Chapter 2: New Era (23)
==============================
For a solid ten seconds, Fu Yetian was absolutely glued to the spot.
During this thrilling pause, attacks poured in like a free buffet, and folks were throwing everything they had—bullets, flames, spears, and sharp arrows—as if they were made of candy.
But no matter how hard they tried, nothing could touch Fu Yetian, not even a hair. It was as if ordinary weapons couldn’t even scratch his glittery superhero suit. Everyone was left with their jaws on the floor.
“It’s my turn!”
As the binding spell came to a close, Fu Yetian smiled mischievously and waved his hand. Over fifty tiny flying swords shot out like a flock of angry birds, targeting the closest operatives, who didn’t look too happy about it.
“Hold the line! You must hold strong!” Nie Zhengchu shouted, pumping up his team like a motivational speaker at a sports event.
The local operatives from Ocean City showed some serious guts. Even in the face of certain doom, they fought back, unleashing a barrage of bullets and abilities, all to buy a few more precious seconds.
“Now this is interesting,” Fu Yetian said as he waved again, sending those little flying swords zooming overhead and directly into the backs of operatives from other cities, who were blissfully unaware.
“The more you struggle, the more I want to save you for last. Those who give up now? Well, they might as well just lie down and take a nap.”
“Chop chop!”
Before anyone could react, about thirty heads shot up into the sky, bl**d spraying like a gushing fountain.
Fu Yetian seemed to have completely overlooked the stupefied Lin Nan standing nearby. In his mind, the perfect climax of their battle had to occur between the two of them. Why finish off the appetizers when the main course is yet to come?
The flying swords continued their grim harvest among the crowd.
As operatives from outside Ocean City were dispatched en masse, Fu Yetian next turned his sights on the demon race.
In this life-or-d*ath moment, the choice was clear: resistance meant d*ath, and not resisting also meant d*ath. Fu Yetian was not about to leave any survivors.
Under Count Morris’s orders, the demons huddled together in a defensive formation. They had no shields, but they were focused like hawks on the swords flying toward them.
Individual demon warriors might not be pushovers, and their skills with cold weapons far outshined the humans and monster race, who relied too heavily on their cultivation.
A volley of arrows shot up to meet the flying swords.
To Fu Yetian’s surprise, a significant portion of the flying swords were knocked out of the air by the incoming arrows.
Those that managed to break through the defenses caused substantial damage, but thanks to the harpist’s music, the injured somehow clung onto life.
After a bloody exchange, the demons had only lost a handful of lives compared to the near-total annihilation of the operatives.
Clearly, there was a significant difference in both strength and integration between the two sides.
Fu Yetian was losing his patience and decided it was time to wrap things up.
Once he dealt with these pesky ants, he could fully immerse himself in the grand finale.
A glowing sword slashed through the air, effortlessly beheading more than a dozen demon warriors with a single motion.
In just ten seconds, over a hundred demon warriors fell behind Fu Yetian.
Any resistance now felt like trying to scratch an itch through a thick leather boot—completely ineffective.
Morris, the leading figure of the demon race, was too scared to utter a word under Fu Yetian’s overwhelming presence.
This… was not even in the same league. How to fight back?
“Just disappear!” Fu Yetian declared.
He had never truly intended to ally with the demon race. His conversation with Eric about peace was nothing more than a time-saving move. After all, why waste his strength on the demon race before they even stepped into the maze?
He had planned to find the right moment to wipe them out when it truly mattered.
But he never expected that opportunity would present itself so soon.
Even buried in the ground, he had heard clear as day about Eric’s surrender to the challengers.
He was never soft on traitors.
You’re being unjust? Fine—I’ll be the villain who wipes out former allies without a second thought.
Despair began to spread through the ranks of his army. Even top-tier demon warriors couldn’t fight the fear growing in their hearts.
“Whoosh…”
The defensive formation finally fell apart under Fu Yetian’s one-man assault.
More and more warriors abandoned their backs to the enemy and fell faster than before.
And suddenly, Adeline, who had been hiding in the rubble, dashed over to Morris’s side.
“What are you doing, you idiot! Get out of here!” Morris barked.
Adeline gazed at him with large, sad eyes. “You’re my master. If you’re dead, what reason do I have to live?”
Morris scrambled, “From now on, you’re free! Nobody can command you! Nobody!”
Adeline shook her head vigorously, “No, I won’t go.”
Fu Yetian sneered, “What a tragic pair of lovebirds! Let’s grant you a wish and let you d*e together, shall we?”
“Swish!”
His lightsaber suddenly elongated, aiming to skewer the two of them together.
Adeline, resigned, closed her eyes tightly, gripping Morris’s arm, who sighed deeply and pulled her into an embrace.
As the sword was about to pierce Morris’s back, the two steeled themselves for the end.
But just then, the sword halted mid-air, refusing to advance even an inch.
Adeline and Morris blinked in confusion, only to see Lin Nan standing before them. A white flame shot from her fingertips, piercing through Fu Yetian’s abdomen.
“Cough cough cough…”
bl**d sprayed out.
“How… how is this possible… I’m practically invincible, how could you…?”
Fu Yetian felt strength drain from his body. The area scorched by the white flame started turning to dust, swirling away into nothingness.
Lin Nan opened her left hand, revealing a shattered red gemstone.
“What is…?”
Fu Yetian gasped, “How on earth do you have one in your hand?”
Lin Nan said calmly, “This is your answer, your one true weakness.
The demon race placed these gemstones in the sewers based on your arrangement, and the bl**d pool fed them power, allowing Sky Island to finally rise.
But this gemstone, an essential node, was never included in your energy web.
Of course, this didn’t affect the overall birth of Sky Island; however, it left a gap in the bl**d-pool energy system.
When you consumed the bl**d pool, you gained its immense power while also incorporating the energy system supporting the entire Sky Island.
I crushed this gemstone just now and discovered the only flaw in your body caused by missing a key component in the energy system.
In other words, it’s your Achilles’ heel.
Ordinary weapons can’t breach your impregnable form, but my white flame can momentarily cut through your defenses and strike precisely at your weak point.”
“Whoa…”
Fu Yetian spat out more bl**d, feeling his power seeping away.
“Ha! If I d*e, Sky Island collapses, and they’ll all perish with it!”
Lin Nan coldly glared at him, “Thanks for the tip. Guess I’ll just have to break you first then.”
Fu Yetian, “…”
