Chapter 9: The Loneliness of a Ghost
Hei Yang dusted off his clothes and flashed a smile as bright as the sun.
“Mo Qianmeng, did you discover anything weird while you were here?”
Mo Qianmeng nodded淡淡地.
“Well, I ran into three strange people at the art museum today.”
“Oh really? Spill the beans!”
Hei Yang plopped onto a chair, wearing a childishly innocent smile that seemed to suggest this was the most interesting thing ever.
Mo Qianmeng had long gotten used to the fact that her 28-year-old senior acted like a kid.
“I sensed the presence of a Star Eclipse on someone.”
“Oh, and then what happened?”
“Just when I was about to get closer to ask, they bolted! One of the girls was fast, like, greater than Speed B fast, and I couldn’t catch up, not even time to use Star!”
Hearing this, Hei Yang rubbed his chin, deep in thought.
“Did they take off as soon as you approached? Seems they sensed your Star aura. Maybe they figured out you’re a Night Watcher. They must be aware of their weirdness, including the Star Eclipse.”
After Hei Yang analyzed the situation, Mo Qianmeng asked, “Should we inform the other patrolling Night Watchers?”
“Of course! We need to get to the bottom of any anomalies involving Star Eclipses to prevent major incidents. It’s our duty as Night Watchers.”
After getting all serious, Hei Yang flashed his sunny smile again.
“Hey, Mo Qianmeng, after this is over, would you like to grab a drink with me? I’ll treat! Though since you’re not of legal age, how about some juice instead?”
Mo Qianmeng shot him a cold glare. “Drop dead, Hei Yang.”
“Ah, that stings!”
With that, Mo Qianmeng left.
The staff would notify all the patrolling Night Watchers of what she had discovered, so she could carry on with her day.
Hei Yang didn’t hold any grudge against Mo Qianmeng.
This cute junior was quite amusing, and he couldn’t help wanting to tease her.
But that was about all there was to it.
Hei Yang still had the principles of an adult; he was on the hunt for a mature Big Sister to marry, not some tender grass.
It was a bit embarrassing, really. Almost thirty and he had never been in a relationship. Talk about being in trouble in the wife-finding department!
Of course, this had a lot to do with his physique. Being stuck in a child’s body did leave him somewhat unsettled.
“Never mind, no rush. I’m dedicating my life to my country, how could I casually fall in love?”
Hei Yang comforted himself, maintaining a rather optimistic outlook.
Then he got lost in thought about the information Mo Qianmeng had just relayed.
“An individual carrying Star Eclipse aura, huh? Is it the Eclipse itself or an object contaminated with its aura? Things in Qi Yuan City are getting complicated!”
As the Sunlight Night Watcher of Qi Yuan City, Hei Yang was well-acquainted with the city’s current affairs.
Though everything seemed the same on the surface, a lot was brewing beneath, with many mysterious organizations starting to move.
These groups weren’t afraid of Night Watchers; they even dared to confront them, acting quite confident.
The forces backing them weren’t to be underestimated, potentially the core of the city’s economic lifeline.
Qi Yuan City’s operation was fragile, and losing even one component could lead to disaster.
Replanning the entire city required massive manpower and resources along with a lot of uncertainties.
So even if there was an issue with a certain company, as long as it stayed under wraps, the Night Watchers wouldn’t make a fuss.
“Looks like I’ve got my work cut out for me. One of the Research Institute’s top experimental subjects is missing, and now we might have some unexpected guests in Qi Yuan City. How annoying! I wonder what kind of chemical reactions these issues will stir up?”
With a sunny grin, Hei Yang cheerfully left the scene.
…..
As darkness fell.
In the early evening, Night Star and the others returned to the theater, buzzing with good vibes after a long day.
“Mmm~ Today was so much fun! Since there’s no plans for tomorrow, let’s just keep exploring other entertainment spots!”
Just then, a pigeon swooped down from above and landed on Night Star’s head.
“Gu, where are my fries?”
“Don’t worry! I won’t forget them!”
Night Star smiled and placed a box of fries on the chair.
Seeing this, Guqiu fluttered down from Night Star’s head and happily started munching on the fries.
Night Star knelt down, poking at Guqiu’s soft feathers.
“You’re so lucky. You just wait for your favorite food to arrive without any worries about someone harming you. A carefree life with no troubles. Sometimes, being a pigeon doesn’t sound too bad.”
“Gu gu gu~ I’m training to be a performance prop, you know?”
“Really? You’re such a trooper! Just keep it up; you’ll be a superstar with fries!”
“Gu! Got it!”
After distracting Guqiu, Night Star headed to the corner of the theater to pull out the blanket she’d just bought.
If all went well, she’d be sleeping on the ground in the theater tonight.
After all, Night Star had no identification and couldn’t stay in any hotels.
She had to buy things using Night Lan’s identity.
So sleeping in the theater was her only option.
Once she spread out her sleeping area, Night Star clapped her hands in satisfaction.
“Mmm, done!”
She planned to spend the night right here.
Although the atmosphere in the theater was quite eerie, potentially setting the stage for nightmares, Night Star was used to it and completely unbothered.
Everyone in the theater was nice; they wouldn’t disturb her sleep.
Quietness was a characteristic of the theater, which Night Star quite liked.
At that moment, Lianhua and Kong Yu Bai walked over, seeming like they wanted to say something.
“Um… Audience Performer, can I sleep with you?” Lianhua asked softly, her eyes full of hope.
Kong Yu Bai smiled gently and winked. “I was thinking, wouldn’t it be warmer if we all slept together?”
“Huh? Well… I guess so.”
Night Star didn’t refuse.
She was used to hugging something while sleeping; otherwise, it would mess with her sleep quality.
When Night Lan wasn’t around, she could cuddle Ghost Girl.
But now the Ghost Girl wasn’t here, so she had to make do!
Night Star had already shared a sleepover with Kong Yu Bai, but never with Lianhua.
It was something to look forward to—who would decline a cuddly, fragrant little Loli pillow?
“Time for sleep~ come snuggle into the blanket!”
Night Star was the first to dive into the blanket, her eyes twinkling with anticipation as she watched Lianhua and Kong Yu Bai.
Forget all the other nonsense for now; the most important thing was to get a good night’s sleep.
Meanwhile, in Yun Chang City.
Ghost Girl Eypar was waiting for Night Star to return home.
“When is Night Star coming back? She hasn’t really ditched me, has she?”
Eypar floated around the dark room, her silly hair bobbing as she continued to wait for Night Star’s return.
Unfortunately, she had no idea that the person she was waiting for was no longer in the city.
Who’s even bothered to care about this lonely ghost?
