Chapter 8: Transformation (6)
==============================
“Ladies and gentlemen! The battle between Director Lin of the Special Operations Bureau and the Enemy Leader has reached a crucial turning point!
The television station has set up several high-definition cameras on-site, tracking Director Lin’s every move to ensure no detail is missed!”
Honestly, there’s no need for the host to explain.
Thanks to the TV broadcast, the audience can clearly see just how thrilling this duel between the two bosses is.
The more than ten fireballs were shattered one by one by a tornado barrier, resulting in a widespread explosion.
However, the snowflakes in the air have vanished, meaning Director Lin can no longer use them as a shield against the enemy’s ranged magical attacks.
As expected, the next wave of attack not only included various giant fireballs, but also an ominous dark cloud containing electricity that seemed to have appeared out of nowhere.
Lightning slashed through the skies incessantly, and Lin Nan found herself dodging left and right with little success. Up to this point, she hadn’t even unleashed a single threatening move against the Enemy Leader.
The audience’s anxiety was palpable.
Even though it was late at night, Ocean City was lit up like a Christmas tree, and the big screen in front of the shopping plaza was broadcasting the life-and-d*ath duel that could decide the fate of the city.
Worried spectators clenched their fists nervously, gazing up at the screen showing Lin Nan in a tough spot.
“How can that boss be so strong? This is ridiculous!”
“When one of those fireballs hits the ground, it creates a massive crater! It’s more powerful than a cruise missile!”
“Good thing it’s Director Lin; who else could possibly contend with this?”
“Ugh, I didn’t expect Director Lin would still have such a tough time after awakening. This shows just how strong the enemy really is.”
“What if she loses? What are we supposed to do then?”
Pessimism swept over the crowd.
It’s understandable; ever since the two began fighting, Lin Nan had been on the receiving end of a beating from Bel.
Especially since her ability to cast skills relied on the snowflakes that were evaporated into thin air by Bel’s high-temperature fireballs, leaving Lin Nan feeling helpless and quite flustered.
Now, all she could do was rely on her agile movements to dodge those fireballs that seemed to be equipped with tracking systems.
“Whoosh whoosh whoosh!”
Fireballs zoomed by her, the scorching heat causing even her stray hair to curl slightly.
Suddenly, Lin Nan realized that ever since she entered this body, she was still wearing the original black uniform of the operations bureau and wielding the high-energy pistol the previous owner was accustomed to.
While she had previously defeated Fu Yetian in this state, it was clear that Bel, having received the blessing of divine power, was on a completely different level.
Thus, if she didn’t reveal her ultimate form soon, she could forget about defeating Bel.
“Boom!”
With a crack of thunder and lightning, a mournful bolt shot down from the sky.
This time, Lin Nan seemed too exhausted to dodge, and the thick lightning enveloped her.
“Ahhhh!”
Upon seeing this, the audience gasped in unison.
“No way, no way!”
“Director Lin, please don’t scare us!”
“Ahhh, how could this happen? This must be fake!”
Whispers of worry filled the city.
By this point, it was clear that the danger posed by this inter-dimensional invader was akin to a nuclear bomb; one misstep, and these ordinary folks could find themselves obliterated by enemy magic.
So as their last hope, Director Lin, who initially seemed to hold her ground, was now faced with an increasingly stronger onslaught from the enemy.
Now she had been struck directly by lightning… How much longer could she possibly hold out?
Cameras on-site zoomed in on the region where Lin was hit by the lightning, resembling a spectacular fireworks display gone wrong.
As the explosive light faded, her figure was nowhere to be found in the sky.
At this moment, even the cameramen were in a panic.
Several cameras frantically searched around, attempting to find Lin Nan still standing in the air.
But it was all in vain.
In the yellow glow emanating from Bel, the entire small town was laid bare; it seemed Lin Nan really had been completely burned to ashes by that bolt of lightning, scattered by the winds.
“No! This can’t be!”
Cheng Qiu, witnessing this scene, nearly fell over herself.
Despite her unwillingness to accept it, the reality was right before her.
Cheng Qiu could no longer contain her emotions, tears streaming down her face uncontrollably.
Nie Zhengchu, clutching his injured arm, stared blankly up at the sky. He seemed unwilling to accept such an outcome and kept searching desperately in the air for any sign of Lin Nan, hoping for a hint of the director’s presence.
The entire Ocean City seemed to fall into an endless silence at this moment.
People’s spirits sank; they felt the bleakness of the future creeping in.
Were they really destined to submit to these inter-dimensional invaders just to sparingly save their lives?
If it were just an ordinary invading force, they might still muster the courage to pick up arms and fight back.
But facing an enemy who could easily wipe out a city just by casually wiggling a finger, how could they ever find the courage to challenge such a vast disparity?
The clash between the Mage Corp and the bl**d Moon Team came to an unexpected halt.
Lady Rong Ji, who had once placed her complete confidence in the Cold Moon, was now hesitant.
She had never expected Bel to be this powerful. Not only was the Cold Moon Witch unable to take him down, but she had also been utterly overwhelmed by the summoned lightning.
Could this really be happening?
Lilith’s expression turned grave as she looked up at the sky, “How could he be so much stronger than before?”
She then turned to Xi, “My lord, please allow me to pull her into subspace. Regardless of whether we can win or not, at least it can buy us some time.”
Xi shook her head, “No need to worry. Our lord is fine.”
Lilith’s eyes went wide, “But she clearly has already been…”
The other members of the bl**d Moon Team fell silent, unable to explain the situation to Lilith at that moment.
After all, they were bound to their master like character summon cards, and if their master died, they would vanish completely as well.
Therefore, the fact that they were still okay meant their master was only pretending to have disappeared, not actually defeated by the enemy.
At this moment, the Mage Corp erupted into cheers.
“Long live your majesty!”
“Your majesty is wise and mighty, uniting the lands!”
They certainly weren’t going to miss out on such a golden opportunity to brown-nose.
Sure enough, as soon as the chants began, Bel seemed to have been injected with a stimulant, his golden aura shining even brighter.
“Our next target for conquest is Ocean City!”
“I will follow you to the d*ath, your majesty!”
“I will follow you to the d*ath, your majesty!”
In stark contrast to the jubilant Mage Corp, the surviving audience members were shrouded in a dismal silence, mirroring the despondent mood of viewers watching on their televisions.
No one knew how to face these inter-dimensional invaders who had treated Ocean City as their personal plaything.
Was the apocalypse really upon them?
And just then, a cold voice rang out.
“Think you can just take Ocean City? Did you get my permission first?!”
……
It’s been a while since I’ve done any PS work; thought I’d give it a go today.
Highly recommend the author’s new book, I’m Really Not the Mastermind. You can save it now and read it later when you have time. Thank you!
