Chapter 5: Transformation (3)
==============================
The Mage Legion, now collectively basking in the divine power, was not only stronger but also shockingly open to new ideas—who would have thought?
Through their TVs, they gradually came to realize that the little town they controlled was merely a backwater to the locals.
The sheer size of human cities far exceeded the imagination of the Demon Race folks.
Bel had toyed with the idea of heading straight to the nearest metropolis, Ocean City, but the pesky locals around the town were like flies buzzing around his head.
If they couldn’t be completely dealt with—or at least made to realize that opposing the Mage Legion was like smashing eggs against a rock—then even if they captured Ocean City, they were bound to face endless interruptions.
So, Bel resolved to use this opportunity to probe the limits of humanity.
Sure enough, in the dead of night, the first batch of so-called elite human assassins came swooping into the town like moths drawn to a flame, only to be swiftly discovered.
Aside from the leading woman, who posed a bit of a challenge, the rest were taken aback by a volley of spells raining down from above, and they all went down faster than a lead balloon.
Next, Soros took the woman hostage and demanded the enemies surrounding them withdraw within thirty minutes.
Just as expected, the enemy couldn’t resist taking a sneaky action.
This without a doubt gave them the perfect opportunity to retaliate and test the enemy’s strength.
Before Bel could make a move, the Mage Legion’s magic arrows inflicted heavy losses on the enemy. If those helicopters hadn’t tried to fly away in a panic, Bel wouldn’t have made his entrance so soon.
All in all, the battle was largely in favor of the Mage Legion, despite their smaller numbers.
Every single one of them packed firepower equivalent to at least a reinforced battalion, pouring out collective attacks—the question was, who could stand against that?
The tragic scenes of humanity were broadcasted via satellite to every corner of the world.
When conventional firepower couldn’t suppress the enemy, the use of nuclear weapons had to be put on the table, but that was undoubtedly a mutually destructive strategy—something to be avoided unless absolutely necessary. Even a temporary compromise with the enemy was preferable to gain more time to find a way to counter their abilities.
Unfortunately, it seemed the Mage Legion had no intention of giving humanity a chance to react.
They planned to eliminate all defenders and then set off towards Ocean City in the dead of night.
At this moment, the people in Ocean City glued to their TVs and computer screens were going into a panic.
“Help! Is it too late to escape?!”
“The Operations Bureau has completely collapsed! How can we have any hope? Waaaah!”
“Darn it! We finally had two years of peace, and now this!”
“Hey! The little brat who just insulted Bureau Director Lin should take a step outside now that they’re marching into the city—based on your track record, aren’t you about to kneel and worship the new rulers?”
“Haha, say something, you little cowards!”
Chaos engulfed Ocean City.
Thanks to their past experiences, many residents didn’t wait for the police to rally; instead, they hurriedly packed their families and drove out of town, aiming to escape before the Mage Legion arrived.
The roads were filled with cars, and the toll booths were jam-packed.
Honking horns and complaints filled the air.
“C’mon, we’re about to get wiped out, and you’re still charging tolls?! Is there any sympathy left?!”
“Yeah! Capitalizing on national disasters? Give us a break!”
“Let’s bust through the tolls! Everyone charge out—wasting time here means all of us are done for!”
With some incitement, the toll booths witnessed a desperate scene typical of apocalyptic films.
The Mage Legion was still some distance from Ocean City, but humanity was already in disarray. If the police hadn’t arrived in helicopters with guns blazing, the situation would have only worsened.
And just as the human barricades around the town were pushed to the brink,
when everyone had almost completely forgotten about the injured, fainted Bureau Director Lin,
an astonishing sight shocked not just the surviving onlookers but also nearly all the viewers still tuned in to the live broadcast.
After a few helicopters exploded, the once gloomy starry sky suddenly manifested an immense and majestic shadow.
It was like a gigantic projection showcasing gruesome scenes of countless monsters wreaking havoc on Earth.
Humans scurried and screamed as winged demons with horns swooped down from the sky, and even the children in women’s arms couldn’t escape the fate of being shot through the heart.
In the midst of nature’s devastation, with monsters running amok,
a pure white beam of light pierced through the night like a divine sword, shooting down from above.
A deity radiating soft light appeared on the bl**d-soaked land, while the demons, appearing as mere insects before the god, launched into a crazed assault.
But all their struggles were in vain.
Even before the deity struck, those demons touching the white light began to plummet.
In that instant, chants echoed, filling the minds of all witnesses like a melodic brainwashing.
Even Bel and his crew paused their attacks, dumbfounded as they gazed up at the cinematic spectacle unfolding in the sky.
No one knew what this unprecedented phenomenon on Earth represented.
One thing was clear, though: these rampaging demons were undoubtedly embodiments of the Mage Legion, but where was the god slaying demons?
Did they really have to wait until nearly everyone was dead or injured before the divine being showed up?
But just then,
the ethereal image above suddenly morphed into a swirling vortex and plunged toward the ground.
The chanting not only persisted but grew louder.
At the same time, a flurry of white petals drifted from the sky, accompanied by a fragrant aroma, as if it were snowing in front of the camera.
The scene fell into silence,
as nearly everyone stared agape, completely baffled by what was happening.
They had no clue how it was possible to project such images across the sky—no country could manage that level of technology right now.
And don’t even get me started on that mind-bending chant.
Suddenly, the once-falling light intensified, shaking violently before stabbing into the ground like a giant spike.
As everyone focused their gazes,
a figure slowly emerged from the light screen. Her silhouette was graceful yet resolute, her face both cold and captivating.
In that moment, the surviving crowd could no longer contain their emotions, bursting into tears all at once.
“It’s the Director! It’s Bureau Director Lin!”
“Waaah, I knew she wouldn’t give up easily!”
