Chapter 2: Eternity (2)
==============================
Nobody knew about Bureau Director Lin’s secret mission in the Floating City’s control center to change the energy source.
After all, the Floating City seemed to be running smoother than ever, and many who had just escaped the clutches of d*ath gathered there on the night the war ended, willing to pay a ridiculous toll to attend the first large-scale celebration parade in the city’s history.
The parade featured people holding up all sorts of banners amid a dazzling display of fireworks and lights.
They shouted slogans while waving glow sticks, making their way to the building where the Special Operations Bureau was stationed.
“Long live the Special Operations Bureau!”
“Long live the Special Operations Bureau!”
This spontaneous parade was a mashup of countless voices, all culminated in that one slogan, clearly illustrating their admiration and affection for Director Lin.
[Godhood Value +10]
[Godhood Value +10]
……
Tsk, tsk, tsk. She initially thought tagging along with Bel to this Small World was a terrible business decision. Little did she know she’d be raking in a vault-load of Godhood Value right here.
She almost didn’t want to leave and figured it might be better to stick around and fill her Godhood Value to the brim.
But Cold Moon knew that was unrealistic.
The longer she stayed, the higher the chance that the human aspect of Lin Nan would be lost forever.
She didn’t want to leave the Small World in a wreck; that was simply against her principles.
Using her power, she reserved the best hotel in the Floating City for the bl**d Moon Team and that cute couple. After all, it wouldn’t hurt to let them enjoy a few days of luxury.
As for her, she returned to Lin Nan’s office, the new headquarters building for the Special Operations Bureau, her first time back at the station.
Of course, at this point, she had switched back to the Special Operations Bureau uniform, but her appearance and figure still screamed Cold Moon Witch.
The guards had already seen her new look on the TV screens and, after recovering from their astonishment, promptly saluted and opened the doors.
Even long after she left, they were still in awe from their close encounter with such a breathtaking beauty.
Nobody expected the director would go through a metamorphosis as if she had just undergone cosmetic surgery, transforming right before their eyes.
In terms of both grace and beauty, she made even the hottest film stars pale in comparison.
Could this be the legendary ascension to immortality?
While the guards were still reeling from the shock, Cold Moon made her way to her new office.
As expected, it was bigger than her old one, complete with its own sleeping quarters for those late-night work sessions!
The office desk boasted the top-of-the-line computer setup, and Cold Moon, who hadn’t played with a mouse in what felt like forever, suddenly felt an itch to dive into some gaming.
Glancing at her empty desktop, devoid of anything but office software, she couldn’t help but click her tongue, “What a waste!”
No time to lose, it was game on!
To her delight, her two-year dormant League of Legends account was still alive and kicking. Talk about a cause for celebration!
So, amidst the cheers echoing outside, Cold Moon happily delved into the Rift to practice her skills.
At that moment, Lin Nan’s consciousness began to stir, as if another person was popping up in her mind, engaging Cold Moon in a conversation.
“Excuse me, Fairy, is this part of your daily training routine?”
“Of course! If there’s a day when you’re not battling in the Rift, you’ll feel like something’s missing from life.”
“If… if you leave me this time, will I return to my original self?”
Cold Moon paused, “……”
Her hands shook slightly as the ADC she was controlling managed to get first bl**d—thanks to poor positioning—at the hands of the opposing duo.
One look at the support revealed them to be from Zaun, and suddenly the chat was flooded with delightful greetings aimed at their elders.
After muting the chatter, Cold Moon pondered.
To quickly snag Bel, reverting to her true form might be necessary.
But it’s easier to go from humble beginnings to lavish lifestyles than to the other way around!
Lin Nan had gotten quite used to her current look and figure. Once she switched back, Lin Nan might not be ugly, but she’d just be an 8 out of 10, which was still a far cry from Cold Moon’s knockout status.
Could she handle such a drop?
Women probably struggle the most with that kind of change!
Cold Moon deliberated for a bit before saying, “In the pursuit of power, appearance is just a minor detail. You have great potential, so I wouldn’t mind leaving you this appearance, but I worry you might lose your composure, getting swept up in flattery about your looks, forgetting what truly got you sitting pretty as the Bureau Director.
There are plenty of beautiful women in the world, but there’s only one Bureau Director.”
As a rare genius, Lin Nan achieved her high position through sheer capability.
So with just a little nudge from Cold Moon, Lin Nan grasped her concern.
“You’re right, Fairy; that was quite thoughtless of me.
I’m just worried that if you leave this time and we encounter similar issues in the future, how will we handle them?”
Lin Nan understood well that this outsider’s arrival was not something she could influence, nor could she actively resist or evict it. In other words, she had to accept it.
But it was always Ocean City facing great crises when few could respond.
Cold Moon calmly stated, “I have a connection to Ocean City, and I also have one with you. I don’t want to see this place fall into ruin, that’s all.
As for the future, we’ll have to see how our fates entwine. I might sense something calling from here, or perhaps I won’t.
But before I leave this time, I can share a bit of the knowledge I picked up when I was studying the Dao.
Maybe someday, you’ll stand on your own.”
Lin Nan realized this was her golden opportunity and hurriedly expressed her gratitude, “Thank you, Fairy, for your recognition.”
“No need to thank me.”
With the existence of League of Legends and Dou Dizhu, she wouldn’t let it fall into the hands of interdimensional intruders.
After all, this realm depended on the Asking Dao Continent for its very existence. You never know what kind of ambitious characters like Bel might break through and show up here.
When that time comes, they would have to rely on the Small World’s inherent strength to fight back.
After all, the impending divine punishment looming over the Asking Dao Continent weighed heavily on her chest—who’s to say if they’d make it through?
Oh no! How could she be thinking about such nonsense while playing League of Legends?
That was just so unfocused!
Thus, Cold Moon sat in her office all night, drifting like a swimmer, and ultimately managed to climb her way from Silver I to Gold V.
Not too shabby, quite the overachievement!
The next morning, the agents arriving at work were surprised to hear the sound of Dou Dizhu music echoing down the hall.
They exchanged knowing smiles; their former director was back!
