Chapter 7: Second Level Boss
==============================
The moment the last two Puppet Warriors disappeared, two beams of white light shot down vertically from the ceiling, enveloping Lin Nan and Fatty.
In just a second, they both felt refreshed and rejuvenated, with all their fatigue disappearing.
The waiter didn’t step onto the stage but rather announced from below the arena, “The second level is about to begin, please prepare yourselves.”
Fortunately, the Heavenly Sword Sect was considerate. At least after each level, they could restore to full status. It would be a nightmare if they had to proceed with just one life.
After witnessing Lin Nan personally slay the Puppet Warriors, Fatty dared not to underestimate her in the slightest.
However, reflecting on the days they had spent together practicing sword intent, why was it that in such a critical moment, Lin Nan could single-handedly slaughter four opponents, while he was like a turtle with its head tucked in, knowing only how to dodge, having no way to deal with the enemies?
He wasn’t willing to accept that.
At this point, the attention of the audience mainly focused on Lin Nan, making him seem like nothing more than an optional background character.
He had set his heart on becoming a master-level sword immortal. How could he back down at this point?
If the upcoming enemies were still Puppet Warriors, he was sure he wouldn’t fear them anymore.
Unfortunately, Fatty’s hope was dashed.
Just after the waiter’s words, a vague shadow appeared in front of the two.
When the shadow materialized, the onlookers all exchanged baffled glances. None of them expected the boss of the second level of the S-class test to be a somewhat disheveled swordsman.
The man wore a bamboo hat, shabby rain cape, tattered straw shoes. Even his long sword was wrapped in rags and casually stuck in his pants. The overall impression was that of a sword-wielding fisherman.
“Who’s this guy?” the audience muttered.
“Never seen him before.”
“That’s strange. Any shadow that can appear on the training platform of the Heavenly Sword Sect shouldn’t be some unknown person.”
In the live streaming room.
Cold Little Rain was also curious, “Strong Brother, have you ever seen this person?”
Strong Brother, with a dog head on his head, shook it slightly. “No, I haven’t. I’ve checked a lot of data, and this person has never appeared in others’ tests.”
“The cooler the swordsman, the more casual their attire, haha, they’re in for a real challenge.”
“Reliable! Based on this swordsman’s aura, they’ll fail the second level for sure.”
“Please, please, let them lose! I’ve bet all my wealth on this. This level must not be won.”
The audience who bet on ‘passing one level’ all prayed earnestly, hoping the duo wouldn’t make it past this point.
Despite their confusion, the players didn’t know the identity of this swordsman.
A few NPCs, on the other hand, looked at him and frowned slightly, whispering amongst themselves.
“What’s going on in the training hall, how can this person appear on the stage?”
“Senior Monk, who is he? I’ve never seen him.”
“Hush, this man is a renegade of the Heavenly Sword Sect, exiled twenty years ago and never seen again.”
“But how…”
“It must be a recorded projection from before the betrayal. Since his power matches the difficulty of the second round of the S-class test, he’s the random opponent.”
“Don’t talk anymore, it’s not good for the other disciples to hear.” An older disciple said severely.
Everyone shut up and looked silently at the stage.
It was unimaginable that they’d meet his projection twenty years later.
Even Luo Ying in the pavilion sitting area straightened up upon seeing him, filled with doubt.
That the two could survive the combined assault of four Puppet Warriors was unexpected.
But the next level was the projection of the former pride of the Heavenly Sword Sect, Fu Yetian. Although his strength was only one-tenth of the real Fu Yetian’s, it was still beyond the ordinary disciples.
Let alone two newcomers who hadn’t even entered the sect yet.
Isn’t the S-class difficulty set a little too high at the second level? The training hall had already released the projection of a former elite at this early stage, who knows what challenges would come next.
“Fatty…”
Fatty rarely heard Lin Nan take the initiative to call him. When he heard in on the stage, he was startled and responded quietly, “Sis…”
“This guy’s not simple. Stand back, I’ll deal with him.”
Upon hearing this, Fatty was immediately dissatisfied. Planning to bask in all the glory himself? That wouldn’t do. Fat Grandpa here was one of the main characters of the live stream. Content to be an insignificant side-character? No way!
But Fat Grandpa would agree on the surface first, assess the strength of this fisherman, and then jump in to claim the spotlight.
“Alright, alright, you go first, I’ll never snatch your monsters.”
[Warning: The second test will begin in 3, 2, 1…]
Before the system broadcast finished, the swordsman quickly drew his shiny long sword, rolled forward, and the sword, like a silver snake, emitted red sparks, its blade extending three meters instantly.
This was extraordinarily fast, lightning-fast.
If Lin Nan hadn’t focused her energy and been mentally prepared, she probably would’ve been taken down by the fisherman’s first strike and crashed to the floor immediately.
Seeing this, Luo Ying sighed softly.
Even if it was just a projection, its personality and fighting style were identical to the real person.
If Lin Nan didn’t have genuine skills, this level was bound to be perilous for her.
Facing Fu Yetian’s sudden attack, Lin Nan twisted her body and narrowly avoided the sudden strike.
Passive defense wasn’t her style.
In battles against Tiger and Wolf Demons, she had unconsciously formed her own fighting style.
As she descended, she exerted force with her feet, spinning like a top, her sword swirling into a whirlwind.
Fu Yetian was fast, but Lin Nan’s counterattack was even faster.
Facing his wind-like thrust, Fu Yetian didn’t hesitate at all, holding his sword horizontally in front of his chest.
A crisp sound of “tink tink tink” echoed as Lin Nan’s sword attack, like a mini tornado, was fully blocked by Fu Yetian.
With her landing, Lin Nan pressed on, each strike faster than the last, each one aimed for her opponent’s vital points.
Her sword technique had no wasted moves.
Or better yet, she had no real technique. In the presence of lv8 sword intent, the only purpose her sword had was to find the enemy’s weak spots.
Her moves may not have been pretty or graceful.
But only the Tiger and Wolf Demons who had fought her knew that, at the slightest oversight, her sword would pierce like a venomous dart towards their chest.
Even Fu Yetian could now feel the pressure Lin Nan brought.
Though he was just a projection, the pride and dignity of the original owner never changed.
Under Lin Nan’s continuous pressure, Fu Yetian suddenly leaped straight into the air.
“Flying Sword Technique!”
With a cry, Fu Yetian hovered in mid-air, and his sword became alive, not needing human control. Cold sword points aimed directly at Lin Nan, flying in from all angles.
Without human manipulation as a limitation, the flying sword could attack Lin Nan from any angle.
The agile flying sword was like a mosquito that could enter through any gap, producing a buzzing sound that made it impossible to locate.
Lin Nan found herself in disarray at first encounter.
“Zzzt” a few slight sounds were heard.
Those were the sounds of the flying sword slicing through Lin Nan’s flesh.
Though the cuts were not deep, they were bloody nonetheless.
A slash even ran from the side of her face, bl**d gushing down, making her appearance quite terrifying.
Seeing Lin Nan get injured, Fatty stood on the sidelines, this definitely didn’t fit his self-perception.
If Lin Nan died, neither would he survive.
Rather than just watching, it was better to help.
“Wowowow!”
Fatty, who had been turtle-like hugging the side, now drew his sword and threw it far up at Fu Yetian hovering in the air.
In terms of sword technique, Fatty was absolutely no match for Lin Nan, but in terms of arm strength, Fatty had quite the muscle.
Moreover, the precision of this throw was surprisingly accurate. If Fu Yetian didn’t dodge, the sword would certainly pierce him through.
The biggest taboo of controlling a flying sword is being interrupted mid-action.
Facing this incoming throw, Fu Yetian had to maneuver out of the way.
And at the moment his body shifted, the attack of the flying sword slightly loosened.
Seizing the moment, Fatty charged forward and tightly grabbed the handle of the flying sword.
“Good job, Fatty!”
At the same time, Lin Nan exerted both feet, and although her current skills might not compare to “Flowing Wind,” they were still effective enough.
A loud cry erupted as Lin Nan, who had been suppressed by the flying sword all this while, raised her sword high and lunged into the air towards Fu Yetian.
Fu Yetian naturally would not sit by and let himself be attacked, he merely shifted slightly in mid-air to dodge Lin Nan’s all-out strike.
After landing, Lin Nan seemed not to give up. She turned around and jumped again.
If not for the training hall limiting the projection’s range, Fu Yetian could have left the arena airspace, leaving Lin Nan unable to even touch his toes.
Fortunately, Fatty’s weight provided immense suppression for the flying sword. No matter how Fu Yetian controlled it, the flying sword was like in a slow-motion movie, flying slowly.
“Come on, Boss! Come on, Boss!”
“Boss, go up there and take them out, why dilly dallyin’?”
“Exactly, I’m getting anxious.”
“k*ll that fatty first, stop him from interfering all the time.”
“Maybe Boss is trying to wear them out. Don’t you notice? That player Lin Nan is already panting, unable to jump.”
“Most opponents appearing in the training hall are projections of NPCs in this world, they’re all smart. And this boss is from the second level, I don’t think we have any reason to worry.”
“All my 50 spirit coins are on the Boss, wah wah, he can’t lose.”
The live streaming room was flooded with b*llet comments cheering Fu Yetian on.
For the duo to last under the boss’s intense suppression for so long, players uniformly expressed, “You’ve bounced around for too long.”
It’s time you rested!
