Stand straight, no sitting down! Or else you’ll end up fainting!”
At that moment, Xia Yu found the whole scene particularly amusing. Honestly, special treatment had its perks—otherwise, she could very well have been in the same sorry state… or worse.
Then she glanced over at the two silly girls who were still engrossed in their gaming battle. It didn’t seem like they were trying to push for a final victory; instead, they were just out for bl**d—each takedown met with a round of teasing.
Of course, in the realm of gaming, Xia Ling was clearly dominating Jiang Hanhang, with a k*ll count of seven to three, which was making Jiang Hanhang on the verge of tears.
Xia Yu had somewhat gotten used to the playful banter between Xia Ling and Jiang Hanhang. Honestly, she was thrilled that Xia Ling had found such a good friend. “Oh come on! I just got careless, you braggart! Don’t get too cocky! Once I level up, you’ll see!”
Hearing this, Xia Yu didn’t need a crystal ball to know that Jiang Hanhang’s character had just bitten the dust again, and she was not pleased.
Seeing the glimmer of tears in Jiang Hanhang’s eyes, Xia Ling’s tone softened, losing the brashness she usually carried: “I’m waiting! Come at me; dare you!”
Xia Yu just rolled her eyes. “….…”
A refreshing breeze blew through her bangs as Xia Yu resumed her gaze on Class 15. The boys were now back in orderly fashion.
“Before class ends, no one is allowed back in the classroom! Anyone wanting to play basketball needs to wait for the class leader to go with them to the equipment room to register, then we’ll dismiss.” With those orders delivered, the PE teacher didn’t linger, hopping onto his bike and pedaling off. Finally, the rest of Class 15 was liberated to scatter and do their own thing.
Xia Yu noticed everyone spotted her too, and before long, Gao Xiaotian swaggered over with a buddy. “Hey, Little Yu! What are you all playing?”
Xia Ling looked up to find Xia Yu’s deskmate had come over. Remembering all the outrageous antics Gao Xiaotian had pulled on Xia Yu previously, her fondness for him diminished. Without waiting for Xia Yu to respond, Xia Ling fired first: “Stay away from my sister, or I’ll hit you!”
Gao Xiaotian exchanged glances with his friend, tempted to laugh but holding it back, knowing that laughter would probably land them in hot water. Glancing at Xia Ling and Jiang Hanhang’s phones, he caught sight of the game—not just any game, but King’s Glory! It was a game they all loved.
Feeling bold, Gao Xiaotian plopped down at another stone table beside them and casually asked, “I came over because I wanted to team up with Xia Yu. How about it? Since you’re all playing, want to join?”
“Is my sister playing or not?” Xia Ling directed her question to Xia Yu.
In her mind, Xia Ling thought Xia Yu’s opinion weighed more. If Xia Yu didn’t want to play, she wouldn’t pressure her. Looking at Jiang Hanhang and Xia Ling, then glancing at her deskmate and his buddy, Xia Yu felt a little awkward about rejecting them.
Finally, she shyly acquiesced: “Mhm.” And just like that, the five of them set off for a team match…
Before long, some classmates noticed the five-player squad, and whispers spread like wildfire. More and more students strolled over to join the fun. The boys naturally gathered around Gao Xiaotian, while the girls flocked to Xia Ling, Jiang Hanhang, and Xia Yu.
It had to be said—King’s Glory wasn’t just for guys who were into gaming; most girls were just as hooked.
Meanwhile, while Xia Yu was happily navigating her school life, unbeknownst to her, a mysterious team from the capital had arrived at the very place where she had been experimented on. The building had already been demolished by the Jiang family, but that wasn’t a problem; at the leader’s command, the large team started sifting through the rubble with meticulous care.
Indeed, they were searching thoroughly, making sure not to miss any vital clues.
As debris was excavated, a tattered piece of paper surfaced, clearly marked with Xia Yu’s basic information—her name, age, recovery status like a “what the hell…” Although some of the writing had faded, the leader, Doctor Y, could still make out the essentials; this was Xia Yu’s nameplate from when she lived there.
Seeing this information, a smile crept onto Doctor Y’s face as he confirmed his suspicions: “Keep searching.”
Soon, the searchers uncovered more useful items, like a wrecked computer tower, various instrument monitors, and a few rusty high-end USB drives…
Thanks to the Jiang family’s sudden arrival last time, Doctor T hadn’t had the chance to destroy all the materials, just the most crucial ones. Naturally, the other not-so-important data still remained on the computers—after all, keeping everything written down on paper would be a total headache.
Plus, the number of instruments here was staggering; this was what they used for those kinds of experiments. A ton of pharmaceutical and diagnostic equipment was left behind, too—so the Jiang family simply chose to obliterate what they could carry easily.
Little did they expect that, half a year later, someone would actually know this place existed and come to look for it.
This search was thorough, and after half a day, they had quite a haul—not only had they found the machines storing information, but they also dug up a safe filled with a mountain of paper documents…
By evening, Doctor Y finally decided to leave this desolate site, as he couldn’t wait to repair those hard drives and USB drives to uncover Doctor T’s research results.
Indeed, Doctor Y was one of the few who was privy to Doctor T’s plans; he had collaborated with Doctor T back in the day, but they ended up parting ways due to differing opinions.
Recently, Doctor Y had caught wind of Doctor T’s success and d*ath while in the capital, and that had only intensified his curiosity about what Doctor T had accomplished. This madman actually succeeded!
Incredible…
Meanwhile, oblivious to all this, Xia Yu continued her usual post-school routine, feeling an odd sense of trepidation wash over her. “What’s wrong, Little Yu? Are you lost in thought?”
Sure enough, the super concerned Jiang Kekai picked up on Xia Yu’s odd behavior, and without hesitation pulled her into an embrace in their car, giving her head a gentle pat and ruffling her adorable face.
Of course, Xia Yu, accustomed to Jiang Kekai’s antics, didn’t resist; instead, she found a cozy spot in Jiang Kekai’s embrace and lounged about. Even Xia Ling, who was sitting in the car, couldn’t stand by idly—she turned to Jiang Hanhang, who was busy playing King’s Glory, and pulled her into her arms too… Sweet revenge!
“Hey! What’s your problem? Can’t you see I’m in the middle of a battle?!” Jiang Hanhang fumed, kicking back with annoyance, but she didn’t budge. Instead, she nudged her head against Xia Jing’s chest, making it clear she wasn’t someone to mess with.
At first, Xia Ling was a bit taken aback by Jiang Hanhang’s sudden bravery. What caused this silly girl to act so bold?
However, after that nudge, Jiang Hanhang quickly realized she was in for a surprise, as Xia Ling firmly clamped down on her mischievous little head.
“Want to play? Keep it up, I dare you…”
Saying this, Xia Ling sought her own form of revenge, using her free hand to tickle Jiang Hanhang instead, causing a delightful exchange of antics between the two.
In the driver’s seat, Zhao Wei preferred to remain unbothered, smoothly maneuvering the car while giving the girls their space.
Jiang Kekai, witnessing her sister get bullied, had nothing to say—especially since it was Xia Ling doing the teasing. If Jiang Hanhang didn’t hold Xia Ling back, she’d have probably turned her sights on Jiang Kekai next.
Thus, Jiang Kekai regarded the scene with a seasoned indifference, snuggling Xia Yu and quietly enjoying the show as the two girls had their own fun.
On the other side, Xia Le, Lin Jie, and the others were going about their usual business, exiting the school gates with plans to test the waters—checking to see if anyone still lingered. If so, they certainly intended to fight back!
