Chapter 1: Uniting the Three Races (8)
The small world atop the mushroom umbrella was in chaos, flipping upside down and falling apart in all directions.
In this critical moment, Xi could only desperately cling to Lin Nan, while the other three members of the Cold Moon Team plummeted alongside the debris, completely beyond his help.
He and Lin Nan were in the same boat; he had intended to escape the overturned umbrella, hovering in mid-air to avoid d*ath.
But lo and behold, a monstrous wave appeared above them, completely blocking off any area he could have possibly moved to. Xi had never felt such despair.
“Boom! Boom!”
In the distance, the ground sounded like it was erupting with the echoes of countless objects hitting the ground.
Were they really all going to d*e in this bizarre place?
Just as he grappled with despair, a searing pain suddenly struck his cheek like a slap.
“Whew…”
It felt as though he had just surfaced from drowning; he gasped for air in large gulps. Not only did the sensation of weightlessness vanish, but he was also lying on a soft patch of grass, with deep trenches dug on both sides of him from where he had clawed at the ground.
As he suddenly felt throbbing pain at his fingertips, bl**d trickled down from his fingers.
“Master!”
After a moment of being dazed, he quickly realized that Lin Nan’s fate was still uncertain.
He forced himself to rise, only to see three identical boys encircling his master from behind.
Xi immediately breathed a sigh of relief and plopped back down onto the ground with a thud.
Who would have thought that the three avatars of the Monster King would show up just in time to rescue them?
On the other side, the injured members of the bl**d Moon Team, Yun, Fan, and Ji, lay flat on the soft grass, their chests slowly rising and falling, appearing to be in no danger.
“Sis, sis? Wake up, please!” Silly Shiyuan cried, teetering on the brink of tears.
Evil Shiyuan scratched his ear and replied, “She’s still out cold, yelling won’t help. By the way, that kid dared to hug our sis; giving him a couple of good slaps is not too much, right?”
“Frost North Snow is the strongest among us, so she’ll take the biggest hit.”
Good Shiyuan remained as cool as a cucumber.
“What do we do to wake her up?” Silly Shiyuan urged.
Good Shiyuan shrugged, “It probably depends on her willpower. All we can do is get rid of all the mushrooms around here so they stop releasing those mind-bending spores.”
While they were chatting, Xi had already stood up and rushed to the highest point nearby.
Since earlier, he had heard intermittent sounds of battle, which struck him as exceedingly strange.
When Xi climbed the small hill and looked down, an utterly shocking scene unfolded before his eyes.
They were in the center garden of Sky Void City, situated at a higher elevation, allowing him a clear view of the chaos around.
In the torn-up streets and square, humans were engaged in fierce battles.
Many seemed to have lost their rationality and sensation, continuing to attack relentlessly despite losing limbs or bleeding profusely.
The remaining few struggled to defend, but under overwhelming pressure, more and more fell, only to be dragged into the enemy ranks, becoming part of them.
The transformation was instant; in the blink of an eye, the captured’s eyes changed as they joined the ruthless group.
Xi soon spotted the Demon-Slaying Squad among those defending.
What baffled him was that the squad, led by Little Musashi, should have been able to take down these street thugs in no time if they unleashed their full power.
Yet, their weapons remained sheathed, relying solely on their fists and feet.
“What’s so surprising about that?” Good Shiyuan walked up beside Xi, laughing heartily. “These folks have been spore-drunk, with only their primal fighting instinct left. I can guarantee that what they think they’re seeing is not what’s actually happening.”
Xi was shocked. “Are the giants and Divine Clan I fought before all illusions?”
Good Shiyuan pointed to several humans lying on the hill. “Just them.”
“As long as someone is trapped in an illusory scene, their strength takes a nosedive. Frost North Snow nearly got beaten to d*ath by a few regular folks; I bet you didn’t see that coming. Haha! If we hadn’t wiped out all those mushrooms nearby, you guys would still be sucking in spores and knocked out at the crucial moment.
Once you think you’re dead in a confused state, you might never wake up again.”
Xi asked urgently, “Is my master alright?”
Good Shiyuan spread his hands, “Who knows? She might wake up any second, or she could be stuck in the dreamy world created by the spores forever, thinking she’s dead.”
Xi clenched his fists and glanced around.
The Dark Feather Crane hung limply from a big tree, its long neck drooping; it seemed to still be lost in the illusion.
d*mn it, did he have no choice but to sit and wait?
Good Shiyuan suggested, “Maybe you can help us.”
At that moment, Silly Shiyuan was like a madman, cutting off mushroom roots with his kn*fe, while Evil Shiyuan followed closely, shooting fire from his fingertips to burn the mycelium left in the ground.
Good Shiyuan pointed at the brawling crowd in the city, which bore no resemblance to celestial beings. “Lead these guys out of the city. Sky Void City has been completely overrun by mushrooms; there’s no point in it existing anymore. Those two are just wasting their efforts.
Only by exterminating all the mushrooms can these people, including Frost North Snow, possibly revive.”
Upon hearing this, Xi wasted no time and dashed into the crowd, his paper card becoming a sharp weapon tossed between the attackers and defenders alike.
Sure enough, with a third party in the mix, they all got distracted.
Following Xi’s lead, they fought while chasing after him.
…
In the fantasy world.
As the giants were about to break into the Extermination of Immortals Guild, a beast the size of a small mountain appeared before everyone’s eyes.
Flames spewed from its mouth like a waterfall, instantly consuming dozens of lives.
And its targets seemed completely random; it was as if it had come solely to create chaos.
Strong Brother immediately commanded everyone to retreat, trying to redirect the beast’s attention to the enemies, thereby relieving their own pressure.
But what they never expected was,
The beast suddenly plunged its sharp head into the ground, spinning like a power drill.
The entire ground shook violently; everyone was thrown around like a ship in a storm.
“d*mn it! This guy is trying to destroy everything!”
Strong Brother and Little Musashi exchanged glances; they finally realized they were high up in the air. If the umbrella collapsed, they would plummet into the abyss.
“Let’s all go, stop it!”
