Chapter 29: Recovery and Going to College Together
According to what Gan Yan Yu had previously mentioned, and with Lin Tian’s own speculations, we can conclude:
Although Grandpa Gan’s car accident happened just this week, his depression dates back to when he was in England. The main reason was the stress of being alone abroad, the conflict between his asthma and his dream of becoming a cellist, as well as the unfavorable situation he fell into due to classical music competitions.
These factors caused Gan Yan Yu’s health to start going downhill from then on. To put it simply, she was suffering from severe mental health issues that had turned physical. Loss of appetite, malnutrition, general weakness, and a significant drop in weight and immune system.
This physical manifestation was terrifying, slowly turning psychological illness into external symptoms.
After coming back home, Granpa’s accident coupled with his parents returning further exacerbated everything.
Her condition worsened, leading to an even more dire physical manifestation.
Just look at her—down from 80 pounds.
Gan Yan Yu’s mental state had nearly returned to normal, but her body still needed significant efforts for a full recovery.
“Exercise…?” Gan Yan Yu looked stunned.
“Yes!”
Lin Tian said, “Judging by your current situation, you won’t be able to go back to school by the time I take the college entrance exam!”
“The college entrance exam?”
“Yes! Are you telling me you want me to take it alone while you retake another year?”
Lin Tian said seriously, “We’re partners, remember? We’re taking the exam together!”
As soon as he mentioned this, Gan Yan Yu’s eyes widened, and her face went slightly red.
He had thought so far ahead.
For the first time, Gan Yan Yu felt the weight of the word ‘partner’ in such a tangible way from Lin Tian.
But,
While they were partners, Lin Tian was constantly working hard and taking action. He even made a quick call to get the recording equipment. Meanwhile, she, burdened with injuries, was now the most helpless one.
“Do we have to go to the same university?” Gan Yan Yu whispered.
Lin Tian hadn’t expected the girl to brood over this. Yet, an answer quickly came to him.
“Of course! Isn’t that obvious?”
Lin Tian walked up, placing his hands on her shoulders and said, “We’re not only targeting the same place; we should aim for the same university!”
“Think about it, you agreed to make videos with me. If we aren’t in the same city, how could we record and meet fans easily?”
“And you know, you’re unreliable! Without me around, who knows if you’ll jump off a building or something? I need to keep you nearby to feel secure.”
Lin Tian spouted all of this confidently and logically.
Even Gan Yan Yu, who had been sulking just moments ago, had almost started laughing.
“You could always find someone else to play the cello,” Gan Yan Yu said, trying to stifle a small laugh.
“No way, I’m hooked on your cello-playing. No one else will do,”
“Alright.”
“So.”
Lin Tian pressed her shoulders again, “From today, treat your body right, okay?”
“I would do that anyway,” Gan Yan Yu replied, detaching herself from him with a touch of stubbornness yet gentleness.
“Good.” Lin Tian smiled, “Starting tomorrow, follow my plan. I’ll join you in exercising to help you recover in a month so you can return to school.”
Actually, Lin Tian’s talk about the college entrance exam wasn’t just fluff. Time was flying, and they didn’t have much left.
Lin Tian’s studies ranked high in school, but for Gan Yan Yu to keep up…
But,
In her attributes list, the cello was merely A+. Her learning ability, however, reached S level, showing just how powerful her mental acumen was.
Lin Tian could trust her completely.
If Gan Yan Yu got back on track quickly and returned to school, she could definitely catch up academically!
“No,” Gan Yan Yu said.
“What no?”
“A month is too long, half a month is enough.”
“You sure?”
“When I was in middle school, I used to work out with grandpa. I know a thing or two about making good plans.”
“Fair enough, so what do I do?”
At this, Gan Yan Yu fell silent. When Lin Tian looked at her perplexedly, she showed a slight bashful expression.
“Can you promise to cook regularly for me?”
“Gan Yan Yu played with her hair, winding it round and round her fingers.
“Your food is delicious.”
Before the recording equipment arrived, they started their recovery plan during their weekend.
Now living by herself in Granpa’s house, every morning Gan Yan Yu would knock on Lin Tian’s door and hand him a bagged breakfast, urging him to go on a jog with her. For Lin Tian, it felt quite refreshing—like he was living like newlyweds.
After running in the morning, Lin Tian would make lunch for them, enticing Gan Yan Yu to join him.
To ensure her recovery, Lin Tian took lessons on nutrition on Douyin and carefully studied ingredients and dishes scientifically.
Vegetarian dishes consisted of tomatoes, carrots, and mushrooms; meat dishes included chicken breast, shrimp, and organ meats, with a pot of wolfberry soup and millet congee.
He called it ten full tonics!
So nutritious that it practically oozed vitality!
After dinner, after some relaxation, they moved on to phase two of their exercise routine: a nightly run followed by advanced training using community equipment.
Gan Yan Yu’s perseverance surpassed Lin Tian’s imagination. Even a man couldn’t withstand the strain, but she still pushed on.
Naturally, the result was pain and suffering:
“Pain…”
The next day.
Gan Yan Yu lay motionless on the couch at Lin Tian’s house.
“How painful…”
She moaned pitifully. The invincible Gan Yan Yu had finally met her match.
Lin Tian approached and looked at her deadpan, feeling helpless.
“Where does it hurt?”
“Legs, back, arms, b*tt…”
“What, isn’t it everywhere then?”
“Legs hurt the most…”
“Don’t tell me your plan works like this? Are you still doing it today?”
Lin Tian’s voice dripped with sarcasm as he spoke.
Gan Yan Yu stretched out her hand to grab a pillow and cover her head like she found a hole to hide in.
“Sorry”
Indeed, Lin Tian did have a few tricks up his sleeve in terms of exercising. Men living on their own eventually explore fitness or at least research it.
One crucial point: After exercise, it’s best to manually relax the strained areas; otherwise, the next day will be agonizingly rewarding.
But, maybe he could assist Gan Yan Yu in relaxing.
Suddenly, he realized he had a hidden talent he hadn’t exploited—a master-level massage.
“Miss Gan Yan Yu,”
“What is it?”
“Take off your pants.”
