### Chapter 45: He’s So Baby Spicy!
“What are you doing?”
Night Star looked at Chi Hao’s actions with a puzzled expression, curiosity bubbling up inside.
Earlier, when she saw Chi Hao on the street, he seemed to be doing something similar—like a weirdo plastering little ads everywhere.
Chi Hao replied casually, “Just doing some minor preparations, you know, in case the situation worsens.”
“Oh.”
Totally baffled.
Could this little ad-like thing actually influence the big picture?
Then Chi Hao approached Mo Yu, squatting down to ask, “How about you, can you still move?”
Mo Yu managed to stand up with some effort.
“I’m okay, just need some treatment when I get back, then I can continue.”
“Good to hear! So, hang in there. I’m off to the next place. You all be careful!”
Chi Hao gave a casual commendation and turned to leave.
He seemed to have more important business to attend to, no time to linger here.
Night Star blinked and then said to Mo Yu, “Well, I’m off too, see ya~”
“Uh…”
Mo Yu watched the backs of the two retreating figures, feeling increasingly dejected.
Wait, are they really leaving him here all alone, injured?
At the very least, they should wait for a healer to arrive before they take off! What if some guy shows up to take advantage of him in the meantime?
Ugh!
Mo Yu sat down, feeling a slight ache in his heart.
Looks like in the end, he really had to rely on himself.
……
Night Star and Chi Hao went in different directions. After Chi Hao was far off, Eypar, who had been watching from above, quickly returned to Night Star’s side.
“That red-haired guy was awesome! Is he a Night Watcher? It felt like his fire could burn me to a crisp—so scary!”
Eypar had sensed a significant threat from the fire earlier; it could probably even obliterate her ghostly self.
Night Star was right; from now on, they needed to keep their distance from Night Watchers.
“Hmm…”
Night Star wasn’t really listening to Eypar. Instead, she was thinking about where the Puppet Master might be.
Shanghe City was so big! It was tough to find one person among all the towering buildings. Even if the person was walking down the street, it wouldn’t be easy to spot them.
“Hmm… I guess I should find a place with a good view?”
Night Star looked around and finally settled on the tall tower in the city center.
That seemed to be the highest building in Shanghe City. If she could see from up there, she’d definitely be able to spot a lot of things.
But the problem was that place was way too far from her.
She had no idea how long it would take to walk there.
And she couldn’t even hail a taxi right now—what a hassle.
“Should I run over? But what if I trip halfway? What if I’m picked up by those puppets and get sent off?”
Alright then.
Honestly, it was a bit naive to think she could just see people from the tower.
What if the Puppet Master was inside? A good view wouldn’t matter at all.
“Sigh… so tough.”
……
At the Night Watcher Base.
Night Lan came to see Mo Tu, looking dejected.
“Lianhua doesn’t know me, and I let her leave right under my nose. Am I useless or what?”
Mo Tu shot her a glance.
“Weren’t you the one who ran away?”
“Um… it was understandable! A whole bunch of people almost came swarming in! If I didn’t run, should I just stand there and wait to be caught?”
“Ah, right, right.”
Mo Tu didn’t spend much energy chatting with Night Lan but continued exploring a correct route using the star map.
Then, Night Lan brought Little Lian over to the three-dimensional map, looking at the futuristic gadget with some curiosity.
“I think Lianhua must have left home to find something. Maybe it’s the puppet in my hands. It seems like Little Lian is really important to her; even becoming a Star Eclipse, she didn’t forget it.”
“Sounds like an obsession.”
“So if I deliver her to Lianhua, will she regain her memory?”
“Or it might just get more complicated.”
As Mo Tu marked the star points red, he added, “If you just return the puppet without doing anything, that would be really foolish. Do something useful!”
“Um… it’s easier said than done. She wants me to be her puppet, and I don’t want to be controlled by a bunch of strings!”
“Why not be a little bold and try something you’re afraid to do? Maybe then you can touch the truth of this land.”
“Huh? Communicating with you is so difficult!”
“Not really,” Mo Tu smiled slightly, though the smile didn’t reach his eyes.
It seemed the Puppet Master had added some terrible elements to this stage, intensifying the assimilation of the Night Watchers.
Just like the butler Night Star encountered earlier—an eerie puppet with powerful mobility, unrestrained by the “model citizen” persona, constantly hunting down solitary Night Watchers to defeat and assimilate them.
At this rate, the Night Watchers might not last a week.
But thankfully, other Sunlight-level Night Watchers were already handling things.
Chi Hao had taken out a high-combat butler.
Yao Can also knocked out a villager wielding a machete.
As for the rest, who knows where they were.
Such a struggle.
It was tough for ordinary Night Watchers to make any difference.
In the end, it would all come down to the Sunlight Night Watchers to turn the tide.
A flood of information flashed through Mo Tu’s mind, constantly updating and replacing, waiting for some key result.
…
As time passed, the day drifted to a close.
A group of Night Watchers returned to the base, and it was evident that their numbers had significantly shrunk compared to the morning.
Night Star came back to Night Lan, embracing another version of herself tiredly, seemingly seeking comfort.
“Ugh~ I’m so tired…”
Night Star had rare luck meeting Lianhua today, but she let her slip away.
Later, she went to a nearby tall building to look out but didn’t even catch a glimpse of Lianhua’s shadow. She must have hidden away somewhere.
“Tomorrow, I should bring Little Lian with me… maybe I’ll be lucky enough to run into Lianhua again, and I can try letting her out!”
Night Star murmured, gearing up to head out with Night Lan for some food.
Just then, they bumped into Lan Feng Su Yu and Mo Yu walking together.
Lan Feng Su Yu seemed quite curious about Mo Yu’s condition.
He was wrapped up in plenty of bandages, looking like a walking mummy.
“Hey, hey, hey, Mo Yu! How did you end up like this? You look so pitiful. Did you get hit by a dump truck or something?”
Mo Yu couldn’t help but laugh at that, wincing as he touched his wounds.
“You have no idea! You have no clue what kind of creepy stuff I ran into! It was a super scary puppet—it was so baby spicy! It ambushed me! My gosh, it almost kicked my spine in half!”
“Really? Is it that exaggerated? I mean, didn’t you let your guard down for them to catch you?” Lan Feng Su Yu looked skeptical.
“Uh… cough cough, let’s not talk about that. By the way, why are you out on a mission? Aren’t you supposed to be babysitting that Black-Haired Loli at the base?”
Mo Yu, wanting to change the subject to avoid the awkwardness, quickly diverted the conversation.
This method actually worked pretty well, as Lan Feng Su Yu seemed to remember something, her face showing a mix of anger and frustration.
“Don’t mention it… it’s all because of a certain despicable guy who stole my little cutie!”
Lan Feng Su Yu sniffled.
“And little Night Lan—she’s been hanging out with her for so long, treating her to good food! Their bond should be really deep, but without any hesitation, she just ran off with someone else—it’s all that despicable bad guy’s fault!”
If Mo Tu were standing in front of Lan Feng Su Yu, she might not be able to resist throwing a punch.
So infuriating!
