Chapter 432: Almost Full Marks
Last night, Xia Yu and Jiang Kekai had a blast, which made them both a bit drowsy the next morning and not in the mood to head to school.
Jiang Kekai, however, being a very disciplined kid, insisted they get up, go to school, and even managed to corral Xia Ling and Jiang Hanhang to do the same.
“Ahh~”
She yawned on the way, then leaned on Xia Ling again: “Xiao Ling, let me sleep a bit more, wake me up when we get to school.” Xia Ling seemed particularly tired, and Xia Yu was surprised by how exhausted she appeared. What were they up to last night? Xia Ling was also sleeping soundly against the window. Xia Yu wished she could nap so easily too.
Right then, Jiang Kekai, who had been hugging Xia Yu, spoke up: “Actually, Xiao Yu, I heard you guys finished an exam when you left school yesterday. Care to guess where you’d rank?”
“Oh?”
Xia Yu wasn’t sure; since the school term hadn’t seen any major tests, her progress in class had been noted, but not quantified.
“I think I did okay. Not sure if I got everything right, but there are a lot of smart kids at our school. I bet I can crack the top 20.”
This was high for Xia Yu. Before, she’d hovered around the fiftieth spot. The top 20 was quite impressive. Jiang Kekai knew Xia Yu’s potential, while Xia Yu did not.
“Such low confidence? You’re going to be my secretary one day. How’s that for low ambition?”
Jiang Kekai’s aspirations seemed big. Xia Yu didn’t know what to say, so she just lay in Jiang Kekai’s arms quietly.
The traffic wasn’t bad, and they quickly returned to the familiar school grounds. Xia Yu, Xia Ling, and Jiang Hanhang headed to Elementary School, while Jiang Kekai went to Junior High.
Initially, Xia Yu felt calm, knowing everyone has different knowledge levels, but now she wanted more.
“Can’t I improve enough through tutoring to move up with Xiao Yu?”
Xia Yu craved one or two close friends, and Jiang Kekai was already one of them, making her want to stick closer.
However, she wondered if Jiang Kekai would support this.
Meanwhile, Gao Xiaotian arrived late and challenged Xia Yu about today’s test results.
“Thought you weren’t in the mood for a competition?”
“Are you kidding me? My grades were never far behind yours. I’ve just studied harder recently.”
Xia Yu remained confident. She was ready to show off her new skills to Gao Xiaotian.
Gao Xiaotian thought Xia Yu’s confidence strange but brushed it off, figuring his own performance would overshadow hers.
“Let’s see your scores first.”
Class readings began, and Xia Yu found herself among her classmates as the top trio.
“Where will Xia Yu apply for secondary school then?”
“To the capital,” Xia Yu announced dreamily, hoping to study there with Jiang Kekai.
But Gao Xiaotian doubted Xia Yu’s resolve: “Given your grades, no decent school in the capital would accept you.”
Xia Yu ignored him and began scrolling through interesting news on her phone.
The reading bell rang, causing the class leaders to disperse quietly to fetch the test sheets.
“Xiao Yu!”
Gao Xiaotian gasped at Xia Yu’s scores:
Math: 100/100, Chinese: 99/100, English: 100/100, total: 299/300.
“Did the teachers make a mistake?”
Xia Yu felt a mix of triumph and mischief. If not for a slight deduction in Chinese, she would have scored perfectly. This was her moment to shine.
“Look, Xiao Yu—first place!”
