Chapter 399: Runaway?
Jiang Kekai arrived at the chief doctor’s office door without hesitation and walked right in.
The doctor didn’t seem surprised seeing Jiang Kekai enter. She had been informed earlier that she would come to ask about the situation. No point in beating around the bush now.
Jiang Kekai got straight to the point. “How’s Xia Yu doing?”
“Oh,” the doctor adjusted his glasses, then gave a serious answer. “Rest assured, having a fever during her period is normal. There’s no need to worry too much. It’s just due to hormonal imbalance during her menstrual cycle. It should subside after her period ends.”
“But her temperature hit forty degrees. Isn’t that unusual?”
“It could be due to her body type. Honestly, I’ve never seen someone have such a severe fever during their period before. Was there any major surgery in her past?”
“Yes.”
Jiang Kekai confirmed confidently. After all, that was how she’d met Xia Yu initially. “When was it?”
“Perhaps it’s a side effect of the surgery. Just make sure she gets plenty of rest during her period—no strenuous exercise. Light activities like walking or yoga are fine. Also, keep warm and avoid getting chilled. In diet, avoid cold foods and don’t use cold water for her hair or bath.”
In the past, Jiang Kekai might find the doctor overly verbose, but now it was different; this mattered to Xia Yu. She listened carefully.
Previously, the doctor looked troubled because he hadn’t dealt with such a patient before.
Back in Xia Yu’s room, Jiang Kekai found Xiao Yu’s adorable little sister Jiang Hanhang poking Xia Yu’s rosy cheeks while Xia Yu slept from the fever… “You’re quite bored, huh?”
Hanhang froze in place awkwardly, then turned around nervously. “Sis, you’re back! Xia Yu has been sleeping well the whole time.”
Seeing Hanhang like that, Xia Ling couldn’t help but think of how she’d told Hanhang to stop playing but she just wouldn’t listen. Now look at her being caught in the act!
Fortunately for Hanhang, Jiang Kekai was preoccupied with Xia Yu’s condition and didn’t have the energy to deal with her now. “We’ll sort you out when Xia Yu gets better. Go away.”
“Okay.”
Hanhang quietly moved next to Xia Ling and whispered, “Xiao Ling, once Xia Yu gets better, our doom will come. Let’s run away together; where you go, I go.”
Xia Ling: “…You’re doomed, actually.”
“Do you really want me to perish this young and cute? You’ve changed, Xiao Ling.”
Hanhang entered actor mode again, acting as if Xia Ling had wronged her. Hugging Xia Ling’s arm, she pretended to weep. Xia Ling: “…”
Meanwhile, Jiang Kekai took Xia Yu’s temperature again using a thermometer. Only now did she breathe a sigh of relief knowing Xia Yu was really improving. She relayed the doctor’s advice to the two girls.
Hanhang sighed. “Who would’ve guessed Xia Yu’s fever was related to this? But it makes sense, since she became a girl through that method.”
Xia Ling nodded in agreement. “But will she get better or will this continue? Is there a way to fix it?”
“The doctor said each case is unique. We can only be more mindful when her period’s approaching.”
“Mm-hmm.”
With Xia Yu still sleeping, Jiang Kekai used her laptop to work silently. Xia Ling and Hanhang played games, making the atmosphere relatively peaceful.
Before long, Hanhang couldn’t resist interrupting Jiang Kekai. “Sis, I have a question I’ve wanted to ask.”
“What is it?”
Jiang Kekai glanced at her silly sister, but continued typing.
“Why do you work so hard every day? Aren’t you tired? Our family is rich enough. Even if we live until old age, there’ll be money left over. Plus, our big brother will inherit the business.”
“I just feel happier earning my own money. Do you really think our big brother can handle managing the Jiang family so well?”
Hanhang shook her head. “He’s our big brother, but he’s too playful.”
“Don’t you play too?”
Hanhang felt indignant. “It’s not the same! Because I play without stress. I don’t have to inherit the family business anyway.”
“But we were talking about the big brother.”
Jiang Kekai, trying to contain her laughter, nodded. “Go on.”
“If the big brother doesn’t make significant changes, he needs to marry a smart woman like you. Otherwise, it’ll be difficult.”
“Hmm, continue.”
Knowing her sister was buttering her up, Jiang Kekai didn’t mind. But Hanhang couldn’t continue. “Sis, look how much I praise you; the punishment will stay the same when Xia Yu wakes up.”
Hanhang: “…”
She awkwardly retreated to Xia Ling’s side and continued the persuasion. “Xiao Ling, do you have a favorite city? Let’s visit when we have the chance.”
