Chapter 5: bl**d of All Spirits Formation (2)
For ten thousand years, over two hundred rulers have chosen to end their lives within the Underground Palace.
Among them, there were humans, monsters, and demons.
They took turns ruling the continent, but under the guidance of divine will, the empires they built ultimately crumbled into dust.
Every ruler was unable to escape the thirst for immortality.
As long as there is desire, one cannot escape the grip of the divine.
The temple, standing beneath the sea for millennia, remained almost intact, save for some wear at the surface entrance. The Underground Palace, nourished by endless bl**d, maintained its original appearance.
Countless sacrificial remains, including those of the two hundred rulers, became the self-repairing nutrients for the palace.
In its long, lonely watch, the palace absorbed the essences of countless living beings and gradually developed its own consciousness.
For the first five thousand years, it resembled a solitary child, hiding in a corner, silently watching batch after batch of living beings come to their doom.
No one could stop them.
Because divine will loomed above, and after every bl**d sacrifice, a hint of power lingered in the temple, fueling her gradual growth.
Time passed slowly; five more thousand years went by.
Finally, one day, she took on a human form and stepped out of the Underground Palace. After observing the appearances of many living beings, she crafted a body for herself and named it Frost North Snow.
And just as she was about to joyfully dance across the ocean,
The divine being discovered her presence and felt a threat.
A light beam shot down from the heavens, completely surrounding her. In one minute, she would be turned to ash.
But in the 59th second, the divine being retracted the beam.
Frost North Snow hovered in mid-air, drenched in cold sweat.
Because she had proposed an idea that tantalized the divine.
Instead of harvesting energy-poor mortals in waves,
Why not nurture them to be stronger, collecting them every four hundred years?
And she could serve as the Preacher,
Traveling the continent to impart the ways of cultivation to the three races.
Soon enough, the first four hundred years passed.
Battles erupted across the continent as the three races, empowered, waged war against one another, leading to the most devastating conflict in history.
Countless beings, far beyond the human norm, perished.
The soul power harvested within just a few days surpassed that of the past thousand years combined.
The divine being was pleased,
And Frost North Snow was allowed to continue existing.
But soon enough, she was stripped of her preacher title.
The divine did not trust Frost North Snow.
For the first time in their extremely long existence, the divine being witnessed lifeless matter take form; she was the consciousness born of the temple, knowing all that transpired within.
Keeping her around would only spell disaster.
However, Frost North Snow proved her worth once again.
The new preacher underestimated the intellect of the three races, and within a mere century, powerhouses arose that surpassed the divine’s expectations.
It was as though the three races had simultaneously acquired nuclear weapons,
No one dared strike first, fearing that the third race would take advantage.
In this delicate balance, more powerful beings emerged.
The preacher continuously tried to incite conflicts among the three races,
But they saw through the scheme.
One fateful day, the strongest among the three races banded together and killed the preacher.
The divine’s hopes were dashed,
And the divine being was furious, yet with their current power, they could not eliminate all those strong beings.
At this moment, Frost North Snow stepped forward.
She took a full two hundred years to first break the human race’s national unity. Amidst chaos and strife, humans could only know the Immortal Gate, forgetting their nations and embroiling themselves in internal conflicts.
Next, she shattered the monster race’s lineage, turning the creatures in the mountains into beings driven solely by instinct and slaughter, unaware of learning and inheritance.
Lastly, she shackled the demon race’s bloodline, permitting only a few nobles to cultivate martial arts, while the majority of demons sunk into mediocrity. The high-born, to maintain their status, relentlessly oppressed the commoners, ensuring they’d never stir up trouble.
Her actions unfolded like boiling frogs, and by the time the three races sensed something amiss, they found themselves helpless against their own power and wisdom.
They sought the instigator,
But all they knew was that every critical moment over the past two hundred years featured a mysterious woman, a dagger slicing the lifelines of the three races.
Once they found themselves deeply entrenched in worldly strife, the top powerhouses could no longer advance.
After their natural lifespans expired, the three races erupted into long-overdue wars.
This round of harvesting prompted the divine to spare Frost North Snow once again, even allowing her to operate under the directives of a new preacher.
Two to three thousand years flew by,
Old souls perished, newcomers became the old, returning to the soil.
Great changes unfolded, and the world shifted.
Five hundred years ago, weary Frost North Snow returned to the temple, no longer wishing to venture into the world; she sought to return to slumber until the end of all things.
But one day, a handsome young boy suddenly burst into the temple.
She sensed a kinship from him.
She woke up and followed him out of the temple.
Thus, in this world, a pair of perfect beings emerged, known as the Monster King and Monster Queen.
…
Just as Lin Nan put a stop to her murderous thoughts toward the male character,
A sudden flood of information surged into her mind, as if a dam had burst, hammering through like a freight train.
In just a couple of minutes, it felt like she had lived a thousand years.
When she regained her senses, she realized it was a memory of the former Frost North Snow, stored within the temple.
However, ever since Frost North Snow left with the Monster King, the memories had ceased.
Perhaps she left and never returned.
The temple had been waiting alone for its master, the soulless shell longing for reunion.
But where did that whisper in her head come from?
Lin Nan immediately recognized the issue.
She released her mental power, expanding her perception throughout the entire Underground Palace.
At that moment, it was as if she were a fish in water,
Freely roaming every corner of the palace.
Finally, beneath the sturdy stone foundation of the Ling You Palace, she found a little boy, stooped over, hugging his knees.
The closer she got, the more she felt an inexplicable bond.
Lin Nan quickly realized,
This guy was another fragment of consciousness birthed by the Underground Palace!
He awakened much later than she did, perhaps just two or three thousand years old, likely produced anew by the temple after Frost North Snow departed.
They could be called siblings, but they were, in reality, the same person.
Yet his earlier whisper clearly aimed to use her to slay the male character, burdening her with the sins of rebellion.
This little brat was so ruthless right out of the gate.
Perhaps sensing Lin Nan’s gaze,
He slowly lifted his head, the hatred in his eyes stark against the dark backdrop.
“I want to go out and play like you! Why won’t you let me leave!”
Lin Nan noticed a thick iron chain shackled to his ankle.
