Chapter 6: Unifying the Three Races (3)
==============================
Dark clouds hung thick over Sky Void City,
day or night, the entire place was perpetually shrouded in gloom and doom.
The standoff with the giants had dragged on for almost a month, leaving the city littered with bodies and the debris of war.
The Extermination of Immortals Guild had hunkered down in one corner of the city, surrounded by deep chasms reaching over twenty meters.
Only by being so well-hidden could they have survived this long amid such heavy enemy encirclement.
The last six hundred players remaining in the city had gathered here, with most either transformed into giants or turned into puppet Muscle Men controlled by them.
Like in Sky Sword City, most players who opted to enter the city eventually became part of the dirt; as time wore on, the last traces of their existence would vanish without a trace.
Originally, this was the season of bloom and growth,
yet around the Extermination of Immortals Guild, there loomed over three hundred giants of all shapes and sizes, with Muscle Men numbering in the thousands.
Dog Head Strong Brother squatted atop a towering earth wall, eyeing the giants across the chasm.
The enemy commander was still that bald man perched on a giant’s shoulder; once a human himself, he had fully defected to the giant side, vowing to completely crush the Extermination of Immortals Guild.
Truth be told, the guild was on the verge of collapse, not just from the giant attacks, but due to dwindling food supplies. They had been on rationing for a week now, with each person getting only two meals a day.
Even so, their food reserves seemed to vanish before their eyes.
In barely another week, they would be out, and just at that moment, the enemy had decided to launch an all-out assault, clearly dissatisfied with how long the Extermination of Immortals Guild had held out.
After all, the players who had survived this long, aside from a lucky few, all possessed skills that could make a difference on the battlefield.
The giants wanted to ramp up their puppet Muscle Men, and these players made for the perfect raw material.
Perhaps, this was one of the reasons for their total offensive.
“Master, this time we definitely can hold the line!”
Noticing Little Musashi standing gallantly beside him, Strong Brother scrambled to his feet.
Without the Demon-Slaying Squad’s assistance, the Extermination of Immortals Guild would have been wiped out by the first wave of giants, and they wouldn’t have survived this long.
Little Musashi nodded, “But this time, the enemy numbers are a bit overwhelming. If they swarm us, this chasm might not hold them back.”
Strong Brother fell silent,
he knew Little Musashi was just stating the obvious.
“Then… what should we do?”
Most of these giants stood two to three meters tall, with some even surpassing four meters.
Even if the chasm was over twenty meters deep, if they stacked up, the agile Muscle Men would serve as the vanguard, crashing into them first.
This would give the giants cover for their climb.
Once the giants managed to swarm over the chasm, the Extermination of Immortals Guild’s defense would be as good as nonexistent and would crumble.
“Do I look like someone who would sit back and do nothing? I’ve discovered a tunnel leading into the city!”
Strong Brother’s forehead broke a cold sweat.
Everyone knew Little Musashi had a terrible sense of direction; her “tunnel” better not just be someone’s basement!
After pondering for a moment, he decided to give her the benefit of the doubt.
“Why don’t I send two people ahead to scout it out first?”
“No need.”
Little Musashi confidently waved her hand, “Let’s just the two of us go. Leave the defensive command to Li Xiaocong.”
“Uh… okay.”
Maybe Little Musashi was onto something this time.
Fortunately, the enemy didn’t attack right away; they congregated around the chasm, seemingly waiting for the final command.
Taking advantage of this lull, Little Musashi took Dog Head and headed for the supposedly discovered tunnel in the corner.
On the way, Strong Brother finally caught up with Li Xiaocong and temporarily handed over the defense command to him.
By this time, the entire Extermination of Immortals Guild was mobilized, with everyone performing their duties, tensely awaiting the enemy’s offense.
Facing the enemy’s impending attack, they knew that for the humans remaining in Sky Void City, this could very well be their last stand—life or d*ath, all in this one battle.
The Demon-Slaying Squad, led by Jing Feng for the time being, along with Cold Little Rain, Si Yan, and others, climbed atop the city walls, grimly staring down the enemy.
Even though they found it puzzling that Little Musashi and Strong Brother had left the group to search for some tunnel,
in reality, in such large-scale group combat, adding or subtracting one person wouldn’t shift the balance of the battlefield, so they treated Little Musashi’s stubborn act as an insignificant possibility.
“Master, are you really sure about this?”
In a dim corner of the castle, Strong Brother frowned at the narrow crack in the ground, barely half a human’s width.
Little Musashi smirked, “What, don’t you believe in master’s intuition?”
“No, no, no, that’s not what I mean, but look—this is just an ordinary ground crack! It’s probably only a few meters deep at best.”
Strong Brother wasn’t sure if this remark pushed a button for Little Musashi.
She retorted, “Then if that’s the case, you can head back. I’ll go alone.”
Dog Head, “…”
Why did this conversation give him vibes of a classic misunderstanding?
Hey, she’s your master!
At this point, Little Musashi was evidently too stubborn to back out.
He could only pray that the enemy wouldn’t launch an attack anytime soon, at least giving them a chance to rethink their decision.
“Well, wherever you go, I go! No hesitation,” he declared.
“Ha, suit yourself.”
His master must be upset.
Strong Brother drooped his head and followed Little Musashi down to the crack, only to see her suddenly spring up, her twin blades slicing through the air to significantly widen the entrance of the crack.
Then, without so much as a glance at Strong Brother, she jumped right in.
With no choice left, Dog Head had no option but to follow her into the dark cave.
“Master, how are you so sure this tunnel leads where you want to go?”
Strong Brother couldn’t help but ask.
Little Musashi patted her fitted samurai outfit and replied coldly, “Intuition.”
Strong Brother was speechless.
What the heck is “intuition”? Right when it mattered, they were leaving their comrades behind, and surely they’d be mistaken for deserters!
But at this point, he could only grit his teeth and follow Little Musashi.
Initially, he thought this winding tunnel was just a crack between underground rocks leading to a dead end, but twenty minutes later, they were still winding down with no sign of an end in sight.
Could it be… Little Musashi’s intuition was on point?
Actually, until now, the Extermination of Immortals Guild hadn’t stepped foot even once into what was once the Sky Void Sword Sect.
Privately, people said these giants were the lapdogs of the Sky Void Sword Sect, and that the Sword Sect itself was the real culprit.
So if this tunnel truly led to the Sky Void Sword Sect’s stronghold, it wouldn’t be a bad strategy to disrupt the enemy from within.
