Chapter 8: Return to the Old Place (1)
When countless rays of light from Emperor Bel suddenly connected to the players,
Lin Nan immediately understood his intention.
Under the Sky Tower, her conversation with the System was still vividly etched in her mind.
The believers of the lower gods stuck in the real world had specially used the gimmick of a virtual reality game to attract players to create a passage between Azure Star and the Asking Dao Continent.
The people from Azure Star possessed traits distinctly different from beings from other realms,
namely that almost everyone had the bloodline of lower gods; perhaps the ancestors who created humanity were once those very gods.
Every myth that has been passed down to this day supports the notion of divine creation.
So, it was no surprise that Bel had found out about the players’ latent identities. He wanted to leverage the players’ ability to traverse time and space, combined with the godly power obtained from the bl**d of All Spirits Formation, to transport the Mage Legion, himself included, to the world of the players.
The moment Lin Nan grasped this, she reacted faster than a rabbit on a sugar rush and, in an instant, entered Bel’s magic array with her companions.
While she couldn’t stop the teleportation from starting, she could certainly change the destination he aimed for.
…
Though it had been over two hundred years since the Ji Shen had parted ways with the Flowerless Palace, with no further association,
the fact that the gods would issue Divine Punishment every four hundred years undoubtedly left the newly appointed Ji Shen Master Bel feeling a thorn in his throat.
From the day he learned the truth, he was determined to resolve this matter.
Unlike the Great Palace Master’s approach, Bel was focused on how to avoid this endless cycle.
And then, when a bunch of players suddenly descended upon the continent, it felt like a window had opened right in front of Bel.
He had already prepared extensively for this moment.
For instance, he had sent Fu Yetian to Thousand Bird City to wreak havoc on the Floating City to obtain energy-gathering methods.
He also personally ventured to the East Sea Underground Palace to discover that Lu Nan Yu had mastered the arrangement methods of the bl**d of All Spirits Formation.
The Church of Light was his masterpiece.
As an emperor, he understood how crucial it was to control a team that would absolutely obey him both mentally and physically; religion was the perfect vehicle for this.
Thus, he had the foresight to establish the Church of Light, secretly using various administrative orders to assist in missionary work,
quickly gathering a large number of fervent believers for emergencies.
And all of this preparation came in handy at a critical moment.
If it weren’t for that d*mn Beast Legion attacking the Imperial Capital, he could have been even better prepared, bringing more subordinates along to another time and space.
In that case, he could have perfectly dodged the upcoming Divine Punishment.
With his skills, he could easily establish a new heaven and earth in another realm, why worry in the Asking Dao Continent, only to be wiped out by the furious gods?
But what he didn’t expect at all was that
just seconds before the teleportation was about to start, the Cold Moon Witch and her crew unexpectedly barreled into the magic array.
One of them was the treasonous Lady Rong Ji.
d*mn it, this traitor! He should have disposed of her long ago; keeping her around was clearly a disaster.
But since the magic array was about to activate, making a move now could jeopardize his years of planning.
Fine, he thought, he’d just settle things with her slowly in the new world after they’ve teleported.
A few short seconds flew by.
Those within the magic array were instantly enveloped by a blinding white light, leaving everyone unable to open their eyes.
As the radiance began to fade, they tentatively raised their heads, filled with a mix of thrill and trepidation, to carefully observe the new world they arrived in.
Beneath their feet lay a lush, dense forest; in the distance, vast farmlands and fish ponds greeted them, bringing forth a serene pastoral atmosphere.
“I did it! I succeeded!”
In that moment, Bel felt invincible.
The grand plan he had been crafting for years had finally seen the light of day, and that feeling was indeed empowering and immensely satisfying.
He scanned the surroundings and noticed that apart from the Mage Legion right beside him, there were no signs of the Cold Moon Witch or that traitor.
Could it be that, because they rushed in at the last minute, they hadn’t gained enough energy and thus hadn’t made it here?
What a perfect start!
With a powerful Mage Legion at his side, what was there to fear?
Bel promptly waved his hand, “Let’s move to the nearest biological gathering area. From today on, we are the new masters of this land!”
“Your Majesty is brilliant!”
“Truly magnificent, Your Majesty!”
“Long live, Your Majesty! Long live!”
The Mages couldn’t help but cheer joyfully.
Meanwhile, about a hundred kilometers away from Bel’s party,
Lin Nan and her group struggled to get to their feet, crashing down like meteors upon the ground; if not for their top-notch physical fitness, they might have been ripped apart by that force.
“Cough, cough…”
Even Lin Nan felt a bit sweet in her throat, a tightness in her chest, as if her entire body had been smashed and broken. God help them all.
This was probably the aftermath of rushing into the magic array and not siphoning enough power.
But thankfully, they had followed the Emperor’s footsteps and arrived here together.
Lin Nan lifted her head, spotting the iron city floating in the air not far away, and smiled slightly.
In the next second, the previously collapsing Lady Rong Ji suddenly sprang up like she was on caffeine, stammering with excitement, “That’s… that’s…!”
Lin Nan nodded, “Yes, we’re back.”
Lady Rong Ji broke down in tears.
She originally thought there was no hope left, but unexpectedly, that freshly reborn Floating City appeared right in front of her.
This made her profoundly kneel at Lin Nan’s feet, “Please, my lord, save him.”
Lin Nan cleared her throat, “Since we’re already here, let’s not rush.”
“Yes, I understand.”
She glanced at the giant pit they had made upon crashing down, while the distant sound of police sirens began to wail.
“Let’s find a place to recover our energy first.”
“Yes, my lord,” everyone replied in unison.
Indeed, just one second before the magic array was set to activate,
Lin Nan awakened the long-dormant System.
She knew very well that if Bel used the players’ teleportation power to arrive in the real world’s Azure Star, with the people’s strength, they likely wouldn’t be able to fend off the invasion from the magical realm.
So, she needed to intercept in the middle.
“System, can you adjust the crossing point to the modern Small World beneath the Sky Tower?”
【Of course, it’s just a few hundred people; it’s nothing difficult.
However, the order of the Small World must not be completely disrupted; if that happens, you may never return to the Asking Dao Continent.】
Thus the System replied.
“I understand.”
Lin Nan certainly wouldn’t let Bel have his way; she would do everything possible to deliver the punishment he deserved.
