Chapter 7: Lolis Never Become Slaves
After lying down for a while, Night Lan finally got up from the sickbed.
She followed Bai Tu and the others out of the hospital room, only to realize that this didn’t seem like a hospital at all.
“Um… where is this place?”
Bai Tu was holding her hand.
It felt like she treated her like a little kid, worried that she might inexplicably wander off while walking down the street.
But this was Night Lan’s first time!
The first time holding a girl’s hand—it felt soft and a bit cold, and to top it off, she was a super pretty girl!
Being a lifelong singleton, Night Lan couldn’t help but turn red; she looked adorably cute with her flushed cheeks.
This was different from holding hands with Night Star. I mean, how could one possibly feel anything when holding their own hand?
Bai Tu noticed this and her originally plain expression softened considerably. Then she began her explanation.
“This is the Night Watcher Base, a special institution belonging to the country, specifically dealing with some unusual events.”
“Eh?” Night Lan gaped at Bai Tu with a look that screamed, “What are you talking about?”
Is this girl… suffering from a midlife crisis?
She suddenly seemed a lot cuter.
“Is it hard to understand? But that’s just the way it is.”
Once Night Lan sensed Bai Tu’s serious tone, she started to accept the situation gradually.
After all, everything she randomly blurted out before sleeping seemed to come true—like turning into two lolis and gaining super speed!
All these supernatural phenomena occurred.
With her high acceptance ability, Night Lan decided to roll with the Night Watcher’s story.
“Hmm… feels a bit unbelievable.”
“Do you need me to explain it further?”
“Please do.”
Bai Tu then slowly explained to Night Lan about the Night Watchers, the Stars, and the origins of the Star Eclipses.
Night Lan listened intently, cautiously asking questions when she didn’t understand, always getting Bai Tu’s thoughtful answers in return.
“When a Star goes out of control, does it create a Star Eclipse?”
“Exactly. Night Watchers can all go out of control, as the Stars and their holders are intricately connected. A holder’s state affects the state of their Star. However, if we notice the slightest signs, we can quickly intervene. After all, each Night Watcher gets checked at regular intervals.”
Night Lan was about half in the loop, understanding some but not fully grasping everything.
“Are Star Eclipses scary?”
“Depends on the situation. Some are easy to deal with, while others are not. For instance, when you were running around on the street without properly using your Star, in a sense, that was also a Star Eclipse.”
As she said this, Bai Tu looked at Night Lan like she was a naughty child, making Night Lan feel really embarrassed.
“But it’s okay; Star Eclipses can only be detected by Star Holders. You were only discovered after you fell, so thankfully it didn’t cause too much trouble.”
“Why is that?”
“There’s no reasonable explanation; it’s probably just that similar sources attract each other.”
“Hmm…”
Night Lan fell into thought, making adorable little noises.
Seeing her serious expression, Bai Tu asked, “So, Night Lan, let me ask you a question: Would you like to join the Night Watchers?”
“Sure… wait, join the Night Watchers?” Night Lan said, her eyes widening in surprise, stopping in her tracks.
Bai Tu halted as well, squatting down to look directly into her bright blue eyes.
“Only those who hold a Star are qualified to join the Night Watchers. Since you’re living alone, it’s really not safe. So I suggest you join the Night Watchers. At least you can live a more secure life. Of course, it’s just my suggestion; you can think it over.”
Night Lan went silent for a moment, then cautiously asked, “Is this work?”
Bai Tu thought for a moment and nodded, “You can think of it that way.”
“What’s the pay like?”
“Free meals and housing, and all the perks you’d expect. You’ll also receive a salary each month, and you won’t have to undertake any dangerous missions, given that you’re still so young. You probably won’t be allowed to participate in any Star Eclipses.”
“In that case, I want to join! I absolutely want to join!”
After hearing Bai Tu’s introduction, Night Lan’s eyes lit up, full of excitement.
Lolis never become slaves unless free meals and housing are involved!
Who would refuse such a “nice job” where you don’t have to work overtime and can fish for fun?
Being a Night Watcher sounds so cool!
Only a fool would decline.
“Glad to hear that.”
Watching Night Lan’s excitement, Bai Tu found her cuter than ever, her lips unconsciously curling into a slight smile, something she didn’t even notice.
Then she entrusted Night Lan to Cai Xun and Bu Jie.
“Cai Xun, Bu Jie, take her to register and write up a report for this ‘anomaly.’ I have to step out for a bit.”
“Alright, take care, Little Bai Tu!” Bu Jie grinned and waved.
Before Bai Tu left, she shot Bu Jie a look and then turned to leave.
Once she was gone, Cai Xun gasped, “Wow, Bu Jie, you dare to flirt with Bai Tu? You really have guts. Do you like her or something?”
Bu Jie shrugged, “I do like her, but it’s more like a brotherly concern for a junior. Plus, if I made a move, Boss Xiao would probably knock me into the next dimension. Besides, I prefer a little more meat on my Big Sisters; don’t you think those curvy girls are awesome?”
As he spoke, Bu Jie’s expression lit up with excitement.
Cai Xun wore a look of disdain, as if saying “this guy is hopeless,” and interrupted him with a hand.
“Dude, don’t share your weird preferences here. Are you trying to make everyone aware that you’re an old pervert? Besides, there’s a young little loli here; you’d better not corrupt her!”
Hearing this, Bu Jie suddenly realized that there was indeed a petite Night Lan nearby, making even him, whose skin was thicker than a wall, feel awkward.
Turning to look, he found Night Lan staring at him with a curious expression, seeming like she wanted to join the discussion.
“Keep going! Don’t mind me; Big Sisters are amazing! But I prefer cute little types!”
Bu Jie: “?”
Cai Xun: “?”
Cai Xun rubbed his chin, stooped down to gaze into Night Lan’s eyes, seemingly convinced she wasn’t joking.
“Didn’t expect someone your age to be so mature. When I was your age, I was still role-playing in armor with friends.”
Bu Jie perked up too.
“Ah, childhood preferences! It’s pretty common to like peers at your age. I totally get it; you like pretty boys, right? I totally understand!”
Night Lan shook her head in dissatisfaction.
“No way! I like cute little girls! Soft and fragrant—so comfy to hug!”
After all, she felt exactly that way when she hugged her other self.
Night Star was simply the ideal girl!
Too bad she was herself.
Cai Xun and Bu Jie both fell into silence.
A loli-loving loli, huh…
If Night Lan were a normal adult male, Cai Xun and Bu Jie would probably have already considered reporting him to the proper authorities.
But since she’s a loli…
A loli cuddling with a loli seemed pretty adorable!
In response, Cai Xun and Bu Jie gave each other a thumbs up with approval.
“Nice preference! Even we can relate to that enthusiasm.”
