Chapter 4: The Real Frost North Snow (3)
==============================
With the Female Emperor temporarily stumped, the timely arrival of the Nightmare Beast undoubtedly brought a glimmer of hope to the masses.
Everyone kept their eyes glued to the magic scrying mirror, hoping to catch even a hint of a chance that victory was within grasp.
“Come on! Let’s go!”
“Wah, I’m so nervous, I can’t even bear to look anymore.”
“We totally got this! Right?”
People encouraged each other, fueling one another’s spirits as if their cheers could somehow reach the warriors locked in battle with the celestial soldiers outside the Sky Tower, inspiring them to fight harder.
The Mage legion kept unleashing all sorts of debuffs on the enemy,
while the Harpist legion showered the warriors with every conceivable buff they could think of.
The battle grew fiercer by the moment,
with individuals occasionally plunging into the depths, never to resurface again.
However, this seemingly evenly matched spectacle took a dramatic turn when the Broad-eyed Heavenly King returned to the battlefield.
A massive umbrella reappeared overhead.
Its swirling motion created a tremendous suction that sent several weaker fighters tumbling, some even skewered by enemy swords as they lost their footing.
The Nightmare Beast dashed toward the Broad-eyed King, tail swishing, knocking aside all celestial soldiers that dared stand in its way as if they were mere toothpicks.
“Heh, still think you can use the same old tricks?”
The Broad-eyed King had never feared a beast!
He had merely been caught off guard earlier, losing a bit of ground.
With a flick of his wrist, the giant umbrella folded up like a baseball bat hung in the air, and he swung it down at the Nightmare Beast’s head.
Despite its size, the umbrella’s movements were lightning-fast.
The Nightmare Beast sensed the threat too late; it dodged its head just in time but got slammed hard on the shoulder, freezing its massive form as if struck by lightning.
The Nightmare Beast let out a woeful wail.
Even in this predicament, it refused to give up.
Opening its colossal mouth, it unleashed a long-stored flame toward the Broad-eyed King.
Calm as ever, he pulled out a small umbrella, spinning it effortlessly in front of him to diffuse the rock-melting fire completely.
Silence fell upon the battlefield.
Yes, the defenders seemed to hear the sounds of desperate heartbeats welling up from within them.
The next second, the umbrella whirred back into action, swinging at high speed toward the Nightmare Beast again.
The afterimages left in its wake stirred up countless splashes.
This time, the Nightmare Beast had no escape; its head was thumped like a punching bag twice in rapid succession.
Its gaze turned vacant, its mind buzzing with unbearable agony, a pain that swallowed its consciousness whole.
Before its mountain-like body collapsed,
it let out two loud cries in the direction where Lin Nan stood, as if reliving a flash of brilliance.
“Boom!”
The massive form crashed down into the water, sending wave after wave splashing around.
At the same time, it swept away the sparks of hope that had barely ignited in people’s hearts.
Why?
Why did her heart ache just a little?
Lin Nan stared blankly at the spot where the Nightmare Beast had fallen; its body glistened in the sunset, looking like a giant stone with edges kissed by gold.
The original owner must have been close to it.
And their bond was something special; even without any memories, she felt as if her heart was being sliced open, a powerful urge to weep brewing within her.
What to do now?
Was she really just going to stand by and watch as that lunatic wiped out her subjects?
“Sis, even if we three die here, we’ll still protect you!”
Silly Shiyuan soothed the woman in his arms, looking down at her.
At that moment, Lin Nan couldn’t care less about feeling bashful or awkward. They were floating in the air, and since she had zero magic skills, if she let go of this man, her end was imminent.
Evil Shiyuan abruptly pulled out his club, charging at the Broad-eyed King like a shooting star.
Good Shiyuan barely had time to stop him, realizing too late that this was a disaster waiting to happen.
Among the three Shiyuans, while Evil Shiyuan might not have been as strong as Good Shiyuan in overall power, he was undeniably ruthless and unstoppable.
“Clang!”
The Broad-eyed King easily swatted aside Evil Shiyuan’s full-force strike.
“I remember you three,” he said, a calm smile on his face. “Too bad you’re just pieces of one person, split into three.”
At this moment, Good Shiyuan lunged out, his iron staff twirling toward the enemy’s head like a roulette wheel.
He didn’t even need the Broad-eyed King to lift a finger; a mere gust of energy from above sent Good Shiyuan stumbling back several paces.
“You three, split into one, are nothing but chumps in my eyes, with zero threat at all.
I had intended to let you witness the end of this continent firsthand, after all, you once were the embodiments of gods, you deserve that privilege.
But now it seems you’re feeling particularly long-lived and are just asking for a death wish?”
A fearsome aura suddenly erupted from the Broad-eyed King, causing Evil and Good Shiyuan to stagger, almost losing control of their bodies to the giant umbrella hovering above them.
Yes, at this moment,
that force rippled out to the warriors of the Three Races led by the Great King of the Split Land.
They had come out to fight alongside the Nightmare Beast, fully aware they might not return.
The lesser powerful Cave Masters, demon armored warriors, and human Immortal Gate disciples were all engulfed in screams as the umbrella absorbed them, transforming them into a crimson rain that vanished into the air.
Evil and Good Shiyuan’s efforts against the Broad-eyed King were laughably futile.
Before long, the giant umbrella re-entered the trajectory of destruction, as if the Broad-eyed King planned to plunge it underground, feasting on every last shred of memory from living beings to boost his strength.
“Stop!”
Seizing the distraction of the fight between Good and Evil Shiyuan and the Broad-eyed King, Silly Shiyuan had intended to stealthily drag Lin Nan out of there.
However, Lin Nan suddenly exclaimed instinctively.
“Sis?”
Lin Nan, “…”
Just as Silly Shiyuan was about to whisk her away, every cell in her body seemed to resist this act of abandoning her subjects to save herself.
After calling out, she suddenly found the Broad-eyed King flashing right in front of her, his expression increasingly mocking.
Damn it!
She had wanted to run away, so why was her body acting on its own, responding differently from her will?
This was downright unscientific!
Or did her crossing over leave traces of the original owner’s vivid imprint on this body?
Ahh… just moments ago there was a chance to escape, and now look,
she was being targeted by this boss.
“Don’t worry; you’ll be next in line!”
With a mere flick of his finger, the giant umbrella began to descend at an alarming speed, like a mountain collapsing.
In no time, the screams filled the air.
Even with buffs boosting the Great King of the Split Land and his companions, they simply could not withstand the giant umbrella’s overwhelming suction.
As the blood-and-flesh-stained umbrella loomed ever closer overhead,
the Great King, Konglif, and Luo Ying felt like they were plummeting into an endless abyss, filled with despair.
