### Chapter 3: The Monster Race Needs Inheritance Too

### Chapter 3: The Monster Race Needs Inheritance Too

==============================

Inside Cold Wind City.

After all the little demons from Tiger Wolf Cave went out, the fort felt eerily empty.

Though it was only early autumn, it had an air of desolation and chill.

Little Drill Wind and Old Drill Wind returned to their old jobs—Patrol Captains.

Each took charge of fifty little demons to patrol the city.

At this time, Old Drill Wind was on duty at the city gate.

“d*mn it, that little brat Little Drill Wind hasn’t taken his team out to patrol twice already.

I’m gonna tell Second Great King about it, but he just says Little Drill Wind has other ‘arrangements’ from her.

What kind of arrangement is that?

I told you all before, they’re definitely up to something!

But the Great King is always stuck in his meditation, sigh!

I’m left with no one to vent to about my grievances.

It’s just us honest folks, standing by the gate, too scared to budge!”

His little demon subordinates chuckled but didn’t take Old Drill Wind’s daily complaints to heart.

After several rounds of grievance meetings, the little demons’ awareness had indeed surprisingly improved a lot.

Still, ever since they transformed, they had been living in the forest for years; just being able to talk and communicate was an achievement!

Expressing their thoughts clearly was tough enough!

Not to mention reading and writing!

Inside a small room piled high with books within Cold Wind Cave.

“Second Great King, looking back, Great King’s decision to stop the grievance meetings was indeed a very wise one.”

Little Drill Wind rubbed his tiny, pea-sized eyes and couldn’t help but feel a bit contemplative.

Cold Moon leaned against the door with her arms crossed, a smirk on her lips, “Oh? What makes you say that?”

“It’s a long story.

I’ve thought about this for a while.

You see, most of our Monster Race comes from the mountains and forests. Even after transforming, while we may not have unfathomable strength, we’re definitely stronger than regular humans.

Let’s not forget, those tigers, leopards, and jackals— they could wipe out humans without breaking a sweat!”

Cold Moon nodded, “True. Go on.”

“Humans are so weak, yet how do they manage to produce so many powerful cultivation sects? Even Great Demons from our race wouldn’t dare cause trouble lightly in human territories.

Why is that?

On the starting line, we Monsters were supposed to be ahead of humans, yet somehow, they’ve zoomed past us.

The strength of just one sect’s experts can keep Chaos Forest in check, let alone the entire human forces.”

Little Drill Wind blurted out rapidly.

Cold Moon sighed, “Yeah, but why?”

In her heart, she already had an answer.

Yet hearing Little Drill Wind bring it up today, she couldn’t help but ponder this grand question.

“Because humans have inheritance,” Little Drill Wind stated decisively.

“Keep going!”

“Past experiences are accumulated and recorded through writing, so future generations don’t have to reinvent the wheel. They can deepen and refine their training based on the experiences of those before them.

And what about us Monsters?

Few of our Race get to inherit their parents’ techniques. Most of us are born in the wild and d*e in the wilderness, living our lives in obscurity.

Only a few get lucky and ascend to become Great Demons.

Yet most among them only stop there, stuck in the same level until they d*e.

No one to guide them!

They can only fumble through it, failing over and over, with absolutely no experience to draw from.

And so it goes,

The fate of the Monster Race is like being nailed to a stone pillar, unable to escape the plans of heaven.”

Cold Moon’s smile grew, “So your conclusion is…”

“The Monster Race must learn to read!” Little Drill Wind declared, “At first, I was quite resistant to the Great King’s orders, thinking grievance meetings seemed effective. Those little demons were all too eager to chant slogans.

But in the past few days, I’ve clearly noticed they’ve become complacent.

This may be because Cold Wind Cave hasn’t had any oppression since Cold Wind Old Demon passed away,

but it also highlights a serious issue.

After all, grievance meetings can’t be held every day, and those little demons can only share their personal experiences once.

Once you’ve heard it enough times, not only do others get tired of it, but you do too!

And the Great King said we need to unify our thoughts.

After stopping the grievance meetings, how do we unify?

This thought led me to connect it with the inheritance issue I mentioned earlier.

Only by learning to read can we record our thoughts and truly reflect our learning outcomes.

Stopping grievance meetings was to let us calm down and really think about what to do next.

Can we solve all problems with our existing methods?

If not, we’ll need to redesign and reevaluate.

I believe that’s the Great King’s true intention.”

Cold Moon nodded, “Indeed, you’ve locked yourself in your room the past few days and at least figured some things out. I’m quite touched.”

She walked over to the desk, casually flipping through a few yellowed books.

“Never knew you could read.”

Little Drill Wind scratched his bald head in embarrassment, “Uh, these books were dug up from the warehouse by yours truly. They must have been left behind by Cold Wind Old Demon after capturing past scholars.

So I flipped through these books looking for inspiration, thinking I might self-study. But then I found these characters look like scribbles—completely unintelligible!”

Cold Moon couldn’t help but stifle a laugh.

“Look at you, Little Drill Wind! Not knowing how to read yet you can come up with so much! Clearly, you’ve put in some effort.”

“Hehe, you flatter me, Second Great King. It’s mainly due to the Great King’s elevated mindset that I could grasp a bit.”

“Well, since you’re working so hard, starting today, I’ll teach you how to read,” Cold Moon stated.

Happiness hit Little Drill Wind like a freight train, leaving him momentarily speechless.

Is this… for real?

Is this really the constantly elusive Second Great King?

He must’ve misheard…

Thank you, Great King!

Had it not been for the Great King stopping him in time, he wouldn’t have bothered to ponder the deeper meanings hidden behind those orders. The Second Great King wouldn’t have been here to listen to his long monologue and acknowledge him.

In the end, all thanks go to the Great King!

Just when Little Drill Wind was in shock, Cold Moon had already plopped down beside him.

“Little Drill Wind, don’t get any funny ideas. I just want to test out how to teach reading on you.

If it goes well, maybe we can expand the reading class to everyone in our fort.”

Little Drill Wind nodded profusely, “Yes, Second Great King is indeed right, we should do this.”

……

Meanwhile, Lin Nan, lounging in her bedroom, had never felt this relaxed since stepping into the game world.

Tool Man No. 1 was doing time in the law enforcement hall as a male avatar, taking the hits for her.

And Tool Man No. 2, Wei Wenxuan, was out there in some remote wilderness, leveling up by bashing monsters.

She felt great not having to do anything herself while experience points kept rolling in.

Even though their stats weren’t high compared to known enemies, sheer numbers made up for it.

Plus, Wei Wenxuan showed no signs of fatigue. The only downside was the character card had an 8-hour cooldown every 12 hours. No wonder, even avatars need their beauty sleep, right?

But for some reason, Lin Nan felt a chill creeping up her back today, as if something was off.

She wondered if it was just the weather getting colder…

Time to put on some extra layers!
