Chapter 11 – So Devious!
Big trouble was on its way.
Just then, a thought suddenly rang in Cai Xun’s mind, seamlessly integrating into his subconscious.
“Leave the second floor.”
This thought seemed to urge him to leave this place, as though it were his own idea.
Following this, Cai Xun noticed that everyone around him had begun to move and leave the area.
In less than five minutes, the scene became incredibly deserted.
“Huh?”
The masked man standing on the stage let out a puzzled sound.
Because a moment ago, the same thought had appeared in his head too, but he hadn’t acted on it. He knew that wasn’t his true intention.
Now, this inexplicable mental suggestion had stolen away the audience he had attracted.
This made him a bit upset.
Cai Xun realized this was the effect of some Night Watcher’s Star, which was one of the top-tier in terms of brightness. It was very convenient for clearing the place.
One threatening figure after another arrived at the second floor.
All the other Night Watchers rushed over once they received signals from Cai Xun.
“Buddy Cai, you okay?”
Bu Jie saw Cai Xun looking a bit dispirited and immediately rushed over to prop him up.
“No big deal, just felt a bit dizzy. Be careful, that guy is weird.”
Shaking his head, Cai Xun warned his teammates.
All the Night Watchers who showed up became serious. They clearly didn’t dare underestimate the Star Eclipses happening here.
Although from the information sent from the base, the range covered by this Star Eclipses was only as small as Wan Yu Square, it didn’t mean the core of it would be easy to handle. Some bizarre abilities could instantly take down even highly skilled Night Watchers, no joking matter.
At that moment, the temperature around them noticeably dropped, layers of frost gradually forming on the ground of the stage. Finally, icy spikes burst out, piercing towards the masked man.
White Paint held an ice sword, gradually approaching with an extremely cold expression.
As the ice spikes almost touched the masked man, a voice suddenly resounded in everyone’s minds.
“Attacking people out of the blue is rude.”
No sooner had the words left when White Paint’s mind suddenly throbbed painfully. She dropped the ice sword, and the ice spikes on the stage also crumbled and vanished.
A gentlemanly man wearing a hat surprisingly stood beside the masked man, eyes sparkling with mystery.
This appearance shocked all the other Night Watchers around.
For this person was also a triggerer of Star Eclipses.
And he used Star Eclipses Power too!
“It’s the Tragic Shadow Theater!”
Some Night Watchers recognized them.
Cai Xun widened his eyes in surprise.
“How could it be them?”
He knew about it.
The Tragic Shadow Theater was a very dangerous group.
They were historically the first Star Eclipses organization to form a collective, always acting together. The complexities of mixed star eclipses were akin to those of a supernova.
But these guys seemed to have the same kind of thinking as humans, knowing when to run away if outmatched, and reappearing somewhere else next time they were ready.
Their overall obsession seemed to be putting on grand performances in each city.
If successful, it would cause massive trouble for ordinary folks in the surroundings.
Some people would laugh all day long, either forcing themselves to sleep or passing out on the spot.
Some would frequently mix things up, mistaking knives for food and cars for pets.
Others became so polite it bordered on illness; essentially impossible to communicate with, like loonies.
…
So they were absolutely considered the root of evil that needed to be removed by the Night Watchers!
The Night Watchers had come into contact with them many times and had compiled some data on their abilities, which was all revealed on the Night Watchers’ website.
Therefore, the Night Watchers on site quickly identified them.
“The masked man’s alias is Fraudster! His star eclipse effect might be concept removal or replacement; you need to realize it’s illogical to break its effect!”
“The guy with the hat is named Gentleman. His star eclipse effect makes everyone around him extremely polite; they can’t utter foul language or act rude, or they will suffer severe mental agony!”
“These details can only serve as references. There should be another Group Leader nearby whose power remains unknown. Stronger Night Watchers will be needed for back-up!”
Upon learning this, the surrounding Night Watchers’ expressions turned increasingly grim.
If it were just Fraudster, they could still use encirclement tactics to capture him.
Eventually, there would always be someone freeing others from the concept influence effect.
Fraudster wouldn’t be able to cover everything, and in the end, the Night Watchers would find an opportunity to seize him.
But now with Gentleman, it got different.
His ability prevented the surrounding Night Watchers from rashly attacking, or they’d suffer mental agony, losing combat ability.
They could only wait outside the range for a chance to strike remotely.
One Night Watcher stepped forward.
“Hello, gentlemen. Please forgive our intrusion, but your performance is causing distress to others. We Night Watchers must fulfill our duties to stop this. Might we invite you to come along with us? How about taking a moment to drink tea and chat, settling your concerns? What do you think?”
Using polite language in front of Gentleman would allow communication without punitive measures.
Smirking slightly, Gentleman pulled off his hat and shook his head.
“Sorry, friends, but we cannot go with you. Our performance brings joy, not pain. We apologize if it affects your work. We offer to compensate through an excellent show if that suffices.”
“No no no, gentlemen, apologies again. We have critical tasks. We cannot become your audience…”
While the experienced old Night Watcher pulled Gentleman, the other Night Watchers were already backing off, seeking the direction of the Group Leader for more accurate backup information coming their way.
Such cautious action was the right approach.
Blindly aggressive warriors often couldn’t do much in situations like these.
Even a foul-mouthed Night Watcher like Bu Jie was nearly ready to swear, retreating continuously while evacuating.
…
Meanwhile:
In a car.
A harmless-looking little loli watched an elder’s live stream, almost dozing off.
“Mmm… huh…”
Night Lan yawned, like a little kitten on the edge of sleep, her moist eyes struggling to stay open.
Then she sat up and shook her head, scattering her long hair before finally waking up.
“What a bore… Senior Zero Meow’s actions are so boring!”
How bored?
Night Lan saw nothing but Zero Meow wandering randomly, moving through crowds aimlessly, not seeing any sign of the star eclipse, nor encountering a single fellow Night Watcher!
Night Lan seriously suspected Zero Meow wasn’t a leader but a slack worker.
“What’s wrong with you again, tricking me? Too devious…”
After musing, Night Lan opened the car door, stretching her somewhat sore loli legs, then steadied herself firmly on the ground.
She decided.
Rather than watch another boring live stream, she’d rather go out and explore.
Night Lan resolved to enjoy a good stroll!
