Chapter 210: Obedient?
Because Xia Yu and Xia Ling were both injured, they obviously couldn’t go to school for a bit. Jiang Kekai, taking advantage of her position, called in sick on their behalf, thinking she could return whenever she liked.
What else could the school do? They had to comply, of course. After all, Jiang Kekai’s words weren’t up for discussion—they were an order. And so, Xia Yu, Xia Ling, Jiang Hanhang, and Jiang Kekai took a relaxing two-week break within the group, safely passing through Xia Yu’s dangerous period.
Of course, two weeks was just half a month. Xia Ling’s hand wouldn’t heal that quickly—the old saying goes, “It takes a hundred days to recover from fractures.” Thus, poor Xia Ling still had to wear her cast and couldn’t play Honor of Kings, making her day-to-day life very dull and painful.
But fortunately, Jiang Hanhang would occasionally bug her, seemingly trying to take back all the teasing from when Xia Ling was hurt. Xia Ling could only grit her teeth in frustration; Hanhang, you traitor!
Today was the day they headed back home. After all, Xia Yu had mostly recovered and wouldn’t be stuck in a tiny hospital room forever. Home was much comfier.
So, Jiang Hanhang, Jiang Kekai, Xia Yu, Xia Ling, and Wang Wenjuan all returned to the Xia family, finally getting comfortable beds to sleep in.
While Jiang Hanhang and Xia Ling looked happy, Jiang Kekai couldn’t hide her worry. This time, they had escaped, but she had no idea how grandfather would punish them upon their return.
That phrase “what’s done is done” echoed in her mind, and now Jiang Kekai could only hope that enough time had passed for her grandpa to cool down.
After much hesitation, Jiang Kekai made a decision and told her friends and Wang Wenjuan, “I’m going back to the Jiang family.”
“Really?”
Hearing her sister was going back to the Jiang family, Jiang Hanhang quickly wiped off her smile and started fretting. “Sis, you don’t have to go back that fast. Maybe grandpa hasn’t cooled down yet.”
Jiang Kekai shook her head, “This time, we got away in a hurry, leaving behind a lot of stuff. So, I’m not only going to give grandpa an explanation. I also need to retrieve those things.”
“Are you really going back?”
Jiang Hanhang seemed conflicted. “Yes.”
“If something happens and grandpa punishes us, at least you won’t be alone, right?” “Don’t get silly!”
Jiang Kekai gently tapped her sister’s head before continuing, “Stay here with Xia Ling instead. I’ll be fine, and if they try to keep me imprisoned again, I know how to escape. But having you along would complicate things.”
“Well… okay.”
Realizing she was seen as a liability, Jiang Hanhang didn’t protest further, reluctantly agreeing and then standing next to Xia Ling.
Wang Wenjuan knew Jiang Kekai and Jiang Hanhang had escaped, but hearing this, she was unsure what to say. Were rich girls really so resourceful?
Leaving wasn’t easy for anyone, especially Xia Yu. She feared Jiang Kekai wouldn’t return after her visit. Xia Yu’s feelings were transparent—her worried gaze said it all.
So, Jiang Kekai embraced Xia Yu warmly, whispering, “Don’t worry, Little Yu. I’ll be back soon.”
Seeing Jiang Kekai’s determination, Xia Yu could only nod, feeling choked but assured.
With one last kiss on Xia Yu’s cheek, Jiang Kekai left with a satisfied grin. She didn’t want Xia Yu to be sad.
In reality, this was a necessary decision. If she took Xia Yu to the Jiang family, Xia Yu would be in danger.
Stepping outside, Jiang Kekai’s smile vanished as she too felt the reluctance to leave alongside Xia Yu. She hailed a cab and returned to the Jiang family compound.
She noticed something odd—there were now twice as many security guards at the entrance.
“Oh…”
Seeing their genius young lady enter via taxi was quite a shock. Hadn’t they known their young master would use such humble means?
Swiftly, they opened the gates. Jiang Kekai glanced icily at the guards without a word.
Purposefully heading to her room, she gathered essentials for an extended stay. Just then, her door knocked—surprisingly quickly, word must have spread fast. “Young Miss, father wants to see you in his study.”
Though expecting it, she still felt a twinge of irritation at her servant’s insistence. “Got it.”
Jiang Kekai packed her belongings slowly and headed to the study. Meanwhile, she pondered how she’d explain fleeing the family with her sister.
She still felt deep affection for Xia Yu and fond memories of her grandfather’s kindness, who had even protected Xia Yu despite his betrayal. But she wanted to avoid angering this elder. So, she resolved to reconcile and continue being loyal.
Reaching the study, to her surprise, her father, Jiang Bin, was there too, suggesting her grandfather wanted company during this talk.
Indeed, as expected, Jiang Heng lashed out at Jiang Kekai the moment she sat down. “How dare you come back? Thinking you’re independent enough to fly solo? You brought Hanhang too? What if something happened?”
Jiang Kekai listened silently, refusing to argue. She knew grandpa would overreact.
Jiang Bin watched quietly, having come willingly to observe the scene.
“If I have my way,” Jiang Heng continued, “you might never leave the house again, or sent abroad. I’d rather not deal with that.”
Jiang Bin, fearing such drastic measures, was ready to speak up for his daughter.
The international branch was under Jiang Tao’s control, but he sensed his younger brother’s growing ambitions in China.
Jiang Kekai replied truthfully, “Hanhang will stay to help Xia Ling recover and continue her studies in Pengcheng, so we won’t return together.”
“Don’t be ridiculous! Do you have any idea how dangerous it is to linger in Pengcheng, knowing conflicts with the Lin family are unresolved?”
“I’m not afraid,” Jiang Kekai stated boldly.
“The Lin family is nothing. If we show fear, we’ll lose our status as the top demon city clan. Didn’t you instigate those initial conflicts?”
Jiang Heng bristled, unwilling to admit fault.
Seeing this, Jiang Kekai snapped, “Xia Yu’s family doesn’t matter, but they’re close enough to be sisters to me. Their issues aren’t your concern.”
“Don’t speak to your grandfather like that about a half-demon.”
Seeing conflict brewing between Jiang Heng and Jiang Kekai, Jiang Bin finally intervened. “Dad, Little Jing is right. The Xia family’s children are decent. Using derogatory terms about someone because of experiments is insensitive, especially if that’s Uncle’s doing.”
Placing blame on T doctor, Jiang Heng insisted the doc’s stubbornness led to the current situation.
