Chapter 56: The Reason for Singing
After wandering for a while, someone finally couldn’t resist and approached.
“Hi there! Are you the Blank Songstress?”
“Yeah…” The Blank Songstress tilted her head and nodded at the two excited young men in front of her, “Yup, that’s me.”
Upon confirmation, these two men became even more ecstatic.
“I knew it! Look, Caigou, I told you she was the Songstress! Although she’s not as fancy-dancy as on stage, there’s no way I’d ever mix her up!”
“For frick’s sake, don’t call me that in front of others! And when did I say she wasn’t the Blank Songstress? I’m not so blind that I can’t recognize daily attire!”
Seeing these two, the Night Lan behind them was slightly taken aback.
“Sure enough, they’re here too?”
Cai Xun and Bu Jie.
Four years younger, but not much had changed about their personalities. They weren’t much different from how Night Lan remembered them from back then.
In their future, they were Qing Liao’s fans. Now, they were Blank’s.
If not for the effects of the supernova star eclipses, they might have just been fans of the two of them alone.
Bu Jie looked like he was ready to burst, full of admiration for the Blank Songstress.
“Blank Songstress! I’ve been your loyal fan for ten years! I’ve listened to each one of your songs! Heard you’re joining the Night Watchers? That would be an honor to work alongside you!”
Cai Xun patted Bu Jie’s shoulder with a look of exasperation.
“Dude, that’s kind of embarrassing. Can we please calm down a bit?”
At this moment, a tall figure stepped forward, blocking Blank Songstress.
When Cai Xun and Bu Jie looked up, they realized there was another familiar man here.
“Ba-Bai Yuan Captain, what are you doing here?” Bu Jie chuckled.
Bai Yuan raised an eyebrow, grabbed the back collars of Cai Xun and Bu Jie, and dragged them aside.
“Humiliated much? Move along now!”
“N-no, Captain, I didn’t do anything wrong! It’s all because of those fools!” Cai Xun protested innocently.
“You’re pushing all the blame onto teammates; you better prepare for a scolding.”
Blank Songstress giggled at this.
“Fascinating fans. Guess the Night Watchers aren’t immune to being starstruck either. Working with them should be rather interesting.”
Blank Songstress moved with Night Lan and White Paint to sit down, waiting for Bai Yuan to reprimand Cai Xun and Bu Jie.
Night Lan sneaked a glance at Blank’s face and asked, “Uh, why do you want to join the Night Watchers?”
“Hmm?” Blank Songstress paused, then responded, “Mostly because I have these stars inside me. One day, a Night Watcher approached me, saying I had a rare power that might cause chaos. Joining them can prevent danger.”
“Just like that?”
“Well… there’s also the part where I want to give the stage to other songstresses. Right now, it’s just me, but there are many talented singers out there who also deserve recognition. If only I were famous, it’d be quite a waste.”
Being the world’s most famous Songstress, Blank often found herself with abundant resources she didn’t necessarily need.
Behind her were capital backers practically throwing resources her way, leveraging her to secure greater profits, essentially monopolizing the industry.
While training new Songstresses was also beneficial, why pass up on existing talent?
Blank enjoyed singing and loved listening to others sing too.
She didn’t want to be the sole voice out there. A world of diverse voices is beautiful.
Hence, by joining the Night Watchers, she could step back from the limelight, giving others a chance to shine too.
Even if she stopped being a Songstress, she’d still continue singing.
Her goal was to make her name and voice memorable.
With her achievement solidified, she decided to take a well-deserved break—a life less forgotten.
From childhood, she always felt overlooked, her presence unremarked upon. Only her voice could catch anyone’s attention.
To her, true support came from remembering her as a person, not just praising her voice.
Because of that, Night Lan’s earlier words resonated with her greatly.
Blank Songstress drifted off.
Just then, Night Lan’s voice snapped her back.
“Oh… I support your decision. But, would you mind signing my autograph?”
“I’m intrigued—how do you do that?”
“Ah, sorry I didn’t bring anything to write with. How about a picture instead!”
“Sure! No problem.”
Night Lan pulled White Paint in with a smile.
“White Paint, join us!”
“Um… really needed?”
“Come on!”
White Paint melted in the face of Night Lan’s cuteness campaign and nodded.
She actually wasn’t much of a fan of Songstresses.
But with Night Lan involved, she felt fine.
Together, Night Lan, Blank, White Paint took a photo. It looked incredibly loving.
Night Lan checked the result, pleased with it.
“Ah, great memory. I’ll treasure it forever.”
White Paint asked, “Can I have a copy too? I want to keep it.”
“Sure thing!”
Blank Songstress smiled, looking at two little lolis sharing the picture, relishing in the mundane life, feeling this pace suited her perfectly. A soothing folksong would fit right in.
A moment later, Bai Yuan walked back, having presumably finished disciplining the young Night Watchers.
Night Lan saw Caigou and Bu Jie in the distance, looking glum.
They must’ve gotten a good talking-to.
Poor guys.
Good thing she—a little loli herself—didn’t have to endure this.
“Let’s go, Miss Blank. I’ll introduce you to our base leader.”
“Okay.”
Blank Songstress followed behind Bai Yuan. Night Lan watched her go, combining her understanding of the Songstress with the figure she knew.
Her last wish was for Night Star to never forget her.
If she prevented the Blank Songstress from becoming the Star Eclipse here, wouldn’t it mean she’d reappear four years later?
Having Blank and Qing Liao side by side would be thrilling.
Just what was going to happen to the Rising Sun Theater Group’s singer though?
